Newbie discussion / Re: Best bitcoin wallets?
« on: May 13, 2013, 10:52 pm »
Hey guys,

I want my bitcoins to go through a wallet before I move them to the SR, but I'm not sure which bitcoin wallets are the most reputable. Any suggestions?

Also, are there any tutorials that explain how bitcoin wallets work? If so, anyone got a link?

Thanks!

Heya

I'm considering a web wallet to hold a very small amount of bitcoin (.5 or so) before I transfer to SR.

Web wallets seem a lot less complicated than software wallets, which is why I'm considering them.

Remember, I'm only buying a small amount, and I wont be storing the coin for long.

There is no such thing as a 'safe' web based wallet. The only entity you should be trusting with your Bitcoin is you. Further to that, if you're looking for a web based wallet to send to in order to break the link between your wallet and your SR wallet, you won't be able to do that without 'tumbling' the coins. All transactions are recorded in the blockchain so you could send them to 100 different wallets before sending them to SR and it would be no different than sending them to just one different wallet.

Hi all,

I got a response from SR Support and they've asked for some information to verify and link the blocked account to the new one I set up. I've sent this info so hopefully will be getting some good news soon.

I agree with ojojoj's comment - I am relatively new with fewer than 10 transactions and it makes me very uneasy transferring BTC into an account that may suddenly become inaccessible. I take great care with the URL (I've committed it to memory - "vee-bee-5, pizer" with a 3 instead of e) so it's not on the user end.

That said, I have placed another order of green  8) and waiting for more BTC to clear so that I can try out Tyl3r Durden's 25i-NBOME  :o (thanks to the SilkRoad I've had the opportunity for the first time to try DMT from DMT Nexus which was one of the best experiences of my life, and I'm hoping to try more of these magic compounds as time goes on).

I hope the SilkRoad is around for a long time (and whoever's fucking with it gets ass raped). Hopefully as time goes on these kinks will be sorted and it gets more robust.

Will drop by again once I can access my account

Hi kimjongill,

Glad to hear you finally got a response from SR Support - how long did that take in total, out of interest?

The dudes account is already gone, when you click on him it only lets you send message and the number next to his name is gone.

http://dkn255hz262ypmii.onion/index.php?topic=158103.msg1122921#msg1122921

His account is not gone, his vending privileges have been revoked whilst an investigation is done into reports of scamming. If it is found that he has not scammed anyone, his privileges will be reinstated, though that seems unlikely at this stage. Regardless, anyone that has FE'd will not be seeing their money again. An expensive lesson to learn, but an essential one. Do not leave the protection of the escrow system.

Well that seems like better news. Also, contacting SR Support via messages, right? Because the SR Support profile says they haven't been seen in a month, so is there a better way to contact support?

You can find the support page by clicking "support" in the bottom right corner of any page on Silk Road, but here's the direct link:

http://silkroadvb5piz3r.onion/help

Their "last seen" doesn't make a difference at all - they still see all messages sent to them.

Yeah I'll never make that mistake again. I had just needed the resolution center to get my first refund ever too, I can't believe I FE'd but he just looked so reputable =(

I don't.  It makes me sick to think that this man or woman is in pain and can't legally obtain medication for it or get it at a decent price.  Instead shady people are making a enormous profit off of this persons pain.  There are many things wrong with that situation. :(

I fully agree with you, Jack N Hoff - it is a terrible thing that people cannot legally obtain the medication that they require to enhance their quality of life; however, I am very glad that the platform which Silk Road provides has been able to help the person in question obtain what they need in order to make their life more comfortable.

If they were obtaining their medication legally it would be the faceless corporations making an enormous profit off this person's pain. Shady people or faceless corporations, I am happy to see Silk Road making a difference.

Im sorry if that's the way you took it i was merely stating my opinion. i was in no way meaning to "misrepresent" your words.  Yes i know you said that about influencing public opinion, which is why i was saying surely it would be beneficial. No problem anyway Libertas. Thanks for your input mate.

I would be almost certain muska will not respond to me. mainly because he has so many customers he probably thinks he doesn't need to write to me anyway. if you do decide to muska mate im still awaiting your reply from my previous post.

An opinion that you are, of course, more than entitled to! I simply felt the need to clarify my position on the subject.

Thank you for your answer.
How can I give you carma +?

Best regards

Mr. Gardener

You're very welcome. No karma needed, but I appreciate the sentiment!
In any event you will receive the ability to award karma, both positive and negative, when you reach 100 posts. :)

Yes, but if I finalized AFTER the vendor was banned, then the money could not be sent to him, correct?
I feel like my order should have been cancelled when his account was banned, and therefore should still get a refund.

Ah, my apologies. I answered too quickly!
If a vendor has had their account suspended indefinitely then I would advise contacting SR Support with the details of the transaction and stating exactly what has happened.
If a vendor has had their account suspended pending an investigation, then Finalising would still release BTC to their account - however, this account will be frozen, and they won't be able to withdraw from it.

If their vending privileges are reinstated then your BTC will not be refunded as it will count as a regular FE. If their account is not reinstated, you will probably be able to get your BTC back by messaging SR Support. Please note "probably". I'm not 100% sure what happens in this situation as it is presumably very rare that a buyer finalises after an account has been suspended.

Message SR Support in any event as they are the only ones that can help you in this instance. Please be prepared to wait 48 hours minimum for a response as Support are currently experiencing a significant backlog.

I hope it all works out for you in any event.

Wow this really sucks. I'm a broke college student and I've been paying my rent by selling bud. My last order from wheels420 was held up so long and then cancelled because he went AWOL. I already had to get a loan from my friend to pay last time. Then I try this guy and he straight up takes my $700. Guess I'm living with my parents for awhile. Friend is going to be mad at me too because I can't pay him back yet. Thanks TTS you are a real stand-up guy. Asswipe.

Very sorry to hear that, Baboon311, but that is why it's SO important to stay within the protection of the escrow system. :(

The reason i was asking you was because you were a moderator and it would influence people, Seeing as it's a public market surely this would be beneficial.

That is exactly the reason I am withholding my opinion on the matter, as stated in my post above - the last 5 words are important here:

"Furthermore, as a moderator I feel it would be best to withhold my opinion in this regard lest it influence public opinion one way or the other."

Muska if you are reading this the fact that a mod wishes to withhold his statement as it would influence the decision doesn't look good. But thats not too say he agrees with me it could be the complete opposite.

Please do not misrepresent my words by inferring a meaning from them; an inference seemingly reached by taking them completely out of context. I explained my reasoning for withholding my opinion, and also stated the following justifying that reasoning:

'Fairness' is an entirely subjective concept - whether or not I think something is fair is irrelevant as my definition of fair, and yours, are always going to be different from everybody else's."

Newbie discussion / Re: Old Vendor - Can't Post
« on: May 13, 2013, 07:36 pm »
Personally, I am reciting Dr. Seuss in the spam thread. Could you give 50 posts to anyone accepted to vendor roundtable?

Moderators do not have the power to do that, no. Administrators can, but by the time they get around to a person's request the member in questions will usually always have reached 50+ posts. As far as I'm aware, this has never been done in any event.

It also isn't fair on people that do not have a vendor account. Simply because one person can afford a vendor account and another cannot, should they be awarded extra privileges here? I don't think so. We already have a two-tier system like that in real-world society, where they who can afford it are privy to more than they who cannot. This is not something we wish to replicate here.
