What happened to the final thread on CP to declutter all others thread? And what kind of amphetamine is this guy on that causes him to type out page long tirades about the merits of child porn on a weekly basis? GOD DAMN.

Dude, you are so boring, pretty much every one of your posts is self-aggrandisement, self-pity, or just bullshit. Not once did kmfkewm write "tirades about the merits of child porn", which doesn't even make sense, you don't write tirades on the merits of things.

While child rapists, sadists and the like are monstrous, most people don't hate paedophiles for that reason. You hate them because you're allowed to hate them. It's socially acceptable, for pretty much everyone, to isolate, dominate, and subjugate paedophiles. They are, in this modern pack culture, the runt, the one that everyone is above in the heirarchy, the one everyone can attack when feeling weak and powerless.

Stigma's also a big factor. You all rabidly attack anyone with who doesn't toe the party line, immediately shutting them down by saying they must be a paedophile. It's not very different to the way homosexuals, who were the whipping dogs not so long ago, and their heterosexual defenders were treated. I will make it clear that I'm not equating homosexuality with paedophilia. But I am saying there are definite similarities in "normal" societies response to them. Which is to say society has a standard, brutal response to the marginalised.

Good on kmfkewm for once again being a voice of thoughful reason, someone who deeply considers issues, I know you don't give a shit what these wankers think about you, keep writing, you and Astor are my favourite posters.

Groovy Bruce, good luck with your shitty benzo business, seems to be booming mate.

Holy ad hominem Batman it looks like we got ourselves a pederast. In all seriousness he doesn't sound like a boy fucker, and is one of the most knowledgeable posters here. But nobody really wants to discuss pedophiles here and I disagree with him in this regard. Pedophiles are picked on and reviled for a reason. Even criminals look down upon them and someone needs to be at the bottom of the pecking order. If it ties up FBI resources, look at CP, by all means. Just don't expect to be able to type out an articulate reply or defense on a forum in a special housing jail unit because crackheads and other social failures plan on choking you to death with a towel or treating you like a victimized child.

Pedophiles are picked on and reviled for a reason, I cannot argue with that. The primary reason being that the media has made them equal to child molesters in the eyes of the general public, the secondary reason being that humans have a tendency to hate people who are not the same as they are, and pedophiles are a pretty small percentage of the population. The primary reason they hate ephebophiles I am not sure considering all evidence points to the majority of men being ephebophiles, probably it has something to do with the media casting such people as deviant sexual predators. In most of the world ephebophiles are not despised at all or even made into criminals, I am not sure what is so special about USA, UK and Australia that they want to play pretend.

Sending people who look at illegal pictures to be choked to death by crackheads in prison is extremely cruel and barbaric. In the future people will look back at today and the mass hysteria and primitive thinking of our times will be studied much how we study the Salem Witch Trials and similar.

What is wrong with sadists? It is not their fault that suffering brings them pleasure. As long as they do not cause others to suffer I don't care about them either.

This is why you must post a ten page disclaimer that you are not a pedophile before talking about anything related at all to it. People do it all the time, anything about CP they feel a compulsion to say they are against it, even if it is hardly relevant to the topic they must post their disclaimer letting us know they are not pedophiles.

I think it was Jacob Appelbaum who also said if you want to censor CP you are a fucking fascist.

Well, if you have a problem with Applebaum, (IDK if you are being sarcastic), and he is responsible for developing and launching Tor, then maybe you should leave. Or join your local law enforcement and hunt him down like a dog and stick him in prison with Manning.

I have no problem with Appelbaum I am on the same page as he is.

My bad. I had you confused with the OP.

These idiots want to go hunting down CP, they might end up on a clearnet site and get the exit node operated busted, or something.

Or even worse they could bust people whose only crimes were arranging pixels in forbidden patterns 0_0

thanks astor - you always provide good info.
in terms of physical isolation, my own solution has been to use a 2nd laptop, and it is used for nothing but SR.
do not load google on it. access SR only thru the cable connection. do not link with wi-fi.
as for simplicity, have your computer tech remove all the bloatware possible.
download nothing except updates for firefox and Tor. always create a new folder for Tor.
keep those passwords secure, fresh, and convoluted.
our business on SR is an important expression of our values, and lifestyle.
love and respect yourself, protect your community as would guard a small child.

That is not what is meant by the technical term isolation.

And if you have a SSD definitely do Secure Erase and consider throwing your drive out as well since Secure Erase doesn't actually work on all SSD.

You can download a program such as Eraser (CLEARNET WARNING: http://eraser.heidi.ie/) to securely wipe files one at a time too.

