Title: "The Top Shelf" beware
Post by: flufh3d on May 10, 2013, 06:09 pm
I am fairly new to the forums but not to the road. Have amazing stats and been going almost 2 years. Beware buying anything from "The Top Shelf". His prices for what he's offering are too good to be true and he forces fe. That's screaming a scam.

I sent him a polite message and he responded back being a complete dick and telling me he didn't give a shit if I had 100 purchases, fe is fe.

Has anyone actually received anything from this person?

I should look at his account myself, but not logged in atm. Does he have any feedback at all? New vendor?
Title: Re: "The Top Shelf" beware
Post by: flufh3d on May 10, 2013, 06:19 pm
All his feedback I saw was "FE". He's claiming he has dank weed for 600/QP fe only lol.

Never had a vendor be so rude through a message. Looks like a fairly new account from what I remembered, just wanted to warn those here new to the game

Post by: DubstarRecords on May 10, 2013, 06:22 pm
Not seeing anything about him forcing FE.. in fact his profile clearly states he works in hedged escrow and has a 99.2% rating.

Ah.. I see the listing you're referring to now. Maybe he needs the cash quick and he trying to unload product, who knows. You know what they say about things being too good to be true.
Title: Re: "The Top Shelf" beware
Post by: flufh3d on May 10, 2013, 06:26 pm
Yeah he only forces fe on the one "too good to be true" listing. Just getting a bad bad vibe from his coms and the price/feel/etc.

I would be happy with a higher price to cover his hedge fee if he's worried about coins

Couldn't agree more. Got a -1 for this post but just posting this as more of an education to those that might be new and hope someone could come here and tell me I was wrong.

Best of luck all

I really hope he's legitimate, I literally just gave him all of the cash I have for a QP He looked too legitimate and I'd seen him on here for awhile, I didn't think twice. Now I'm really nervous because I ordered monday and nothing has arrived. I was like the 3rd person to finalize on that listing and there's like 20 now, I'll let you guys know if it shows up.

Shit man, I hope I'm wrong about him!

Let us know how it turns out. How long ago was it marked "in transit"? 20 FE on the same product and nobody has received??
Title: Re: "The Top Shelf" beware
Post by: Baboon311 on May 11, 2013, 06:35 pm
He marked it "in transit" almost immediately and said I needed to FE so I did. His profile says shipping could take up to 14 days so I'm not freaking out yet, but its been 5 days and most vendors don't take more than 3.

Lollllzzzz I wish I could +1 you for the horseback comment.

Ppl marking shit in transit immediately bothers me.  No vendor is refreshing their order page, getting one, packaging it up well, then rushing to the post office. Mark it in transit when its out of your hands.

I've been warning people to stay away from this vendor in The Top Shelf's official review thread. Screams of a scam and anyone who FEs for this immature kid is just donating their money to him.

I messaged him and asked him about that and asked him what his shipping times really were and he told me 3-4 days. I sure hope you get your product. I was going to order from him but wanted to track others to see if they got theirs before thinking about ordering from him

yeah I'm not sure what in the world would require 14 days, but I ordered some bud from Brutusk about a month ago and his took almost that long so I didn't think that was a red flag. the mail hasn't come yet today, I'm hoping it's going to be here ill definitely let you know as I have nothing to do today but worry about this.

edit: it didn't come today. really hope i didn't get scammed out of my entire weed fund

update: i asked if he could check on the dcn since he just said in his official review thread that he would. he said it was in my city and it should be here on monday, so we'll see! After reading that entire thread and receiving the quick response my confidence in TTS is much better.

What's REALLY unsettling about this is that he's in the 99%

BUT ALL his feedback first page is "FE" followed by some variation of "Can't wait to get the product".

The fuck?  I had him on my favorites, but once I saw FE and all the hopefuls...nope.

Sorry to break it to you, but you got screwed. I was tempted by his offerings the other day, but then I took a look at the thread that he or she had linked in his or her vendor profile. It quickly became clear that I should take my BTC elsewhere. Never FE. Not even once.

It doesnt look good really. I feel sorry for anyone who has put any money into his account, its a nightmare, having to wait for ages just to find out if you deffo have been scammed. I dont blame people tho, some times you just dont think because of using it all the time with genuine vendors you start to trust people.

People are right tho, staying in escrow is the only form of protection, you are reducing risk which is what you want to do if you want to save money and not get scammed.

But how did he get away with all the great feedback that put him in the top 6%?  All of which are "FE waiting to clear" or overly trusting "Hey, I FE'd and I would order 10 kilos from this nigga" type comments.

Does this mean feedback can be largely faked?

