Silk Road discussion / Re: Missing PIN and no wiki
« on: May 03, 2013, 11:08 am »
How do I change my PIN?  The wiki is down and has been for days.
Thanks in advance.  Stay strong, roaders!

Hi The Advocate,

The Wiki is currently up - if the page does not load, go to the address bar and if it looks like "http://dkn255hz262ypmii.onion:8088/wiki/", just remove the ":8088" part and you'll be able to get to it fine.

Customer support / Re: Order not arrived - advice please.
« on: May 03, 2013, 10:43 am »
I've got about 30 transactions under my belt so far, all have passed without a hitch until my most recent order.

I've never had to resolve an order, and I've never auto-finalized, so I'd appreciate some advice on how to proceed...

On Thursday 25th I placed an order.
It was marked "in transit" on Friday 26th.
The listing specified next day delivery, so I was expecting it to arrive on Saturday 27th.
It didn't, and then that morning the first wave of the recent dDoS attacks began.

I was unable to contact the vendor until Tuesday 2nd.
They advised me that it had actually been sent out the day before, Monday 1st. As the listing specified 1st class post, I assumed it'd be here by now, even if it was posted only a couple of days ago.

In short, I ordered some product 7 days ago and it hasn't yet arrived - even though the vendor specified next day delivery.

Now, I messaged the vendor again asking about their re-ship policy. They said I had to wait 14 days before they would consider a package to be lost. Annoying, but fair enough.

However, they also asked me to "just finalize and I'll send you back your coins straight away". I politely said that I'm not going to finalize until I have some product in my hands. I've had no further response.

What would you suggest I do? The auto-finalize date is 10 days away, the vendor's 14 day missing shipment policy is 7 days away.
I've never had to use the "resolve" button before, but it looks like I may have to.
I'm in the UK, and in my eyes one week is plenty of time to get an order to someone.

If I hit resolve, what is the process? And how will it affect my stats?

The vendor has only been trading for a short time, and no longer has any active listings. I won't name them because I don't think that's relevant at this stage.

Advice please?

Hi android465764E,

You are absolutely right not to finalise for this vendor. As you are well aware there is no need to finalise until you have the product you ordered in your hands, and it is as advertised on the vendor's listing.

Once you enter the resolution center the order will not auto-finalise.
The resolution process is very easy; you simply hit 'resolve' and you're taken directly to the resolution center. From there you have two options:

You can state your case and propose either an extension of X amount of days, or a refund - full or partial. The vendor is free to either accept or reject your proposal and offer a counter-proposal, just as you are free to accept or reject a vendor's proposal and offer a counter-proposal of your own.

If you request a refund when the auto-finalise date is not yet near then an Administrator will usually extend the resolution by 5 days, though this may not be the case given the shipping method that you paid for.
When an extension is agreed upon the issue will not come to the attention of an Administrator again until the extension period runs out. However, both parties are free to come to an alternative agreement within the resolution center during this time.

If an agreement cannot be reached between the vendor and the buyer then an Administrator will make a decision based on the information available to them. This decision is final. For this reason it is important to furnish all the evidence that you have to support your case during the resolution process.

Entering resolution itself will not affect your stats, however if you are issued a refund either full or partial, your refund rate will increase. You are also completely within your rights to name and shame this vendor as they are acting very suspiciously indeed.

Thanks for replying. Now I understand. I'll get on the posting right away. I've already beefed up my security and won't let my guard up.

BTW, love the quote :)

You're very welcome, and I'm glad to hear you have your security beefed up - remember though, we can never stop learning and there are always new methods that we need to keep up to date with to keep ourselves safe.
Keep a close eye on the Security forum, there are a lot of very knowledgeable posters in there! :)

Newbie discussion / Re: SamGiancana is a scammer
« on: May 03, 2013, 06:16 am »
He ripped me off as well.  I had ordered from him two times before and both times got the order.  He was incredibly fast with the shipping and had me tracking info within an hour or two of placing the order.  I always received them within 2-3 days.  The third time I ordered, he asked me to FE.  I reluctantly did because I had received his other orders so quickly and he had a really good rating.

Since then, he gave me a fake tracking number the same day I ordered.  I messaged him about 5 times and after 4 days I got a message back saying that someone had hacked his account and was giving out fake tracking.  He asked me to tell him what I had ordered and my address again and he would re-ship it.  I did what he asked and that was on Tuesday and I have still had no response.  I have sent him several messages and no response.

I know that because I Finalized Early there is likely nothing that I can do.  This is the first time I have been ripped off for a fairly large sum on the site, so it saddens me.  :(  I reported him to SR, but haven't heard anything back.  He is still getting orders like crazy though, and I am sure that all those people are going to be disappointed as well.  I still see FE on 75 percent or more of them.  Is there anything else I can do to stop him from ripping people off?  This is my first post, so not sure how this works.  Thank you

Hi muse2013,

Welcome to the forums. Sorry to hear about your misfortune; the only thing you can do is report the vendor to SR Support and never FE for any vendor in the future, even if you have made successful purchases from them before. SR Support cannot do anything about orders that are not kept in escrow. As far as they are concerned, 'finalised' means that the order was received and everything was satisfactory. If there's a problem, that is what the Resolution Center is for.