People should probably stop suggesting programs that wipe single files or free space. Although this may possibly be better than nothing, it is likely going to leave tons of forensic traces, especially on Windows. The only way to rest easy is to do an actual total drive wipe with something like Secure Erase. I suggest using Secure Erase followed by one pass with random data from DBAN. Then you can feel very confident that none of your data will be recovered. If you delete individual files you will need to worry about all kinds of possible forensic trace evidence being left in various places around your operating system. It just isn't secure to rely on single file overwriting tools, and in some cases it is even worse than others. On Windows single file overwrite is just not secure from forensics, people have been busted in the past based entirely off of trace evidence even when incriminating files were completely overwritten.

It's interesting how there has been a very noticeable increase in the number of people asking about secure data erasure since the FH exploit.

Maybe that's just a coincidence. Certain kinds of security questions seem to come in waves. We may get a dozen threads about VPNs in a week and then nothing about VPNs for a month. However, this is probably not a coincidence.

Haha I noticed the same thing, everybody is wiping their stash of jailbait.

What do you mean by virtual air-gapped?

I just meant isolated I shouldn't have said air-gapped since that actually means isolated such that there is  a complete lack of an attackable path to it from the internet. Virtualization used for isolation of GPG private key simulates air gaps but it isn't as secure. Qubes allows for storing GPG private keys and plaintexts in an isolated domain but it still has a path to it if the hackers can break out of the virtualization. On the other hand, running GPG on a machine without any attack path from the internet to it is a real air gap.

The best is probably to have two machines for encryption. Machine 1 has your private key on it and is used for decrypting messages, it can have ciphertexts from the internet brought over to it via one time use CD's (so can be infected), but never has any outgoing patch to the internet (so cannot phone home). Machine 2 is used for encrypting messages, it can have ciphertexts sent from it via one time use CD's (so can phone home) but it cannot have anything brought to it by media that has accessed the internet (so cannot be infected).

Your private key will be completely protected. The only way an attacker could compromise your plaintexts is if they hack you via a public GPG key somehow (which you must load to be able to encrypt messages to people), and then configure your system to somehow send out the information they are interested in, perhaps by screwing with your PRNG so they can always determine the session key of your outgoing ciphertexts.

Security / Re: Fake ID PO Box Facial Recognition

It wouldn't hurt to change your ears a little bit as well. Pretty much make minor changes to the position of all of your facial features and you should be pretty well protected from facial recognition, since it primarily looks at the distance between all of your facial features.

I did not think facial recognition software used your ears.  Am I remembering incorrectly?

I think it can but I don't know if it usually does or not.

changing your mac address is only useful if you connect to a wireless network (or data network) you are not supposed to, or connect to TOR via a free wireless network at a cafe or whatever.

You guys relies the mac address is only known between the local LAN right ? so the router and other devices in the local lan can see what your MAC is.
Your ISP doesn't know what your devices MAC is... nor do websites you access.
The IP address is the only thing transmitted end to end (obviously NAT will change the IP but you get what I mean)... not the MAC.. :)

Some of you have really good ideas but I think your over thinking it abit to much... and I'm sure someone will come back saying "you can never be to careful" but if you actually have a fairly good understanding of networks and security you'd relies alot of the stuff suggested is point.

Hitch my comments aren't directed at you!! more so everyone else with there overkill ideas like running vm in vm in vm in vm in vm in vm to stop dns leaking.. which you can easily stop anyways hehe.

hmm I didn't mean to come off sounding harsh, its just some people can inadvertently create a system which isnt quite as secure as they think by implementing 10000000 diff things, which is a shame as they are trying to do the right thing.

These rankings seem to be biased towards systems that maximise security for individuals who will predominantly be committing their offences from a single location and/or using the same network repeatedly. More bluntly, people sitting at home ordering their drugs to be delivered to their door ;) While the set-ups you've described are brilliant, they're also involved and unwieldy, inelegant.

I prefer Tails as not only is it a secure OS, but it's a means of encouraging secure behaviour. Used as recommended, the lack of persistent entry guards isn't really an issue. Used as recommended, I believe, tor bridges may be less safe, at best redundant, as you would want to randomise them as much as possible, also. Spoof your mac address, briefly access  random networks  to conduct your business, ram wiped, away you go. Easy as... :)

Isolation isn't primarily to stop DNS leaks, it just does that as well. It is primarily to prevent hackers from getting your real IP address. Also, spoofing MAC address can be useful in this situation as well, look at the FH attack their malware gathered MAC addresses to be able to identify the individual machine that went to FH. It isn't only a concern about MAC address leaking to the wireless router but also a concern about remote attackers hacking in and grabbing it.

Subbing.

Does anyone know if the code will include a backdoor? Or is it too early to tell? I'm getting bad vibes from Zerocoin; sounds like a trap for the government to monitor all BTC transactions.

The government already can monitor all BTC transactions, that is why we need Zerocoin.
