I doubt you will find much lower than $100 a month. $500 a year is more like a high end VPS than a low end dedicated server. Prices for not offshore not anonymous servers are substantially lower but $500 a year is still pretty low for dedicated.

The host is very unlikely to find illegal content on the server, most of them will not even glance at what you are hosting unless they get abuse complaints, so unless someone finds the IP to file an abuse complaint there is a near zero chance of illegal things on your server being discovered. At least this has been my experience with hosting providers. I always host offshore on dedicated server though.

If you want to use a diary I suggest you protect your very personal information such as passwords and order ID's with an old fashioned pen and paper cipher.

One of my favourite books on this topic is Simon Singh's "The Code Book" which I have made available for download at http://utovvyhaflle76gh.onion/sTORage/vlad1m1r/books/The%20Code%20Book%20%2D%20Simon%20Singh.epub

Probably the most secure one is the book cipher where you can choose a key text such as an essay or book and then write down messages to yourself by numbering the words in the book. I have posted about this elsewhere on the forums if you're interested.

If each word corresponds to a single number it is just a substitution cipher and very weak to frequency charts and a lot of other attacks.

just a bit suspicious for someone to be all like "i'm going to kill myself because I can't go to jail!!! I will be gone from SR, it was nice knowing you all!" and then being all like "yeah nothing illegal on me, I am totally fine, only reason I was so upset is because my friend is in a coma, I am back now!" a few days later. 

Kind of suspicious that you went from wanting to kill yourself because you thought you were going to jail to not having ever faced any charges because you had nothing illegal on you.

It doesn't matter even WPA passwords are no different than SHA-256 passwords, the only difference there is the amount of time it takes to see if your guess was correct, when you have to make billions of trillions of guesses it doesn't matter if you can guess and confirm as correct/incorrect hundreds of billions of passwords a second. The article he linked to said they cracked passwords up to six characters in 45 minutes, I don't know where the fuck he is getting 13 character passwords can be cracked from. a purely randomly generated 13 character ascii password is as secure as a 91 bit encryption algorithm that can only be broken by brute force.
