Silk Road discussion / Re: Commission
« on: May 18, 2013, 09:14 pm »
Hey :)

Just wondering how much is the commission charge?

Thanks,
Moo x

Hi Enthused,

You can find the full Silk Road commission schedule here:
http://dkn255hz262ypmii.onion/index.php?topic=100160.msg702790#msg702790

The commission scale has been laid out on the forums a number of times but it always disappears in the haze of crazy posts! Here's an example from DPR's State of the Road Address:
http://dkn255hz262ypmii.onion/index.php?topic=8397.0

We also went to the Silk Road independent sellers to see what they thought an appropriate commission schedule would look like.  The average response looked like this:

15% of the first $10
11% of $10 - $50
8.14% of $50 - $250
5.6% of $250 - $1000
3.7% of $1000 - $5000

We looked at past sales data and our current and future revenue needs and were able to bring these numbers down even further:

10% of the first $50
8.5% of $50 - 150
6% of $150 - 300
3% of $300 - 500
2% of $500 - 1000
1.5% for everything over $1000

So taking DPR's fee scale, here is how a sale is broken down:

In a $300 sale, for example:

$50 is charged at 10% of the first $50, so $5 fee.
$100 is charged at 8.5% of the next $50 - $100, so $8.50 fee.
$150 is charged at 6% of the final $150 - $300, so $9 fee.

Total: $300.
Total commission: $22.50
Total paid to vendor for item: $277.50
Total paid to vendor for item, if hedging order (@ 4% hedging fee): $266.40

In a $1016 sale, for example:

$50 is charged at 10% from the $0 - $50 point, so $5 fee.
$100 is charged at 8.5% from the $50 - $100 point, so $8.50 fee.
$150 is charged at 6% from the $150 - $300 point, so $9 fee.
$200 is charged at 3% from the $300 - $500 point, so $6 fee.
$500 is charged at 2% from the $500 - $1000 point, so $10 fee.
$16 is charged at 1.5% from the $1000 and up point, so $0.24 fee.

Total: $1016.
Total commission: $38.74
Total paid to vendor for item: $977.26
Total paid to vendor for item, if hedging order (@ 4% hedging fee): $938.17

That post explains how much you get if you choose pre-commission, how much you get if you choose post-commission, how much you get if you decide to hedge, and what the customer will actually see on the listing itself depending on the option you choose.

He offered FE for free express, FE for priority or priority in escrow.  Everyone who attempted to used escrow received the same message as I did.  So the whole escrow isn't a real option (which would be disingenuous). That's a fact several other customers have verified, not disingenuous.  What do you call offering escrow as an option, but not allowing anybody to use it?

I also  have been a member for quite a while and have flawless stats.  And nobody who has FE has received so, yeah , he's a scammer.  Read the rumor mill and you will see similar stories.  It would be one thing if he claimed to sent the package, then I would understand waiting until resolution, but that's not the case.  I asked for him to cancel if he required FE and he read but no response.  SR is aware, that is why they have suspended the account.

What do I call offering escrow as an option, but not allowing anybody to use it? I call that a choice that a buyer has to make whether to deal with that vendor or not. Escrow is indeed a real option, as is evident by your use of it and refusal to FE (which I commend you for).

I did not say the vendor is not a scammer; in fact, what I said was:
Quote
He most likely was trying to scam you, but SR Support decisions must be made on verifiable facts, not conjecture.

SR Support have to conduct an investigation into the vendor's behaviour and must be 100% certain that scamming has occurred before suspending him. For instance, it may be the case that the person dropping off packages got busted, or the postal service became aware of a vendor's packaging method, or countless other possibilities. The vendor's account is suspended whilst these investigations take place.

So basically, SR wants it to go to resolution so they make the fees plus any increase in BTC's from hedging.

Do you honestly believe that is the case?! The process that is in place is there for a reason; it protects both buyers and sellers in the event that something goes wrong. If a vendor is suspended pending investigation and Silk Road cancels all their orders and returns the BTC to customers, but the investigation proves that the vendor did nothing wrong, then the vendor will be out of pocket through no fault of his own. You will not get special treatment simply because you feel a bit put out that you have to wait a few days to receive your refund.

