As scout has stated, the escrow system is there for your protection! This is MORE than enough protection for buyers. Silk Road is not - in any way - responsible for money that is released from the escrow system. When you finalise an order you are stating that it has been received and everything is satisfactory. That is the definition of finalised. ???

If you still have an issue with this, please read the following (in full!) on the Silk Road Wiki:

Security / Re: View feedback - DANGEROUS - WTF?!?!!
« on: May 12, 2013, 09:29 pm »
It should at least require the security pin to access this feedback. I just don't want to get 3 months of activity on my ass in case something goes wrong...

Your username and passphrase are already required to access your account so there is no need for a PIN entry system to access the feedback you've left. Every member is responsible for their own security and actions, and should be taking the necessary precautions to prevent falling victim to phishers and hiding their Tor Browser Bundle on a hidden encrypted volume if they desire no one to have access to it.

Silk Road already does MORE than enough to protect buyers that choose to purchase from vendors here. People, both buyers AND vendors, need to employ a modicum of personal responsibility when using Silk Road!

Cool. I'm good to go. I went ahead and did the 'round robin' with my new account. Made a small deposit then withdrew it back to myself. Worked without a hitch. I went ahead and generated a new address and I'm currently waiting for my actual fun money to hit my account. I'm sure it will be fine this time around because I

A: memorized the Silk Road Address and typed it in manually
B: made a new account
C: tested the account with a deposit and a withdrawal, thus insuring that my info, PIN, PW and all that are correct.
D: did not log in to the new account on my Windows machine to even look...and I WON'T do it again. Just the Tails USB thumb drive for me on SR from here on out! It's kind of a pain in the ass, but it beats doing something stupid and throwing $50 down the toilet. I'm not sure when it happened, or how it happened but I'm sure it happened. I made a mistake somewhere on that first go around. No doubt about it.

Thanks for the patience and help. I haven't forgotten about the old account. I'll check back on it in a day or two and see what support has to say.

That's excellent! I hope it's all smooth sailing for you from here on out, and can see no reason why it wouldn't be. I'll lock this thread once you confirm that you have heard back from SR Support on the issue in the original post.

It disappears after 3 months. Presumably, it's actually deleted from the server at that point.

It would be nice if you could delete it yourself, but I suspect there are two reasons that you can't.

1. Each of those items is associated with another account, the vendor that you purchased from. It would be unfair if they wanted that info and you could delete it from their account. And it would be shady on DPR's part if he allowed you to "delete" it from your account while keeping it on the server and making available to the other party. So I think it's best that neither party can delete it until some standard amount of time (currently 3 months), and you are both made aware that the info exists, because you can see it in your account history.

Of course, the act of deleting it could simply anonymize the data, unlinking it from your account while keeping it in the other account, which leads me to:

2. It protects against scammers. Otherwise, a vendor (or buyer) could scam a bunch of people and erase the evidence with the click of a button. They need to keep the info for some amount of time to identify patterns associated with scammers.

Thank you for posting the above, astor. It was very informative and exactly what was needed to be said!

Newbie discussion / Re: My SR account HACKED Beware!
« on: May 12, 2013, 09:02 pm »
umm, yeah... no.... you weren't hacked. imagine the time it would take to brute force over such a slow network. didn't happen. maybe you used the wrong URL and didn't realize it. seen it time and time again.

take responsibility for your actions and quit blaming others.

How bout you go back to smoking your crack there chief, cause you don't have a clue what your talking about.

Ive stated it many times, but I guess we got have a lot of lazy readers here ::) IVE ONLY EVER USED 1 URL to log in. The correct URL since Ive been on SR. Ive never logged into a phishing site, or provided my pin anywhere. Its NOT even possible since its always the SAME URL that i use. I'm very careful.

Now unless SR has taken control of my account there is NO other explanation as to why I cannot access my own account. So it was either broken into (which is very possible) or SR removed me? (less possible I guess?). In either event It can happen and sucks that none can help. This is a warning to all of you to make damn sure you have VERY strong passwords!

There is also the possibility that you had - or indeed have - a keylogger running on your system. You should check for this, and guides for doing so are available on the clearnet; you can search for them through Tor.

Having your account 'broken into' is not "very possible", it is possible but highly implausible. It would take thousands of years to brute-force a 6 - 8 character long password using random lowercase characters - a more complex password would take much, much longer, and the more complex a password gets the time required to brute-force it grows exponentially.

Would you consider editing the title of your thread to reflect the fact that your account was NOT hacked, as it may be causing other newer members to worry unecessarily? :-\

Awesome, thanks so much :). I understand they probably won't need it but just in case I'll provide it when I think they may.

You're super helpful!

You're very welcome, glad I could help! :)

Oh I can see there is definite incentive as it stands, not to mention the fact that giving people decent product would be a good thing.

Maybe FE could be disabled for a negative balance starters account?

Meh, I'm just thinking out loud really.
I've got a couple of ideas for some products to sell, some gaps in the UK domestic market. I'm not a wealthy man,and I wouldn't plan on shifting massive amounts. But it would take me ages to save up the bond. lol

Oh well. Better start saving those pennies. lol

Requesting that buyers FE is not permitted until a vendor has made 35+ actual transactions and been a member for 1 month+. It's important to do financial projections to include the worst case scenario before becoming a vendor and to factor in the fact that money may be tied up for 20+ days before you will be paid.

You seem like a person that is very interested in your security arrangements etc., so if you do decide to become a vendor I wish you the very best of luck with it! :)

I do have a quick question though. Is it mandatory that you generate a new funding address with every deposit, or can you send to the same address more than once to fund your account?

No, it is not mandatory to generate a new funding address for every deposit. All addresses are uniquely associated with your account. However, I have found that hitting 'get a new address' for each deposit I make (as long as there is no deposit on it's way already) has resulted in no deposit delay issues. Maybe it works, maybe it doesn't, but there's no harm in doing it in order to completely separate each Bitcoin transaction from another.

Again, make sure you don't have a deposit on its way already as changing an address in the middle of a deposit can occasionally cause an issue where it will have to be pushed through manually.