99% of the time you will be able to find a vendor offering the product you desire that does not require FE. Sometimes it may be a little pricier but personally speaking I would rather pay $10 or so more for an order that will remain in escrow. As I said to just4kikzz though, it's a hard way to learn never to FE. :(

Sorry that we can't be of more help in this instance.

sorry about the capitals just trying to get my head around this bloke never had a bad experience on sr till now and i went to resolution center gave him an exstension for 10 days but one day before it run out he said hewould reship with tracking if i FE so i took his word and here i am my fault realy but hopefuly SR can just say something to him so othersdont go thru this shit cheers peeps

No worries about the caps, it's just easier to read and understand when it's either in all lower case or capitalised in small doses. I fully understand your frustration, and it is a very hard way to have to learn the lesson never to FE.  :( There's unfortunately nothing SR Support can do for you in this instance; if other buyers complain that the same thing has happened to them then SR Support will weigh up the information available to them and take whatever action they deem necessary.

Again, sorry to hear of your misfortune.  :(

Customer support / Re: Bitcoins transaction help!
« on: May 03, 2013, 04:01 am »
hi, yes another silkroad newbie here

i just bought bitcoins from localbitcoins.com and transfered to my silkroad deposit account ( where it says to deposit for the first time ) .. and i've done it from localbitcoins.com  and i have not yet received them in my SR account, and i was wondering if i just wasted a chunk of cash? or do i need to wait a certan time.. or is it instantly? . cheers

Further to mdpro's comment, it can take up to 24 hours for BTC that you deposit to reach your account, sometimes longer. However, in most cases you will have it within a few hours.

It is important to note that hitting 'get a new address' when you're waiting for BTC to be received can cause issues with crediting the correct account, so when you're depositing you should always wait until the BTC has been received before changing your deposit address.

It is recommended that you hit 'get a new address' before any deposit, once you're not expecting BTC into the account.

Did you Finalise Early on your order with SamGiancana?
You may receive more responses here if you don't type all in capitals as many people will point-blank refuse to read something in all caps.

I just signed up with my Tormail address after that service started working again. I haven't received any sort of e-mail verification message yet. Because of this or some other reason, I'm not able to post anything in these forums except the customer support section. What's up?

Hi Baraka,

Welcome to the forums.

No e-mail verification message is needed to participate on the Silk Road forums. However, new members can only post in the Newbie and Support forums; this restriction was brought in to fight major spamming efforts that were being made by one entity.

Once you reach 50 posts you will be able to post anywhere you wish. In the meantime, please do your reading in the Security forum to ensure your security is up to scratch, and read the Stickies at the top of each forum.

I was attempting to withdraw BTCs from my account and move them to another wallet off-site...when I clicked the withdraw button and the transaction started to process, it stopped with an error (the screen just showed the SR logo on the upper left-hand side and the word "Withdrawal" below). I attempted to refresh, only to get another error saying I could not transfer less than .00001 BTCs (I was transferring more than that). Now my account history shows a withdrawal of X.XXX BTC at 2:11 UTC, with no wallet address listed as its destination although I'd obviously entered it before.

I would really like my BTCs back...thanks very much in advance for your asssistance.

Hi gonk,

Could you go to blockchain.info, input the address that you were withdrawing the BTC to and let us know if the withdrawal appears there or not. That will go some way to resolving the issue, and finding out whether your BTC did indeed leave the site or whether they're stuck in SR limbo.

Customer support / Re: One bad review
« on: May 03, 2013, 02:32 am »
Sorry scout, I know you've locked this but I just wanted to post this here for the benefit of others that may be asking the same question.

How the feedback score is determined is outlined in the Silk Road Wiki, and it explains how one rating can affect a vendor's overall rating by a seemingly inordinate amount:

http://dkn255hz262ypmii.onion/wiki/index.php?title=Feedback_Score

Quote from: Silk Road Wiki
Feedback Score

What is Feedback Scoring?

You may have noticed the (100) next some vendors names, this is their Feedback Score. This is a quick way of finding out how reputable a vendor is, a step to take before reading some of their actual feedback. This score is a weighted average, based on many aspect of their transactions. The weights are determined by a few factors, and here they are, in order of importance:

How active a buyer is in rating other vendors
    The age of the rating
    The price of the transaction

In order for a vendor's rating to appear next to their name, they must be reviewed enough for it to be a meaningful average. This requires roughly 10 reviews per month, but can be more or less depending of the weights of the reviews.

***The Formula***

The buyer activity weight is determined by finding the average and standard deviation of the log of the number of vendors reviewed by buyers who've ever left a review. If the log of the number of vendors reviewed by the buyer who left the feedback is greater than the average, the review has a "buyer activity" weight of the number of standard deviations above the average plus one. If it is below average, then the weight is the inverse of the number of standard deviations below the average minus one.

The age weight is found by raising 1.02337 to the power of the review's age in days and then inverting it. We got 1.02337 by making a review half as valuable after one month as one that's just been posted.

The price weight comes from the following formula: 0.2*log(0.02*($price)+1)+1 where $price is in dollars.

You then multiply the weights together to get the total weight for that review. Add up all of the weighted reviews and divide by the total weight to get the weighted average, then do 25*(1-avg) to get "percent positive reviews" metric.

To get the seller rank, we find the averages and standard deviations of the "percent positive feedback" and the log of the total weight of the reviews for all active sellers. We then average the number of standard deviations a seller has above or below the average with a 4 to 1 weight on their average feedback over their total weight. This is a seller's rating, and we rank everyone according to this rating.

There are a few little details left out for brevity, but that's basically it.

I must have created a couple of different usernames and associated one of them with my email address I want listed on this username.  How do I change it?  When I try to, it tells me "that email is already associated with a different username"?  Please advise  :)

Thank you to anyone who can help me!

All the best,

Hi llwrstlr,

The only way to change your current forum email address to the one you want to use is to log in to the account that is currently using it and change it to something else.