Silk Road does not make any money on refunded orders when a vendor has been suspended. The buyer is refunded in full, and that refund does not affect the buyer's refund rate. Furthermore, Bitcoin's value fluctuates both up and down so your inference that Silk Road actually wants the order to go to resolution to make money on any (potential) increase in Bitcoin's value from hedging is ridiculous.

This might be last transaction on SR since it's so reactive and not proactive.

It is a free market; you are more than welcome to take your business elsewhere if you do not find Silk Road to be to your satisfaction, cabbagehead.

10 days fuuuuck thats way too long especially when it shouldnt even have to be that long because in reality it wasnt in transit it was processing still the vendor marked it as in transit... i think SR should help me out here there has to be something they can do.

"... in reality it wasnt in transit it was processing still the vendor marked it as in transit" - so you're saying that it was, indeed, marked as being 'in transit', yes? ???

And seriously, you think Silk Road should "help [you] out here"?! Silk Road is already protecting you by providing a trustworthy, reliable escrow service! There is nothing more that can be done apart from the process outlined in my previous post. Your case is no different than anybody else's - you will not get special treatment simply because you feel a bit put out that you have to wait a few days to receive your refund. The process that is in place is there for a reason; it protects both buyers and sellers in the event that something goes wrong. If a vendor is suspended pending investigation and Silk Road cancels all their orders and returns the BTC to customers, but the investigation proves that the vendor did nothing wrong, then the vendor will be out of pocket.

As it stands, you will NOT be out of pocket. The system is doing what it needs to do to keep all parties covered.

http://silkroaddrugs.wordpress.com/ got all links from there. I think I'm safe though since it said that the form has been reported for abuse, etc.

Yeah I went to those but I didn't forget my password, nor was it changed. I wanted to learn how to change it.

I actually just found out how though so it's all good.. account > settings ;P

Needless to say, you will have to either memorise or bookmark the real URL (silkroadvb5piz3r.onion) for future use. You are absolutely not safe as the phisher has your details the second you hit the 'log in' or 'ok' button. The " The form you submitted has been reported for abuse and we have disabled it. The information you entered has been discarded to protect you" comes up to lull you into a false sense of security, which has obviously worked in this case. Ensure you also change your PIN.

Please be more careful in future - you're very lucky that you managed to access your account using the real URL before the phisher had a chance to change your passphrase and PIN. If your account is compromised and your Bitcoin are removed there will be noting that Silk Road can do to help.

Customer support / Re: Account Hijacked
« on: May 18, 2013, 08:43 pm »
Yes, they attained my login details by use of a phishing url that was similar to SR true url. I know it was my mistake for not checking the url, but i was simple saying hijacked as in it is not me using my account. Thanks again for the reply

Ah okay, I just had to make sure that I clarified what had happened. You should memorise or bookmark the URL to prevent this from occurring again in future.

Again, Silk Road will never ask you for your PIN at login. Best of luck with the reset in any event!

Thread locked as resolved.

Silk Road discussion / Re: Support delays
« on: May 18, 2013, 08:39 pm »
There is a delay with SR Support, but my main issue is the lack of support from SR Support.  I made a purchase from a vendor in escrow.  The vendor marked the item in transit and then messaged me saying he would ship when I finalized.  I responded to cancel my order if it can't be done in escrow.  The vendor has been outed as a scammer and his account has been suspended.  I messaged SR Support with these details and asked to have my order cancelled.  The response was that the vendor's account has been suspended and they are currently working with the vendor.  I guess since BTC's are rising, there is no incentive to cancel since it becomes a loan they can make interest on.  It's a shame to see such indifference on SR Support's end.  Guess they want to wait until I can cancel so they get the fee plus the interest on my hedged BTC's.

Hi cabbagehead,

The process that must take place in such cases has been mentioned all over the forums recently; SR Support do NOT cancel orders. You must put the order into resolution when the option becomes available to you and request a full refund. Any refund given under circumstances where a vendor has been suspended will not affect your refund rate.

As you can see, there is full protection for buyers in cases such as this when they stay in escrow.

