Silk Road discussion / Re: Question...PLEASE HELP!
« on: May 05, 2013, 04:07 am »
ahhhh dammit lol. I've been sitting here for like three hours waiting for all my transfers to come in, just to find out I don't have enough lol. Thanks for the help guys, I know this question has been asked before, but I always have problems searching here...it constantly tells me my last search was 0 seconds ago

Thanks again guys! Especially for that link, very helpful!

You're very welcome. :)

The reason for the 'your last search was 0 seconds ago' message popping up is because of the way Tor works; the forum sees us all as using the same I.P. address, so that will pop up from time to time. If you try a few times it'll usually go through.

It's cool spam away on this thread I dont care,  4 hours.... Good god.    That's 600 bucks where I come from. I never had to do this when I joined. But times are a changing for sure with all the attacks and being down and all. I was pissed this morning but better now!
I really only ever went to one thread that was it almost all 700 posts were there. I would go out of that thread and the negative karma would just stick like fly paper.

I love when u hit the 100 mark to be able to give karma. I felt like I cared about getting to 100 but this 50 for some reason got me annoyed.

Not a troll. Don't even play one under a bridge so unless u like the meth vendor forum this is the only spot u may ever see me.

I requested in my previous post in this thread that people not spam forum topics. If this devolves into a spamming thread it will be locked. Please use it to discuss the subject at hand.

There are enough threads being spammed for the time being.

On top of that in case you're a newb and unless you spend your 50 posts spamming at threads, you'll probably learn a lot of things by participating in the forums :).

Exactly Arkedaz; people will benefit a lot more from participating in discussions than spamming those 50 post threads. I'm still not sure how I feel about those threads, and they're something I'll be bringing up with the moderating team in the next few days with a view to allowing them to continue or not depending on the collective opinion.

Silk Road discussion / Re: Question...PLEASE HELP!
« on: May 05, 2013, 03:42 am »
Hey guys..

I am in the process of transferring some money to my SR account to make a purchase...I have my account set to show all prices and my account balance, etc in USD instead of BTC...now, I just transferred the coins I already had, and im waiting on the confirmation for some coins i've transferred to a few other wallets before sending them here.

The USD value SR is showing is about $80 off of its true value...is this some sort of temporary error or something? I have the correct amount of BTC that I sent here, but the USD value is waaaaaay off. Will this effect me from making my purchase since SR is giving me a much smaller value than what they are actually worth?

Hi bcldg,

Silk Road uses a rolling Mt.Gox Weighted Average price - updated frequently - to determine the value of Bitcoin used here. The SR price is currently accurate; however, you can use the following method to determine when the best time to place an order would be to get the most for your money:

can you make 2 orders at once if you choose not to use PGP and its with 2 differenent vendors. would it screw up escrow ?

You can make as many orders from as many vendors as you wish at once, but why on earth wouldn't you be using PGP?! You can encrypt your address for multiple vendors and there are guides on how to do that available in this very forum. A search will turn them up.

Whilst PGP isn't required to make a purchase, it is necessary for your own safety. You should be acting at ALL times as though Silk Road is compromised - if you do not, you will inevitably let your guard down. There are countless reasons why you don't want to be sending your name and address to vendors in cleartext.

Learn how to use PGP, it literally takes less than an hour to wrap your head around as much as you need to for using it to encrypt / decrypt messages and its value is priceless.

i think it's not the best way to split the newbies from the old users......
i myself didn't use the forum for posting since now, because i don't have a lot of time and normally don't have any questions...but as a old SR user i'm not really feeling like a newbie

AGREE, I've on SR for about 8 months now. Since before the 50 post rule and couldn't understand why all of a sudden I couldn't post.

The 50 post rule was implemented to stop the spammers from btkoin et al from spamming every single forum here. As a result of the newbie forum being created for those with less than 50 posts they now post here, though every effort is made to remove their posts as quickly as possible. There is usually at least one moderator online and we deal with the spam as soon as we see it.

Newbie discussion / Re: New account
« on: May 05, 2013, 01:43 am »
Hi I would like to register a new account, I can forum message someone to prove I am human and not some kind of ddos attack?  ;D

There are currently no restrictions on new signups; this is the second time I've seen this over the past day or two - do you mind posting the address of the site you're attempting to sign up at?

To register an account, go to http://silkroadvb5piz3r.onion/silkroad/home and click the 'click here to join' link.

You should ALWAYS be visiting silkroadvb5piz3r.onion, unless Dread Pirate Roberts directs otherwise in his thread in the Silk Road discussion forum.

Newbie discussion / Re: 1st deposit
« on: May 05, 2013, 01:38 am »
So i just made my first deposit into my SR account about an hour ago and the funds still haven't shown up.  Is this normal?  How long does it usually take?

Hi backpackjackson,

Your deposit can take up to 24 hours to arrive at your Silk Road account, however they normally arrive within a few hours. If after 24 hours they have failed to arrive, simply message SR Support using the 'support' link in the bottom right hand corner on the main site - include your deposit address and the time & date of the transfer and they will credit them manually for you.

bunnyburt, I would suggest checking clearnet Bitcoin forums for information on Barclay's ping-it. You're more likely to find informational posts regarding something like that on a forum such as bitcointalk.org. You can browse and search through Tor without registering there.

Locking this as resolved. (bunnyburt, if you feel I'm locking this prematurely, let me know via PM.)

Thanks for the input. It's been almost 24hrs now, and I'm finally in, so I'll go ahead and send them a message. But, what info do I give them without compromising my money : )

btw, it's not a local client, it's web based and although the wallet says it was just sent today, I put in the transaction almost 24hours ago. It just posted that it was sent at 2:32 today. Not sure what the timezone is on that, definitely not mine. Typically it takes about an hour when I do this, even earlier this week when problems were off and on, so I'm a little concerned.

I know you put the transaction in 24 hours ago but as the web based wallet only sent the transaction today, you would have to wait until tomorrow at 2:32 before messaging SR Support. There is no point in messaging them now as it hasn't been 24 hours since the transfer was actually initiated.

It could very well be an issue with your web-based wallet. Which web-wallet site are you using, if you don't mind me asking? Feel free to PM me about it, and try checking searching the name on the clearweb to see if any other users had similar issues.

Customer support / Re: Resolution inquiry
« on: May 04, 2013, 08:26 pm »
I'd also like to add that autofinalize AND resolution have been disabled until the site has been up for 48 hours uninterrupted.

I wasn't aware that resolution was disabled as well for that time period - thanks scout!
