Customer support / Re: questions about a resend/refund
« on: May 21, 2013, 11:23 pm »
Hi,
The vendor in question had some packages intercepted, including mine. He could be unlucky or he isn't capable of making a good stealthy package (, he's quite new on SR).
Anyway, I can get a 50% refund or a resend.  A.t.m. I'm not sure what to do?

1. When I ask for a resend, because my package didn't arrive, do I have to FE for the resend?
1b. What happens if the resend doesn't arrive, due to another interception?

2. When I ask for a refund, who decides what the refund % is?

Thanks in advance.

Hi 0BMX,

Please read the following section of the SR Wiki:
http://dkn255hz262ypmii.onion/wiki/index.php?title=Frequently_Asked_Questions#Order_questions

We recommend that buyers never, ever FE. Work everything out inside the resolution center. If the buyer refuses to do a resend unless you FE, and you choose to do that, Silk Road will not be able to protect you as the resend will not be held in escrow due to the fact that it won't be a paid order going through the Silk Road system. The vendor will simply be sending out your product again - there will be no trace of this on Silk Road's end, nor any way to confirm it.

If his package is "intercepted" again, or otherwise fails to reach you, you will be left with nothing at all. Again, Silk Road can only protect you on orders within escrow. When you FE, you are willfully removing the protection that escrow provides.

The administrator decides what the refund % will be, and takes all the evidence at his/her disposal into account when deciding the rate; that is all contained in the link I provided above.

Major props to scout for getting the ball rolling - they couldn't post it themselves as they are currently offline, but would certainly have done so immediately upon receipt of DPR's approval.

Locking this thread - please move all discussion to the sticky, or to the thread link contained within it.

Silk Road discussion / Re: Mod Selection
« on: May 21, 2013, 11:03 pm »
Just wanted to get a discussion going on this. So far I am extremely happy with our mods. DPR and staff have done a great job picking people who are seemingly educated, unbiased, and ever present - probably the 3 most important characteristics for a moderator.

Now, it got me thinking, how did he find them? In other words, I'm curious if the current mods were approached by DPR or if they approached him. I'm also curious to know what the plans are for the future. As SR continues to grow, will more mods be added?

The whole behind the scenes part of SR is really interesting. I wonder how many people work in the resolution center. I wonder how much they get paid, if anything.

Its gotta be hard to run a black market... anyone with knowledge (looking at you, mods) care to share some of the inner workings of the Road?

Thank you very much, HEATFan! It really means a lot when we see other community members express their support for us! :)

I wish I could answer some of your questions! However, as you can probably imagine, DPR likes to play their cards close to their chest - and with very good reason. Site security is paramount to protecting the freedom that Silk Road has returned to us by breaking the shackles of government regulation. Discussing that security with others would likely not be in the site's best interest. This forum needs Silk Road, and Silk Road needs this forum; the latter evolved from the former, and they have now both evolved yet again to their current state - a community - whereby they enjoy an amazing symbiotic relationship. Our ever-growing community is, in my opinion, the first real step that a mass of people have taken on the journey to winning back personal freedom from government interference in generations.

Regarding the site itself, the only inner working of the Road that I can share with you is that I cannot share any inner workings of the Road. :P

I'm not 100% sure how many - if any - of the questions above DPR would like us to answer, and were we to answer them we could not be sure if we are giving 100% correct information, as in a number of cases, DPR is the only one privy to such information. That is how it should be, and that is how it needs to be if our community is to be able to continue to grow, and continue stoking the embers of the fires of freedom that burn inside each and every one of us as a result.

Needless to say the crew do an incredible job at keeping the good ship Silk Road sailing through waters that are often fraught with danger. Where she'll end up, nobody knows, but it doesn't always matter how sturdy a ship you've got for the journey ahead of you - with the right crew you can traverse waters and frontiers that you never imagined possible. The fact that we have a sturdy ship, the right crew, and a community that supports her wherever she goes, well.. the possibilities are endless!

Hi all,

Many vendors have received the following message from somebody going by the name of Simonclark81 / AaronTurner71:

Quote
Hi, I'm not sure if you are the right person or not, but I live near to you and have noticed you making quite a few deliveries to the mailbox, some of which I managed to get on video... search for 'silk road **** ****' on www.********.us and click on the the first video and you will be able to see.

This is not a threat, I am just trying to pre warning you to be more careful when mailing things. (and maybe send someone else to the mailbox instead of yourself) Although I wouldn't say no to a free sample :)

P.S If it is not you in the video, then you can ignore this

Simon / Aaron

I have edited the description and link in order to prevent anyone here from falling into this trap. If you receive this message, please delete it immediately. Please do not follow the link if you see it posted elsewhere.

Going to the site included in the message will automatically run a Java applet that either attempts to "phone home" - sending your IP address to a third party, thereby de-anonymising you - or attempts to download / run some malware that could compromise your system and would more than likely contain a keylogger / datalogger which could steal your Silk Road login information and PIN, if entered.

Discussion of the message in question and what it may be attempting to accomplish can be found here:
http://dkn255hz262ypmii.onion/index.php?topic=161802.msg1151537#msg1151537

A very helpful member, astor, has confirmed the following:
That is confirmed malware. I just spoke to someone who visited that site, actually ran the Java, and now multiple anti-virus programs detect malware on his computer where there was none before.

Now to determine whether it's LE or some random asshole who wants to install keyloggers to steal account credentials, or possibly enumerate the IP addresses of vendors and blackmail them.

