Security / Re: bitcoins instantly per paypal?
« on: May 15, 2013, 10:43 pm »
This is absolutely NOT allowed here. There is also the risk of someone getting scammed out of their Bitcoin by accepting PayPal as a method of payment, due to the fact that it is reversible, so it is doubly-not-allowed here.

Locking this thread.

Newbie discussion / Re: How do I get BitCoins?
« on: May 15, 2013, 10:34 pm »
I usually by a MP and have a vendor on here exchange it for me with MtGox average price, but now MtGox is down I guess from the Government.

How can I get BitCoins now and are BitCoin vendors still up and running on SR or no?

Hi TonyTheTiger,

Please consider buying your Bitcoin from somewhere other than Silk Road. Remember that those BTC exchangers CAN up sticks and abscond with your money at ANY time.

You can check out the first part of the Buyer's Guide for ways that you can get your hands on Bitcoin with significantly less risk of being scammed:

Very sorry to hear about your grandpa, hatchetman666.

I know how the elderly can be sometimes when discussing the possibility of trying something new, but perhaps print off some research into the effects of cannabis on cancer patients (in layman's terms if possible) and show him that it's not a "devil drug". If he's suffering from cancer he may very well view things that have the potential to manage the pain and increase his appetite in a different light than he has before. Also let him know that there are various ways of using cannabis (vaping, eating, smoking, tinctures, THC pills etc.) and that he doesn't have to sit there with a joint in his hand! Perhaps he'd be interested if he knew nobody else would find about it, something possible if he doesn't have to smoke it.

As scout said though, don't sneak him anything. It's not right to do that to someone against their will, and he may very well end up very confused, angry and scared.

Let him know the benefits of cannabis, perhaps show him one of the Rick Simpson documentaries about his hemp oil and how it can help fight cancer and he just may come around! His generation were exposed to a huge amount of negative government propaganda about cannabis and its effects, so he may simply be opposed to it because he doesn't understand the reality of it.

Newbie discussion / Re: BTC Wallets
« on: May 15, 2013, 10:22 pm »
Hey guys, I was just wondering what kind of in between wallets you guys use to transfer your BTC to SR?

Thanks,
MasterKief

Hi MasterKief,

It actually doesn't matter what kind / how many 'in-between' wallets you use before transferring BTC to Silk Road as the blockchain keeps a record of all transactions, and it is quite a trivial matter indeed to have a piece of software trace the route that Bitcoin takes from one address to another.

The only thing that will really obfuscate the trail between the Bitcoin that you are sending and the Bitcoin that is received is a mixer / tumbler, something that actually swaps YOUR Bitcoin with the Bitcoin of others.

You can find more info on these by searching the forums for "BitcoinFog" and "blockchain.info mixer".

Please note that you may have to repeat the search a number of times as you will likely get the "Your last search was less than 5 seconds ago" error due to the forum seeing us all as coming from the same IP address.

Oh dear.. Very sorry to hear that, rojo. Please consider buying your Bitcoin somewhere other than Silk Road, or at least through one of the longtime, proven BTC exchangers. I hear very good things about Sugar Mama but I must stop short of recommending anyone due to the fact that they CAN up sticks and abscond with your money at ANY time.

Off topic / Re: Would you like to see Litecoin on SR?
« on: May 15, 2013, 10:04 pm »
wouldn't a benefit be that it is erasing the single thing Atlantis has that Silk Road doesn't?

That would be a benefit, yes, but I don't see Atlantis growing large enough to be a significant threat to Silk Road's market share; I don't even see it becoming large enough to be a real threat to Black Market Reloaded, though I could, of course, be completely wrong on that.

The current benefits of introducing Litecoin aren't big enough for it to be a need; and who knows, perhaps DPR doesn't want to do anything detrimental to Atlantis in its youth. This entire place is about something more than a marketplace - it is about freedom, and the more places that exist for people to go to means that if LE somehow managed to take down one or two of those places, there would still be more!

DPR is a freedom fighter of the digital age. Silk Road is a tool employed by him/her to effect change in the world we live in. With more tools - and perhaps more targets for LE, meaning their resources are spread more thinly - we can achieve more change.

I just messaged him asking if he can prove he sent it to my actual address and not just my city. Would like to try and work it out between us before automatically disputing it. I even just went through all my garbage this week (yeah nasty as hell) just to make sure I didn't accidentally throw it out but but no luck... I'll keep you guys updated on what happens or at least try... I'm leaving on vacation in a few hours.

