Title: Hedge Fee Ripoff
Post by: Squirrel on May 10, 2013, 04:46 pm
The idea of the hedge fee loss when an order is cancelled should be looked at case by case.  I placed an order with a vendor who cancelled the order because he claims I did not properly encrypt my address.  This is not correct as I have not had one problem with 17 previous transactions and I know what I did.  There is no reason that he couldn't have messaged me to re-send the address instead of cancelling it and now, since he did, I am out about $10.00.  Doesn't seem like a lot but it's the principle.  This policy needs to be looked at.

I understand what you're saying, Squirrel, and can see why you think it's a "Ripoff" and unfair but Silk Road assumes all of the risk when hedged orders are placed. It would be entirely impractical to assess cancelled orders on a case by case basis due to the amount of orders that are cancelled by both vendors AND buyers.

The vendor in question should really have messaged you to re-send the address, but vendors are free to do business with whomever they wish, and conduct themselves in any manner they wish as long as they do not violate the terms set out in the Seller Contract and Seller's Guide:

Seller Contract:

Seller's Guide:

The hedging fee (at 4%) is very reasonable for the risk that Silk Road assumes over what can be - in Bitcoin terms - very long periods of time.

Thanks Libertas.  I've been pretty ornery the past few days and when I saw the cancellation, I came to the realization that not getting that order filled was probably going to ruin my weekend too.  Oh well.  It's a small price to pay to get drugs in the mail.  8)

Sorry to hear, Squirrel! Best wishes for a good weekend anyway, hopefully somebody else will be able to hook you up and you can get them back later! What are friends for, eh? :)

Locking this as resolved.