EDIT: astor has just given us the following update:

This is the exact malware on that site. It's a Trojan downloader:

https://www.virustotal.com/en/file/35970e91c4d3364f8b05f5b40d892224084c7fc207af4db8165ebf6ca9bd5357/analysis/

The checksums on the Client.jar file are the same.

AVG has also detected rootkits in my VM.

On Windows XP, the files ntoskrnl.exe and hal.dll get infected.

Again, please do NOT visit the site linked in the message, nor follow any instructions in it. We recommend that you delete it immediately should you receive it.

I placed an order with a seller on the 19th. He sent a message the next day stating he had gotten robbed and is sorry but has to cancel the order. OK no problem go ahead. So when do I get my refund? The order still says processing and has not been canceled. Does it take a certain amount of time to do so or is he just dragging his feet. I did not FE so money is in escrow so not worried about it but do I need to do anything or just wait on him?
thanks

Hi changemonger,

A vendor has 4 days to process your order; the option to cancel will become a clickable link when that 4 day (96 hour) period is up if they have not marked it 'in transit' by that time, and you will receive your Bitcoin back immediately. Please be aware that if the order was hedged you will receive back the USD amount (in Bitcoin) that the item cost, minus the ~4% hedging fee that is charged on all hedged transactions.

Its not a must, but if you will be relaying anything incriminating, id say use pgp.

Privenote is not secure.

^This.

I do not open Privnote messages that I receive. I have a personal policy that any messages that anybody wishes to send me in private must be encrypted with both my own and DPR's PGP keys. Regardless of that, all PMs that I receive are kept confidential and nothing from them will be released on the main forums without the sender's permission unless it is a community-critical issue.

This is an attempt by somebody (possibly LE) to de-anonymise people through the use of JavaScript. Absolutely do NOT click on that link!!!

Newbie discussion / Re: How long till btc show in my wallet?
« on: May 21, 2013, 09:14 pm »
Newbie question.

About to make my first purchase, got my wallet address, sent the coins and have six confirmations on my side but not showing on sr wallet. Just curious if this is a human intervention thing or automated.

I did try searching but every time I tried: Your last search was less than 5 seconds ago. Please try again later.

I looked through the first few pages here and checked over on cust service and didn't see it mentioned.

Hi Paradiselost,

Libertas, alright man. What's the name of your manager and how can I expect to hear from him?
Regarding FE for new vendors. That's fine with me. Guess I'll just remove my high value listings.

I reported it up this morning so Vendor Support should be in touch with you in the near future.
In the meantime, please re-read the Seller Contract and Seller's Guide.

Regarding the above, I was simply trying to steer you in the right direction as you were doing things incorrectly. Though there has obviously been some miscommunication in this thread, if you have any problems in future you are more than welcome to PM me about them and I will do my best to help you with them.

Thanks for the good advise :-)

I found that Btc Buyer here on this possibly-respectable listing:
https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Selling_bitcoins
But I do not trust it and dont plan to send coins unless respected folks stand up for them. They do have irreversible options but no escrow safety. Very very risky, I know.

Vendor roundtable:
I think I met all the requirements before applying for access a month of so ago. I have heard it can take a while. Not too worried about it.

Indeed - check it out on the bitcointalk.org forums and see if there's any mention of it. You can access bitcointalk.org through Tor.

Regarding the Roundtable, have you messaged Vendor Support on the main site requesting access?

Legit or scam ?

 "WeBuyBitcoins"
http://jzn5w5pac26sqef4.onion/index.php

Anyone tried them? Have not found any threads mentioning them in the forum.

I tried asking this in rumourmill without response. I'd ask in the vendor roundtable but my access request from a month or so ago has not been responded to, as far as I can tell.

They advertise that they're selling an irreversible good/service (Bitcoin) for a completely reversible method of payment (PayPal); that is enough to state that they are quite obviously a scam. Whatever you do, do not give them your money.

Regarding gaining access to the Vendor Roundtable, you need to follow the procedures set out below:
http://dkn255hz262ypmii.onion/wiki/index.php?title=Vendor_roundtable

Quote
Vendor roundtable

The Vendor roundtable is a private message board on the Silk Road forum for vendors to discuss issues in private. To qualify for access to the board, you must meet the following requirements:

You must have received a bond refund.
Your forum username must be identical to your vendor username
You must keep a link to your vendor page in your forum signature

When you've met these criteria, message Vendor Support and they will give you access.

Thanks Libertas.  I wasn't threaten.  I had a question since this is a sticky subject not on the wiki for us newbies.  I'm pretty sure you know the vendor I have in question and it's correct to say that Vendor is active with other products.  I'm pretty sure I'm not the only resolution case for this one.

I'm not sure who you might be talking about but I would advise you to keep all communications within the resolution center - don't communicate with the vendor directly regarding the resolution.

Best of luck with it in any event, and never let a vendor intimidate you. 99.99% of vendors are great folks and wouldn't ever even dream of doing that but we're here to help if that ever does occur.

Newbie discussion / Re: Question about item marked "Processing"
« on: May 21, 2013, 05:07 pm »
How long can an item I purchased be marked "processing" before I get my bitcoin back? A very reputable vendor has gone MIA and none of his customers are receiving their orders. None marked in transit, all "Processing".

Hi MeatMittens,

As stated by others above, a vendor has 4 days (96 hours) to ship your order - if they do not process it within that time-frame you will have the option to cancel.
