Customer support / Re: Resolution inquiry
« on: May 04, 2013, 07:49 pm »
Hello , SR staff !

I have case opened in resolution center that due in was on 1st of may. Is there a time frame period that you can confirm you need to review it . I am new to the "game" and actually got unlucky on my first order - reputed seller to had some issues sending goods and responding to my questions .

I take into account that SR is attacked for a while and it might be hard for you to work same as its hard for us buy/sell .

Thanks !

Dzlatev

Hi dzlatev,

The moderating staff here don't have access to the Silk Road system at all, so we cannot give you a time-frame for when SR Support will get to your issue.

However, once SR Support have dealt with the orders in resolution that were sent to them before yours they will deal with your issue. Please note that once orders are put into resolution that they won't auto-finalize so you can rest easy if that is concerning you.

You can read more about how the resolution process works on the SR Wiki here:

so stupid. so annoying. shuttered a 700+ account and now i am locked ina box of hell.

free forums open discussion my ass!

yeah still dont feel better time is money and this is costing me money getting to 50 OPEN IT UP and let us out the fcu&in box!

OH yeah have to type that dman code in the BOX!!!! life is about living outside the box mods get on teh stick!!!!

there was a mod.. LIMITLESS...

TAKE THE HINT!

i dont think i would do that well in jail either....

LOL!

This is indeed a free forum that allows open discussion. Freedom of speech is a cornerstone of this community. However, there is no use in having a forum that we cannot conduct open discussion in as a result of mass spamming, thus a 50 post restriction was put in place to ensure that the main boards remain as spam-free as possible.

The captcha was put in place to defeat bots employed by the spammers to plaster spam in as many places as they could with no effort.

Once you reach 50 posts you will be free to engage in any discussion that interests you - as freely and openly as you wish - in any forum.

Newbie discussion / Re: Bitcoins did not get to SR!!!
« on: May 04, 2013, 06:59 pm »
I was looking more at my transaction and it says it just went today at 2:32pm, 12 minutes to confirm. I'm assuming that it was able to get through to SR till recently, so hopefully soon it will show up. Unfortunately, the minute I tried to leave the initial SR login page it timed out and I can see nothing again. I've only been on SR for about a month. Have received a few shipments, but I can't afford for money to disappear. Or spend days and hours trying to get in either. After this order if the issues are not resolved, as much as I'd hate to, I may have to move go elsewhere : (

Hi Minny,

Which Bitcoin client are you using? If it is a desktop based client then the reason that the transaction was only sent today is because the client has to sync with either the full blockchain (in the case of the bitcoin-qt client) or a partial blockchain (in the case of MultiBit and a few others). Your client only caught up with the block that your transaction was included in at 2:32pm.

It can take up to 24 hours for your Bitcoin to reach your Silk Road account, however it normally takes a lot less time than that.
If your BTC is not in your Silk Road account within 24 hours, feel free to send a message to SR Support on the main site when it is back up with the details of your transfer so as they can figure out where it is and manually credit it to you.

Silk Road is currently under a DDOS attack, and this kind of limited access is unprecedented in Silk Road's history. It has been online since February 2011 with minimal down-time (~3%), meaning in the 26 months it has been in existence it has been up for approximately 25.22 of those.

Dread Pirate Roberts will continue to persevere in his/her efforts to get the site back up, and has a contingency plan in place which you can read more about here:

That poster was quoting DPR's post from his Sticky in the main forum, albeit without the appropriate quote tags. You'll find the original post here:

Alright well sounds like I'll just have to be patient! Thanks again for the help!

You're very welcome.

I'll keep this thread open until you can confirm that the issue is resolved, so if you wouldn't mind posting back here to confirm all is well I'd appreciate it.

The 97%+ is an estimate of the up-time between February 2011 when the site went live and today, May 4th, 2013. Silk Road has been online for 26 months. The 97% estimate translates to online time of 25.22 months, which I'm sure you'll agree is fairly accurate given the fact that the site has up a lot more than it has been down over the past 30 days, and previous outages lasted no longer than a couple of days in total.