I understand hittheroad.  Try this one on for size.  I made a purchase in escrow.  Vendor marked in transit and then messaged me that he would ship it once I finalized.  I refused to finalize and wanted to stay in escrow and told the vendor to cancel the order if it could not remain in escrow.  No response from the vendor.   The vendor has now been outed as a scammer and SR suspended his account.  I messaged SR Support explaining the situation and asking them to cancel the order since the vendor admitted to not sending it unless it would be finalized first.  SR Support responded by saying the vendor's account is suspended and they are working with the vendor.  So basically they know he tried to scam me, I stuck to SR escrow protocol and they won't cancel the order.  Guess they are enjoying the profits of BTC's rise since my order is hedged.  I'm very disappointed in the lack of protection offered to customers here.

Hi cabbagehead,

If the vendor had 35+ transactions and had been selling here for one month or more then he was entitled to ask you to FE before sending. You were completely right not to, of course, but there is nothing in that particular action to suggest that the vendor "tried to scam [you]", so you are being rather disingenuous when you state:
"So basically they (SR Support) know he tried to scam me, I stuck to SR escrow protocol and they won't cancel the order."

He most likely was trying to scam you, but SR Support decisions must be made on verifiable facts, not conjecture.

Libertas, you need to start a tip bucket for yourself (If you don't have one already), your very nice to the newbies, and you keep answering the same questions over and over again, and politely :D

I wouldn't feel right accepting donations for my work here, sclerogal, but I greatly appreciate the sentiment. :) Besides, we were all new here once! :)

We have received confirmation from a couple of people that someone is posing a sugar mama under a little different user name... the real sugar mama account is on vacation....

dont do business with the poser they are scamming people left and right

ADMIN we need your help

Sugar Mama BTC is the user name Scam scam scam

There is nothing that administrators or moderators can do in this instance. Every member NEEDS to start taking responsibility for their own actions here. Do your due diligence before sending your money to an anonymous person over the internet!!!

This is not amazon.com. People need to stop treating it like it is.

And there is no user, neither on the forums nor on Silk Road, with the handle "Sugar Mama BTC".

Perhaps consider putting a link to your vendor page in your signature so people can find you more easily. :)

Hi tuppenceone2012,

Please see the SR Wiki entry here:

http://dkn255hz262ypmii.onion/wiki/index.php?title=Frequently_Asked_Questions#My_order_hasn.27t_arrived_or_it.27s_not_what_I_expected.

Simply click on the 'resolution' link when it becomes available. Any refunds issued when a vendor has been suspended will not count toward your refund stats.

Priority packages can sometimes take a week or more to arrive; if you don't receive it within 10 days from the date of ordering, take the order to resolution:

Newbie discussion / Re: Vendor bond bitcoin fluctuation
« on: May 18, 2013, 07:39 pm »
Is the vendor bond refunded in the bitcoin value you pay when you initially become setup as a vendor or is the bond pegged to the $ like some prices on SR so that the amount of bitcoin you are repaid converts back into the amount of $ you had to expend to purchase the bitcoins to pay the bond? Because the bond is ฿4.05 and if I buy that much to pay the bond and then the value of bitcoin crashes that could put me in a difficult spot and be a disincentive for me to become a vendor

Any help much appreciated

Hi Lakey,

Yes, the vendor bond is paid and refunded in BTC - you get the exact amount of BTC back that you paid in: if you pay ฿4.05 for the bond, you will receive ฿4.05 back.

I understand what you're saying regarding the value of Bitcoin crashing, but the opposite is also true. You stand to gain if it rises in value. When Bitcoin hit its recent high many vendors were receiving their bond back when it was valued at $2500+.

It's HIGHLY unlikely that Bitcoin's value will 'crash' during the time that it takes you to meet the requirements for receiving the bond refund. It has reached a point of relative stability so a drop of 50% or more is very, very unlikely.

I've looked all over for FAQs etc. but none of them tell me how to actually change my password/pin. :\

Hi dumbnoob,

The answers to these are in the very first section of the F.A.Q. on the SR Wiki.. ???

Please see the SR Wiki entries here:
http://dkn255hz262ypmii.onion/wiki/index.php?title=Frequently_Asked_Questions#I_forgot_my_passphrase.
http://dkn255hz262ypmii.onion/wiki/index.php?title=PIN

You will also need to read the following:
http://dkn255hz262ypmii.onion/wiki/index.php?title=Trust_and_phishing

Silk Road will NEVER ask you for your PIN unless you're making an order from the Shopping Cart page.

What site did you use to log in, out of interest?