If you wish to do this, I would recommend asking the vendor if they're willing to do it inside the resolution center. Things can get very messy when resolutions are attempted person-to-person; at least in the resolution center you can both be sure that things will be kept civil, and as factual as possible.

Silk Road discussion / Re: Need advice

Going to leave this open - after giving it more thought I don't actually see any *need* to have it locked. The denigration that was taking place of the vendor involved was what made me consider that the thread had served its original purpose and had degraded into something unneeded, but I can't justify locking it when attempting to balance that with my personal goal of ensuring freedom of speech, so it will be left open unless the original poster requests that it is closed.

Finally got my password reset/account back (it took 3 days in total which isn't too bad).

HOWEVER there's an even bigger fucking problem. All of my BTC is missing.

I checked my transaction history - I can see all the deposits listed (with details of the wallet it was coming from) and all the purchases (with details of the vendors I spent money on). The last transaction on the 12th (when I first contacted SR Support) shows the following:

withdrawal    {this is where you expect the details of wallet or vendor}        ฿-0.23    ฿0.00    May 12, 2013, 11:12 am UTC

I hope this is a security protocol on SR's side, otherwise it looks well sketchy.

I have PMed Support again to see what's going on.

Hi kimjongill,

Unfortunately this means that your account has been compromised - the most common cause of this is users entering their details into phishing sites; the ONLY site you should ever be entering your details into is:

silkroadvb5piz3r.onion

Please also remember that Silk Road will NEVER ask you for your PIN.

Other possible causes are having keyloggers / data loggers installed on your machine, or possibly accessing Silk Road through the onion.to proxy (as all keystrokes going through the proxy can be logged).

Please have your system thoroughly checked for security threats (keyloggers, rootkits etc.) and ensure that you are using a strong, complex passphrase and PIN. I would also avoid transferring Bitcoin to any Silk Road accounts you may have until you have ensured that your security is 100%.

Woahhh I just woke up, good thing you didn't lock it yet.

Man this blew up wayyyy out of proportions. I wasn't even mad or anything, its only $120. If it shows up, I will gladly pay you what I owe you. I just needed to check if I was doing the right thing by waiting, & you most likely would have won in resolution which is why I also found it odd.

I didn't mean any harm man =[ (hopefully I find this missing package)

You were absolutely doing the right thing, 100%! If a package does not turn up, always take it to the resolution center. Never finalise simply because a vendor asks you to if you do not physically have the order in your hands.

Would you like me to lock this thread?

Customer support / Re: Hacked Passphrase?
« on: May 15, 2013, 05:19 pm »
Thanks for the reply...

Quote
Whilst its highly unlikely that someone figured out your passphrase (if it was in any complex), it is a possibility.

My passphrase was fairly complex.

Quote
There is also a minor possibility that there is an issue with your login credentials on Silk Road's end.

Not sure what this means?

There is a small possibility that there is an issue validating your login details against the details stored on the Silk Road servers. This is unlikely, but possible if there is a technical fault.

Quote
If you have ever entered your PIN at login, that is what happened.

Certain this hasn't happened, as I'd read several warnings about this before even setting up my original account.

Please check your system for keyloggers / dataloggers and rootkits. There are many guides on how to do this on the clearweb.

Quote
You may be waiting a while for Support to get back to you due to a backlog;

That's fine.

Do you see any harm in loading BC's into my new account, and continuing to purchase? Or should I just stand pat until the issue with my original account gets sorted out?

Thanks again!

I would wait until I have checked my system completely for keyloggers etc.; if your system is clean (and your password / PIN are sufficiently complex) then sending Bitcoin to your new account should be just fine.

Posting here in order to ensure everything is seen in the support thread:

hello. no i have had this account for well over a year. ive logged in and out. ive logged on from different workstations. its not working for aome reason.  but bitinstant is checking into aomething right now bu if its ok would you get tthe ball rolling on having me a new one assigned .thano you

Please ensure you have installed the latest update for the Tor Browser Bundle - it was updated in the last few days. Perhaps a silly question but you're 100% certain that there is no 'get new address' link?!

The only ones capable of helping you in this situation would be SR Support as the forum moderators have no access to the administrative section of the site.

If the issue continues (and is not on BitInstant's end) you can message SR Support on the main site:
