Newbie discussion / Re: Finalising early?
« on: May 19, 2013, 10:01 pm »
So i've made my first purchase on SR from MrCronk (reputable ganj seller) and everyone seems to Finalise before they recieve the goods and everything runs smoothly. On his T's and C's he says that you must (god knows why) finalise early so I have done.

Any reasons why? I thought SR tried to stop sellers doing that?

cheers

This is a free market, and once vendors have reached 35+ transactions and been vending for one month or more, they are entitled to ask buyers to Finalise Early. However, Silk Road recommends against doing so as we cannot protect you if something goes wrong with the order once you have chosen to leave the safety of the escrow system.

If nobody FE'd here, nobody would be getting scammed. Please read the following entries in the SR Wiki:

Escrow

Our commitment is to total satisfaction for every purchase you make here. If your package never arrives or is not in the condition you expected, you may have a chance at a full or partial refund of the purchase price. Just click "resolve" next to your order. Our resolution center gives you total flexibility in working out a mutually agreeable outcome with your vendor, whether you want to request a full or partial refund, release payment to your vendor, or extend the time you wait for arrival. In the rare event that an agreement can't be made, Silk Road admins will be right there to mediate and investigate if necessary. The vast majority of orders are filled exactly as expected, but to avoid even the rare hang up, we strongly encourage you to read your vendor's feedback and ask questions of them ahead of time.

NEVER go around the escrow and pay a vendor directly. We will be totally unable to protect you in this event and the vendor will have much less motivation to serve you well. People HAVE been scammed this way. If a seller requests that you pay them directly, please let us know so we can address the situation.

I've already finalized my order, but am having problems.

Unfortunately that means payment has already been released to your vendor and we cannot offer support for that order anymore. You'll have to work out your issues with your vendor directly.

And the following from DPR's welcome page on the main site:

Always use the escrow system! This can't be stressed enough. 99% of scams are from people who set up fake vendor accounts and ask buyers to pay them directly or release payment before their order arrives. This behavior should be reported immediately. If you do choose to do this, we will be completely unable to help you in the event of fraud.

Read the forum and the wiki. They contain a wealth of information and many in our forum community are eager to help a new member with a respectful attitude.

Start small. Do a few small trades until you are comfortable with the process before throwing all of your Bitcoins at a big purchase.

The old saying, “with freedom comes responsibility,” couldn't be more true here. You will find easy access to things that could get you in trouble with your authorities and are downright terrible for your health. So, just because you can, doesn't mean you should. However, I'm not your daddy and it's your job to judge what is good and bad for you. No one else can do that.

Vendor name sent, thanks so much, sorry for posting this in 2 places, I wasn't sure where :0

I have no clue if they are actually using the .to links or not but the fact that the profile is has more than 5 links to other listings all ending in onion.to it freaked me out so

What a community here

No need to apologise! Thanks for bringing it to our attention; I've sent it up the chain. Nobody should be accessing Silk Road via onion.to, especially not vendors!

Thread locked as resolved.

Thanks for making the community aware of that, gotmilk. Even though you have, I know we're unfortunately going to be getting messages over the next 24 - 48 hours from vendors stating that they've been locked out of their accounts but they "definitely weren't phished." It's going to be a lllllong start to the week! :(

My fear is that this vendor is using onion.to links which are to my understanding like forwarding services that allow non tor users to access onion sites but not anonymously?

I really have no clue beyond what I've been told, "don't use onion.to links, just remove the .to"

I really would rather not give out the vendors name or anything, if a mod wants to know, happy to pm but I wouldn't go blasting someones name like that when its possible I am over reacting.

PM received, thank you DoctorFate. And you're not overreacting at all; this vendor is putting the safety of buyers at huge risk!

Thanks for letting us know about this!

Customer support / Re: suspended vendor account bullshit!!!
« on: May 19, 2013, 09:33 pm »
my account marthastewart was suspended saying I was fished when I use the same url for a long time saved on my computer and they said I had a key logger when nobody has used my computer or comes over to my house. This is bullshit! SR accept there was an error on your part and I want a refund on my account or it to be re activated now! So is SR guilty until proven innocent? sick of mods saying it had to be one way and accusing me when I did nothing to get fished or was key logged. Accept you guys made a mistake!

When we were helping you out you were nice as pie; now that it is evident that the error was on your end, you're screaming for blood and trying to blame anybody but yourself: "It was an SR error, the mods are lying" etc., etc.

The FACT of the matter is that you did not take adequate security precautions, either technologically or socially. This is your own doing. If it were a Silk Road error I can assure you that more than 10 inexperienced vendors would have been affected, and DPR would have made a statement about it.

EDIT: Thread locked as resolved. This has been explained to you in multiple threads, marthastewarthereforyou.

My apologies if this isn't support worthy, just looking for some advice.

I was about to place an order when I noticed almost all the links on this vendors profile page ended in onion.to and I was wondering if I there was something I should do like message them about it?

Any issue you're having is support worthy, DoctorFate! :)

A vendor using the onion.to proxy instead of a dedicated Tor client is a very serious matter indeed; they are putting themselves and their customers at huge risk! Please let me know the name of the vendor in question and I will pass it up the chain to administrators.

Title says it all.

I was going to order something from this vendor then I saw almost all the SR links on the profile page are .onion.to

Had the item in my cart and was doing a last minute check through to make sure I'd adhered to everything, then I saw all the links to almost every other listing all ended in .onion.to

If this vendor is not using tor and just using .onion.to links that bad right?

Very bad! Please name and shame - the community needs to know who this is; or you can PM me the vendor's URL if you wish. I mean if they're not even taking the most basic precaution to protect their own anonymity, imagine how little they're doing to protect their buyer's details! :o

I need to add nothing to scout's post apart from one rebuttal to one of your points:

Out of the 5 vendors that had their accounts compromised in the same week as you, 1 of them admitted that they definitely entered their details into a phishing site, and another admitted that it was 'highly likely' that they entered their details into a phishing site.

That leaves 3 vendors, all of whom are relatively new and seemingly inexperienced, who swear there's no chance they allowed their information to be compromised and that "SR fucked up". No large / experienced vendors were compromised over the two weeks that we see people getting phished, apart from albionessentialols - and funnily enough, he readily admitted that he was phished and accidentally gave his credentials away by logging in at the incorrect URL.

If "SR fucked up" then everyone's accounts would have been compromised; as you can plainly see, that is not the case. Please take some responsibility for your inadequate security measures.

Does there exist a better version of hidden wiki?

Well there is the Cleaned Hidden Wiki but you should NOT trust that to bring you to Silk Road. You need to memorise the silkroadvb5piz3r.onion address.

You can find the Cleaned Hidden Wiki here:
http://3suaolltfj2xjksb.onion/hiddenwiki/index.php/Main_Page

Again, do NOT trust ANY links that you find for Silk Road anywhere. Learn the correct URL and trust only yourself.

And how do i know if http://silkroj4o6v34zil.onion/index.php is a phising website? I found it on hidden wiki: http://kpvz7ki2v5agwt35.onion/wiki/index.php/Main_Page

The only active Silk Road URL is:
silkroadvb5piz3r.onion

All other sites are phishing sites. Never trust any links on the Hidden Wiki as they can be edited by virtually anybody.

When did you place the orders? The phisher may have contacted the vendors you ordered from asking them to cancel so the money would be returned to the account. However, if they do not have your PIN then your BTC should be safe.
