Newbie discussion / Re: Finalising early?
« on: May 19, 2013, 10:01 pm »So i've made my first purchase on SR from MrCronk (reputable ganj seller) and everyone seems to Finalise before they recieve the goods and everything runs smoothly. On his T's and C's he says that you must (god knows why) finalise early so I have done.
Any reasons why? I thought SR tried to stop sellers doing that?
cheers
This is a free market, and once vendors have reached 35+ transactions and been vending for one month or more, they are entitled to ask buyers to Finalise Early. However, Silk Road recommends against doing so as we cannot protect you if something goes wrong with the order once you have chosen to leave the safety of the escrow system.
If nobody FE'd here, nobody would be getting scammed. Please read the following entries in the SR Wiki:

Escrow
Our commitment is to total satisfaction for every purchase you make here. If your package never arrives or is not in the condition you expected, you may have a chance at a full or partial refund of the purchase price. Just click "resolve" next to your order. Our resolution center gives you total flexibility in working out a mutually agreeable outcome with your vendor, whether you want to request a full or partial refund, release payment to your vendor, or extend the time you wait for arrival. In the rare event that an agreement can't be made, Silk Road admins will be right there to mediate and investigate if necessary. The vast majority of orders are filled exactly as expected, but to avoid even the rare hang up, we strongly encourage you to read your vendor's feedback and ask questions of them ahead of time.
NEVER go around the escrow and pay a vendor directly. We will be totally unable to protect you in this event and the vendor will have much less motivation to serve you well. People HAVE been scammed this way. If a seller requests that you pay them directly, please let us know so we can address the situation.

I've already finalized my order, but am having problems.
Unfortunately that means payment has already been released to your vendor and we cannot offer support for that order anymore. You'll have to work out your issues with your vendor directly.

Always use the escrow system! This can't be stressed enough. 99% of scams are from people who set up fake vendor accounts and ask buyers to pay them directly or release payment before their order arrives. This behavior should be reported immediately. If you do choose to do this, we will be completely unable to help you in the event of fraud.

The old saying, “with freedom comes responsibility,” couldn't be more true here. You will find easy access to things that could get you in trouble with your authorities and are downright terrible for your health. So, just because you can, doesn't mean you should. However, I'm not your daddy and it's your job to judge what is good and bad for you. No one else can do that.