Yep...i got ripped as well. I was told the exact same story. Product should be there on Saturday...never showed up. I messaged him and he said Monday based on the DCN. I've been buying here for over a year and this is the first time i've been scammed. I've had sooooo many awesome vendors i started trusting everyone. I asked for a refund on Saturday which he obviously denied.

He told me my gram was traced to my post office on Saturday and that it would be delivered on Monday. Well today is Monday and I got another of my packages from someone else (an OZ) but not my gram from him. So, he either lied through his fucking teeth or they seized the gram and sent my OZ which is unlikely as fuck. Why does he have no listings did they ban him? Whats going on?

He scammed me for a 100$ moneypak. Bought moneypak to BTC from him Saturday, he informed me of a 48 hour processing time and here we are on monday, vendor page no where to be found and the scam is in full motion. It's not the end of the world but damn it still kind of hurts. My money is kind of tight at the moment and I was hoping to make a few extra bucks if bitcoin price rises by the time my rent is due. With bitcopia and bitflor's bank account closed I'm at a lost at how to buy quick anonymous bitcoins. I've heard good things about JumboMonkeyBiscuit but on his page it says he's only been a vendor for a month. Any of you guys can help me out? Where can I get quick annoymous bitcoins now a days and should I give JumboMonkeyBiscuit a try after just getting moneypak scammed by Top Shelf?

Answer: Yes and it needs to be addressed.

You can see how feedback score is calculated here:
http://dkn255hz262ypmii.onion/wiki/index.php?title=Feedback_Score

It is impossible to address this in any other way than the way that is already being done due to the way the Tor works. If a vendor creates false accounts and makes false purchases then those ratings count for very, very little as they have no other buyer activity linked to them, thus they have a very low buyer weight.

Furthermore, there would be no need for a discussion on 'more being done to prevent this' if buyers stopped Finalising Early. There NEEDS to be a modicum of personal responsibility here!
It is recommended EVERYWHERE that buyers do NOT Finalise Early!

It's even on the 'About' page (accessible by clicking "a few word from the Dread Pirate Roberts in the top right corner) that buyer's should be reading when they first join Silk Road:
http://silkroadvb5piz3r.onion/silkroad/about

Quote
Always use the escrow system! This can't be stressed enough. 99% of scams are from people who set up fake vendor accounts and ask buyers to pay them directly or release payment before their order arrives. This behavior should be reported immediately. If you do choose to do this, we will be completely unable to help you in the event of fraud.

The ONLY person at fault in a scam involving FE is the person that released their money from escrow before their product arrived. "Finalise" - by its very definition - infers finality.
To the Silk Road system, it means that you have received your order and are fully satisfied with its contents.

In short: STOP FINALISING EARLY!

Wow this really sucks. I'm a broke college student and I've been paying my rent by selling bud. My last order from wheels420 was held up so long and then cancelled because he went AWOL. I already had to get a loan from my friend to pay last time. Then I try this guy and he straight up takes my $700. Guess I'm living with my parents for awhile. Friend is going to be mad at me too because I can't pay him back yet. Thanks TTS you are a real stand-up guy. Asswipe.

actually it was my money, which got tied up in an order with wheels420 that never came. so I had no weed for a month. My friend wanted to try SR so I ordered for him through mrhumboldt and he let me borrow an oz of that because we thought my bud from wheels was coming. had to pay rent with that money and 1oz isnt enough profit to get more. then I finally get a refund from wheels and buy some from this dude. Now I owe my friend money for an oz and I have none. it wasn't more than I could lose a month ago, but I didn't anticipate not having any weed/profit for a month, so now I'm broke. but thanks for trying to make me look like a dick when this thread is about tts scamming, troll

Yep, I also FE'd for a 785 QP...He stated that it's expected to arrive tomorrow when I asked on Friday to check the DCN since I got paranoid after reading forum posts about him setting up a scam.

I'm glad Libertas posted here with info about his account being suspended. That's relieves the notion of mine that told me he already bailed out with the intention of taking the loot and running.

Now, once his account gets reinstated, is it possible to force him to give all our loot back if the packages never show? Considering he already told plenty of folks that it was in the post office and should be here TODAY, I assume that it's a definite scam that just happened. But, I think it's important to stay calm and give him the benefit of the doubt, considering this is the first time in 6 months of him being a Vendor that anyone has accused him of scamming. Something about the timing seems off, though. Why is he scamming RIGHT as people begin to accuse him of being a scammer? Oh wait, I remember, because it links with him being banned from Atlantis for selling Moneypack--->BTC.

Still, what can we do now besides wait?

Yeah, you're right. I'm not too shook up about it considering I agreed to FE. It's a relatively large loss, but hey - that's what I deserve for trusting over an anonymous online market. I still hope this all pans out. If not, it's an $800 lesson learned here - DO NOT FE!

