Title: Transfer hasn't arrived, now 8 days and counting, support doesn't care

So a week ago I bought a small about of BTC, transferred it to my BitStamp wallet (where I've previously transferred to SR from 3-4 times), and attempted to send to SR. The money didn't show up and didn't show up, but with all the downtime and deposit problems in the last week I thought eh, let's give it a couple of days.

(Please note: I did not use the 'get new address' button at any point in this transfer, which several people have suggested might have caused the problem. I also did not make a mistake with the address. Trust me, I've double and triple and octuple-checked.)

Started a forum thread (http://dkn255hz262ypmii.onion/index.php?topic=155255.0), they said be patient and message support if nothing happened. Messaged support, they said be patient, eventually decided I'd been patient enough and badgered them a bit, finally got a terse message with a link to my SR wallet blockchain saying:

'As you can see there have been no deposits in your account for a month, that's why we haven't credited to you. The money was never sent to us.'

But the blockchain of my BitStamp wallet where I sent from shows the BTC leaving about an hour after I requested, just like normal, and going to another address I don't know as a small part of a much larger transfer. The SR forum guys assured me that this was 'the SR tumbler in action' and nothing to worry about. So the transfer definitely happened, it appeared to go into the SR tumbler, and from there it never reached my wallet and no one seems to care.

So what do I do? Do I get in touch with BitStamp support? I sent them a message several days ago, and they responded asking for the address I was transferring to, and which Bitcoin wallet software I was using. I've yet to respond to this because BitStamp have my real name and bank details from when it was still possible to purchase BTC from them in the UK, and I'm not comfortable telling them I was transferring to SR.

tl;dr - Transfer leaves BitStamp wallet, goes into the SR system, never arrives at destination wallet address, SR support basically don't care.

edit: P.S. I guess I kind of come across as an asshole, but it's been a long time of waiting and being asked if I did anything stupid only to be told something I already know, with no real attempt to help ('well, seems like your deposit didn't turn up. Too bad.')

Hi TTa803,

My advice in the previous thread was made around the time of the site-wide deposit issue if I'm not mistaken. I assumed that you were experiencing the same issue as others at the time, but it seems I was wrong. My apologies for that.

However, regarding the above:

The blockchain does not and cannot 'lie', so to speak; if a transaction does not appear at the address in question then it was never received at that address, and if it was never received then it either was never sent or was sent incorrectly by the sender (a large transaction sent but not paying transaction fees, for example, may never get processed or may get processed days or weeks after it is sent.)

Feel free to PM me the BitStamp wallet address that you sent from and the SR wallet address that you deposited to (along with the date, time and amount of the transfer) and I'll see if I can figure out what's going on with it using blockchain.info.

The above gives me cause for concern and leads me to believe that the problem is on BitStamp's end. If you checked your BitStamp address and it shows the BTC leaving that address, never reaching your SR address, and going to one you don't know as part of a larger transaction then that was not the SR tumbler and is something that BitStamp will have to address.

I believe this is why SR Support cannot help you in this instance, as it would seem that the transfer did not actually hit Silk Road at all for some reason on BitStamp's end. On re-reading your previous thread it seems that I overlooked you stating "the destination address isn't mine"; we were answering the same questions regarding deposits from so many people that everything with "deposit issue" looked the same at first glance.

Again, feel free to PM me your BitStamp wallet address and SR wallet address and I'll take a look at it for you.

Okay, it seems we had a miscommunication about this bit. That is indeed what appears to have happened and I'd been assuming it was normal. (I also think I remember this happening on my previous transfer that worked, although I now can't seem to find details of it.)

I'd been assuming it wasn't possible that Bitstamp would just send my withdrawal to an entirely wrong address, but maybe they did?

Anyhow, I've been in contact with Bitstamp support (and just received as I've been typing: 'We've forwarded this issue to our system administrator who will look into it and get back to you'). I'll let you guys know what comes of it.

Having checked this out I'm positive the problem is on BitStamp's end. There is no record at all of your deposit hitting your Silk Road address, which - as far as I'm aware - it would have before being withdrawn and tumbled. If Bitcoin are sent to an address they will ALWAYS reach it directly without any interference. If they could be interfered with on the way from one address to another the entire system would be insecure, pointless and completely open to attack.

I find BitStamp to be an excellent exchange but I have personally had to open up support tickets in the past there to have the odd withdrawal from my account pushed through manually. There are obviously occasional issues with whatever process they're using to send withdrawals automatically, but they are a very helpful exchange and they will certainly sort it out for you.

No need to apologise, I fully understand your frustration - it is YOUR money that is missing. Thankfully this is not a Silk Road fault, and I hope BitStamp get it sorted as soon as possible for you. :)