I am unaware of a site that has measured Silk Road's up-time from the time it went live, but if you can find one I believe it would reflect my 97% estimation.

Referring to DPR's statement above, if it is indeed something that cannot be resolved unless the Tor software or the Tor network itself are restructured then there's not much that taking SR down and rebuilding will accomplish.

Libertas
No. I have only been able to log on 1 time for 10 - 15 minutes in the last 3 days. So I cannot confirm if the site has been up 97% of the time or not.
However, the site being up 97% of the time does not matter if there are only 3 good working nodes for many people to connect with.

The 3% downtime includes the past 3 days. I agree that if there are connectivity issues then site up-time is irrelevant, however I was simply stating that it is premature to suggest an onion site with 97% up-time needs a re-build to resolve those connectivity issues.

I do see where you're coming from though.

Libertas,

Thanks for the timely reply and the reassurance. I guess the combination of seeing my coins leave my account and not being able to get onto SR had me worried haha. I was aware of SR's tumbling feature but I guess I'd never actually seen it in action. If I do happen to reach the 24-hour mark without receiving my funds and am still unable to get onto the main site to get in contact with Support; what would you suggest I do?

No problem, I'm glad I could help put you at ease. :) I fully understand your worry though, and would feel the same way myself if I was unaware of how the system works.

If you can't get on to the main site you won't know if you've received your funds or not but when it does come up and the funds have still not arrived you will be able to message SR Support by clicking the link in the bottom right hand corner of the page. Other than that, there's unfortunately not much more you can do at this time.

Hi, yesterday I was able to log on and the stats were working correctly.

Great, thanks very much for letting us know. :)

I'll lock this thread now as the issue is seemingly resolved but if you notice it happening again when the site is back up please PM me and I'll unlock it.

Product requests / Re: Swatting
« on: May 04, 2013, 05:27 pm »
Remember when you could buy assassinations on darkweb, if you had the money there were people/groups that supposedly offered this.

Well, SR would never have that, not that that affects me (i would never need one nor could i afford a pro-job) but Swatting is the new 'hit'
instead of whacking people, a professional vendor that knew how to SWAT could offer his services on here.

[For those of you that don't know: Swatting-calling the police and threatening a bomb threat against a school or POTUS etc. but making sure that the caller ID is that of someone who's house you want raided by S.W.A.T. so when LEO and the Feds trace the number of the threat it is not yours, but the number that corresponds to the house you want raided]

DPR and the staff could monitor this to see that it is not being abused and the price of a professional Swat, i am assuming would deter most teens from simply messing around and having fun.

But if any of you reading this knows how to swat you could charge BTC for phone numbers or addresses so all the buyer would have to do is provide you with the number or address of their intended victim. Approx 24-48 hours after the transaction is finalized a 12 man bulletproof SWAT team kicks in the door of your target and Fucks their day up.

This could be an extremely useful tool. In fact i would consider it a nuclear weapon for us Libertarians to use against the oppressive government. Maybe id 'swat' a dirty politician or corrupt official and after a series of coordinated Swat attacks by us we'd have the government by the balls...using their own soldiers(LE) against themselves.

Anyone who knows how to swat 100% perfectly every time could make some serious BTC.

Are you serious?! How on earth would DPR or Silk Road staff be able to monitor this to ensure it's not being abused?! Not only that, but why should they have to?! ???

This would be an entirely destructive 'service' that could lead to people getting seriously hurt or even killed if a SWAT team breaks down their door and the occupant is armed thinking it's a burglary. It would fall under Silk Road's restricted items list in any event as its purpose is to harm another person, so would not be allowed on the marketplace.

An outrageous suggestion in any event.

Silk Road discussion / Re: Letter to the attacker(s)
« on: May 04, 2013, 05:14 pm »
Quick correction: SR launched around March of 2011. I know I had friends vending on it by late April/early May of 2011.

I believe that was the relaunch, the site was private for months after a article on gawker and its affiliates.
It was also located at a different URL, the old URL just tells you to go to the new URL

Anyone actually have a SR history?