Yeah this really sucks. I'll never again trust anyone I don't know very well to be a decent human being. But hey, maybe our economy will implode soon and all of the USD he converts those BTC to will be shit worthless. I hope to have as much weed as possible when that happens =p I have little to no expectations of getting any money back but hey, maybe SR will come through for us some how.
Title: Re: "The Top Shelf" beware

Baboon, my theory is that our packages are late because of Mothers day. It's possible that the DCN did say today, which is why he told many people it would be here today, but it didn't take into account all the traffic from Mothers day packages/gifts/letters being sent.

He told me MAYBE Monday, but definitely Tuesday TBH, so I still have a day before I can admit to being duped.

Again, this is just a theory...But I still have faith, considering he's been doing this whole FE thing for months now and no one has accused him of scamming until recently.

Again, why would he tell me Tuesday and not Monday if he was scamming? Seems a bit too elaborate. Even though, ya can't discredit the man for trying to go extra lengths to make himself seem credible if he really wanted to keep the illusion going for as long as possible. Lol, right now I'm pretty much trying to figure this out so I'm taking everything into account.

I was very close to buying from this guy, he seemed very legit and professional. To see it on the front page made it seem even more legit. FE didn't fly with me so I went with NCK(very good vendor btw).

My condolences go out to the many buyers who FE'd with Top Shelf. I've seen numerous amount of people stating they finalized early. It is just a shame.  :-\

Dude he told me it was at my post office on Saturday so there is no reason it shouldn't have been here today since I got my OZ I ordered from someone else. He lied and we are fucked. Mother's Day had nothing to do with this.

Yeah he told me on saturday that it was sitting in the post office. I even asked my mailman if I had a package and he said no. The dudes account is already gone, when you click on him it only lets you send message and the number next to his name is gone.

His account has been suspended due to an investigation of his behavior, according to forum moderator "Libertas."

That's why there is no number and after clicking on his name it brings us to messages.

Other than that, I dunno what to say.

His account is not gone, his vending privileges have been revoked whilst an investigation is done into reports of scamming. If it is found that he has not scammed anyone, his privileges will be reinstated, though that seems unlikely at this stage. Regardless, anyone that has FE'd will not be seeing their money again. An expensive lesson to learn, but an essential one. Do not leave the protection of the escrow system.

I FE'd on a Top Shelf QP as well, 800 gone for me. I put the whole Mother's Day thing in my head as well, but I was also told that the DCN said it was at the Post Office on Saturday and should be here today. I want to keep thinking that it will be here tomorrow, but I don't know that I have any faith left in this coming through. I couldn't afford this loss either, Baboon, but we only have ourselves to blame. Just take it to heart and never leave the safety of Escrow. This loss screws the pooch for me.

Thanks.

His prices and product weren't really attractive to me compared to other vendors. It sucks to hear he turned to be a scammer and that some of you guys got fucked on huge orders..

I have my dudes to buy weed from on here, but as much as I trust them they will come thru...when it comes to bitcoin or drugs, you can't trust anybody but yourself.

Many vendors want new buyers to fe. I haven't bought anything off the road should I avoid these type of vendors?

You should avoid Finalising Early at all! There are plenty of reputable vendors that accept new buyers and do not require FE. Once you leave the protection of the escrow system, there is nothing that Silk Road can do to help in the event that something goes wrong. Do your research about vendors on the forums, ensure you learn how to use PGP, maybe send them a message or two inquiring about their 'new buyer policies' (if it's not already stated on their profile page), and when you feel comfortable enough go ahead and place an order. But do NOT leave the safety of the escrow system until you have your order in your hands and are 100% satisfied with it! :)

Title: FE
Post by: Torigible on May 15, 2013, 07:59 am
Admittedly I'm new here. (Which should be obvious, as I'm posting in the newbie discussion) LOL

But, if I understand it correctly, the escrow system is designed to deliver half and half to the two participants, in the event of a dispute, correct? Or is it based on the number of complaints from buyers, which are weighted in some way based on their history?

That is, in the event of a FAILURE to FE, the buyer gets back half of their BTC, and the seller still receives half as well?

Or am I not understanding something here?

Hi Torigible,

Please read the Buyer's Guide and F.A.Q. on the SR Wiki, specifically:

Quote
How are resolutions decided

If you cannot agree on a resolution, a Silk Road admin with review your case and choose a fair resolution. The reviewer carefully weighs the evidence and statements provided and the relative reputations of the parties involved. If one party does not propose any resolution by the due date, the most recent resolution provided by the present party will always be chosen. In this case, any refund granted will not be counted for buyer refund statistics.

You should also take a look at the ordering process:
