Can't find the answer to this anywhere so thought I would ask here before bothering SR support.

Towards the end of April I placed an order. Two weeks later I cancelled it (as did  many other people) as the vendor suddenly began to not answer any messages and began to get bad feedback for not sending out orders. So, no problem there.

This vendor has since  been flagged as a possible LE honeytrap.

They did not have a PGP facility so i sent my address via a Privnote link in the order.

Remembering the order was never marked 'in transit', I am wondering if it would be possible for SR to retrieve the text of my order for me so that I can check if the suspicious vendor opened the Privnote link containing my address or not? If not I could open it myself - it would then be destroyed and my peace of mind restored.

Many thanks for your time.

Hi Intraterrestrial,

As far as I am aware Silk Road cannot retrieve the text from the address field. However, that is something you would have to clarify with SR Support.

>:(

This is really frustrating. I got kicked off SR while sorting out a postage option for a new purchase then got kicked out/had to log back in.

I've tried a million fucking times now, in a row, and it just doesn't work.

I setup another account and PM SR Support, but no reply. They have not logged in over a month.

It's not the verification code because I've not had a problem logging in with my new account - just the old one (and it still doesn't work).

Anyone know what's up or where support's at?

Hi kimjongill,

I'm not entirely sure what's happening there, but please make sure that you are using the latest update for the Tor Browser Bundle and are accessing the correct URL: silkroadvb5piz3r.onion

SR Support's login date is not reflective of when they are actually online; it can take up to 48 hours to receive a response from SR Support, but it may take longer at the moment as there is quite a large backlog of messages to go through.

SR Support are the only ones who can sort this out in any event, if it isn't just an issue with your Tor Browser Bundle.

Hello -

I'm going through my numbers for transactions and I've come across a stumper.  I need a breakdown of fees (fee schedule) for vendors for ANY and EVERYTHING that is charged for.  It is probably available in the VENDOR SECTION of these forums - but my MONTH OLD request for SR Vendor status (3 requests, actually) have gone without response.  I was asked to be patient, but waiting a month to have critical information such as this - it's a little ridiculous, especially with the amount of money being taken out of these listings.

So - I want my SR Vendor Status & I want to know where my money is going.

Maybe you guys should take all the money you're making - which has got to be ungodly - and hire a few more people to get some simple shit done - if I ran my business this way, I'd be out of business - but I'm not running a monopoly on an illegal enterprise - must be nice.

Hi Nod4Less,

Please see here for getting access to the Vendor Roundtable and obtaining the 'Vendor' tag:
http://dkn255hz262ypmii.onion/wiki/index.php?title=Vendor_roundtable

Once you satisfy the requirements set out on the page above you will need to message Vendor Support over on the main site and they will deal with your request for Vendor Roundtable access.

You can find all the information regarding Silk Road fees in the following post:
http://dkn255hz262ypmii.onion/index.php?topic=100160.msg702790#msg702790

Been searching the wiki and the forums and can't seem to see the transaction fee %'s spelled out anywhere.

Anybody know them, or have a link\want to point me in the right direction?

Hi moksha,

The commission scale has been laid out on the forums a number of times but it always disappears in the haze of crazy posts! Here's an example from DPR's State of the Road Address:
http://dkn255hz262ypmii.onion/index.php?topic=8397.0

We also went to the Silk Road independent sellers to see what they thought an appropriate commission schedule would look like.  The average response looked like this:

15% of the first $10
11% of $10 - $50
8.14% of $50 - $250
5.6% of $250 - $1000
3.7% of $1000 - $5000

We looked at past sales data and our current and future revenue needs and were able to bring these numbers down even further:

10% of the first $50
8.5% of $50 - 150
6% of $150 - 300
3% of $300 - 500
2% of $500 - 1000
1.5% for everything over $1000

So taking DPR's fee scale, here is how a sale is broken down:

In a $300 sale, for example:

$50 is charged at 10% of the first $50, so $5 fee.
$100 is charged at 8.5% of the next $50 - $100, so $8.50 fee.
$150 is charged at 6% of the final $150 - $300, so $9 fee.

Total: $300.
Total commission: $22.50
Total paid to vendor for item: $277.50
Total paid to vendor for item, if hedging order (@ 4% hedging fee): $266.40

In a $1016 sale, for example:

$50 is charged at 10% from the $0 - $50 point, so $5 fee.
$100 is charged at 8.5% from the $50 - $100 point, so $8.50 fee.
$150 is charged at 6% from the $150 - $300 point, so $9 fee.
$200 is charged at 3% from the $300 - $500 point, so $6 fee.
$500 is charged at 2% from the $500 - $1000 point, so $10 fee.
$16 is charged at 1.5% from the $1000 and up point, so $0.24 fee.

Total: $1016.
Total commission: $38.74
Total paid to vendor for item: $977.26
Total paid to vendor for item, if hedging order (@ 4% hedging fee): $938.17

That post explains how much you get if you choose pre-commission, how much you get if you choose post-commission, how much you get if you decide to hedge, and what the customer will actually see on the listing itself depending on the option you choose.

Just one thing to add about fees: commission is not charged on the price of shipping.

I hope that answers your questions; please let me know if you need any further information.

Yeah I have that's why I have to start with such high prices. Once I make that back and then a little more I will be able to drop prices drastically. Maybe I'm being naive but I think the price people charge on here locally compared ot the price it is available at face to face is exorbitant. I plan to provide fair deals to the community and a very modest profit to myself.

Okay great, well just in case you don't know you're entitled to that bond back if / when you meet the terms of it:

Might be a bit of a help to you if you weren't aware of that.

Best of luck! :)

Read this: dkn255hz262ypmii.onion/wiki/index.php?title=Seller's_Guide

Then go here: silkroadvb5piz3r.onion/silkroad/register_seller

This poster is right on the money! :)

Also, do your research in the Shipping and Security forums, ensure you know how to correctly use PGP and ensure you have enough cashflow to last you a month of re-upping in case of finalisation delays / shipping delays etc.

Newbie discussion / Re: Real Info & BitInstant/BitFog
« on: May 11, 2013, 03:45 am »
So I am about ready to make my first purchases next week (relatively small amount <$200):

My question is regarding BitInstant:

I live in a relatively small area, where the same people frequent.  Giving fake names etc seems to add a lot of sketch factor when what you're doing is perfectly legal (purchasing BTC).

If I'm using Bitinstant with my real name/info, then sending said coins to the Bitfog tumbler, is there really any reason for me to be concered with possible traces?  The tumbler should, in theory, make my initial deposit obscured so that my transfer to SR (and/or other black markets) would appear diffuse?

Thankx

Yup, that's correct - once you tumble the BTC sufficiently their origins will be completely obscure. You don't actually get YOUR Bitcoin back from the tumbler, you get different Bitcoin back (or rather different encryption keys).. That's all to do with how Bitcoin works but for making a purchase, yes, your process should be more than sufficient. :)

Newbie discussion / Re: VPN vs. ISP - Who Wins?
« on: May 11, 2013, 03:38 am »
I really wish I could post this in the proper forum, but unfortunately I don't really have the time/inclination to spam to 50. Maybe I will at some point, though. Either way, I'm glad to do my part to prevent that awful spamming bullshit we had to deal with.

My question here is very basic. I just want to know, basically, how a VPN works. From what I've read, they create an encrypted pipeline to the internet, but what does that mean for security in addition to TOR? The real reason I wanted to get a VPN was so my ISP can't "spy" on what I'm doing on the clearnet, but, more importantly, can't decisively know whether or not I'm using TOR (I have heard ISPs have ways of knowing by simply checking their database records). In this day in age, SR is no longer underground. We have to face facts - LE aren't stupid. If you're using TOR, that in and of itself may be grounds for investigation - maybe not today, but someday. Especially if you have a previous criminal record. So I'm wondering, does this VPN work to prevent my ISP from knowing any of the sites I'm connecting to, and, more importantly, whether or not I'm using TOR?

Thanks for any and all responses.

(Maybe a nice mod will move this to the security section? ;) )

There are already many threads in the Security forum discussing this very topic. It is possible to run Tor through a VPN in order to hide the fact that you're using Tor from your ISP.

Just a few threads I found with a quick search:

http://dkn255hz262ypmii.onion/index.php?topic=49275

http://dkn255hz262ypmii.onion/index.php?topic=45249

http://dkn255hz262ypmii.onion/index.php?topic=85322

http://dkn255hz262ypmii.onion/index.php?topic=150472

Don't be afraid to use the Search function - that's what it's there for! :) Do the search from inside whichever forum or thread you wish to search through, or to search all of the forums just search from the forum homepage.

Libertas

Thanks Libertas. And sorry, I always UTSE. I did actually type in "vpn," "isp," etc. but I did not come across a thread that answered my question. But these are fantastic, thank you.

Also, from my previous searches I heard mullvad was the best and that they don't keep logs. Can anyone corroborate this?

No problem at all! :)

As a mod I personally don't want to recommend any VPN provider in case others take that up as me (or even Silk Road) endorsing them. All I'll say is that you can't really be sure that your VPN provider isn't going to be keeping logs. Whichever one you want to go with, you should ALWAYS use a VPN provider that you can pay anonymously (with Bitcoin for instance), and never let the rest of your security drop just because you'll be using a VPN.

Hopefully others can chime in here with their own VPN experiences, but go have a browse through the first few pages of the Security forum and you might find a few recommendations etc.

Good points, and I knew that about the percentage ranking that shows after a vendor's name, but the fact that it shows 0% positive feedback was what confused me.  I wasn't aware that that part would ever revert to 0%.

As far as I'm aware it's because he hasn't "been reviewed enough for a meaningful average". It says it only shows up if a meaningful average can be calculated (it's worded a little weird) but if he needs roughly 10 reviews per month (possibly more if the reviewers don't carry much weight) then only making 28 transactions over a year+ of vending wouldn't cut it.

Also, if you ever see those vendors who have excellent reviews and feedback but then one review for a relatively inexpensive product drops their feedback by quite a large percentage - they're the feedback padders whose own fake buyer account weights counted for nothing at all! ;) Good system to have!