Silk Road went live in February 2011 having been developed and tested for 6 months previous to that.

Silk Road is an onion site that boasts 97%+ uptime; I think the suggestion to take Silk Road down and rebuild it is, at this point, very premature.

Libertas

I realize "uptime" does not equate to being able to log on. But I would like to see those stats for myself, especially over the last 30 days. This is what I was referring to, as quoted from DPR -
"UPDATE (04/30/2013 0035 UTC): We have come a long way in the battle, but still do not have the upper hand.  It's looking more and more like a restructuring of the tor software or even the tor network will be required to mitigate the kind of attack we are under. "

Silk Road discussion / Re: Backup plans
« on: May 04, 2013, 04:34 pm »
Hope this not a big scam from ur part, anw What about the database? Hope you back up for a new begining, now how we could get back our funds?

If this is a government attack, they will publish it with honor.
If this is a hacker attack, there must be a negotiation between the two ends, and this market will survive.

If both possibilities didn't happen, THIS WILL BE A BIG SCAM FROM DPR.

Me too i fnd it hard to be the government, i mean, in this case, they will shutdown the whole onion, at least the child pornography first. And they will celebrate this news.

But as far as can i see, life is based on similarities, i mean, tony76, lucydrop, the matrix, and many other vendors did it. They scam and start a new beginning.

Ill miss the avengers thread anw.

Three times in this thread you've asserted your opinion that DPR is out to scam everyone. You are, of course, entitled to your opinion.

However you fail to take a number of things into consideration; the site is currently under a DDOS attack. If it were DPR's intention to scam everyone he/she would have done so when the site was live, not allowing withdrawal of any funds at all so as users could continue depositing money and nothing could be withdrawn from the site.

DPR would not be posting updates, nor would he/she attempt to get the site back up and running - he/she would simply abscond with the Bitcoin that is in user accounts and in escrow (and there is a phenomenal amount of BTC sitting in Silk Road wallets, with users being able to withdraw when the site is live.)

If it were DPR's intention to abscond with user funds, it would have happened by now, most likely when Bitcoin were increasing in value to the $260 mark.

This is not a scam by Silk Road's founder; this is an attempt at mitigating the effects of the DDOS and preserving the free market that we all enjoy here.

Security / Re: help! btc in mtgox without verified account
« on: May 04, 2013, 03:52 pm »
Mt. Gox can ask you to verify your account for absolutely no reason at any time; this is stated in the terms & conditions which you should have read prior to trading on their exchange.

On March 13h, 2013, Mt.Gox revised their BTC withdrawal limits:

Quote from: Mt.Gox Support Desk
Due to recent events in the Bitcoin community and the spike in the Bitcoin price we at Mt.Gox are putting in place a new daily withdrawal limits. While our daily limits for traditional currencies will remain unchanged with a maximum of $1,000 USD per 24 hrs, the Bitcoin daily withdrawal limit will change from 200BTC to 100BTC per 24 hrs for unverified customers. Verified and Trusted customers that already have their daily/monthly limit raised will not be affected with this change, however, Verified and Trusted customers that hare not yet asked for their withdrawal limit to be raised will then be offered the following limits :

Verified Status (Level 1) Maximum monthly withdrawal of 50,000 USD (or equivalent) capped to a maximum of 10,000 USD per 24 hrs and a 1,000 BTC withdrawal per 24 hrs without any monthly limit.

Trusted Status (Level 2) Maximum monthly withdrawal of 500,000 USD (or equivalent) capped to a maximum of 100,000 USD per 24 hrs and a 10,000 BTC withdrawal per 24hrs without any monthly limit. Of course we will re-evaluate these limits and adapt and revert them to their past value if necessary and if the value of Bitcoin against USD decreases.

As mentioned above, you can normally withdraw up to $1,000 USD per day without verification, but can only withdraw 100BTC per day (so be careful if the value falls below $100.00 USD per BTC), and accessing Mt.Gox through Tor will get your account flagged for verification.
