Title: Victim of Phishing Site
Post by: arsenal42 on March 03, 2013, 04:01 am
Apparently I meandered to a phising site that looked similar to SR, and after I found my way back to the real thing (after failing to log in repeatedly), I found that all of my bitcoins were withdrawn. Is there any way to get them back or remedy the sitaution?

Sorry you were phished, but the coins are gone now.

Next time, always make sure you are NOT accessing SR from a link you've found elsewhere.  Try to memorize it.

This seems to be happening a lot more just recently, you should NEVER trust the links on the hidden wiki.

AND DONT PUT YOUR 4 DIGIT PIN ! ESPECIALLY ON THE LOG-IN PAGE .....  You should never need to use your pin unless your sending money or making a order....

what about that site Bitswing.com?

it claims to not need any personal information to purchase bitcoins, yet makes you fill out personal information.

a guy keeps spamming the address on these forums with half price bitcoin promises.

any legitimacy to this?  anybody know?

The blatantly obvious span posts on the forums are all scams, use your common sense if someone is offering cut price bitcoins it clearly isn't legitimate.

DO NOT USE THE LINKS ON THE HIDDEN WIKI!!!!!

I'm reading so many posts from people who have fallen for this recently it's getting ridiculous.

They just got ME! :'(

I'm coming up on a year on SR, and I get burned still!!!

They were linked with paypal, so I took the bait. I just reported them. - I'll probably have my paypal account suspended for attempting to buy btc. I hear that's a "big no-no"

Yeah, I can't believe I let myself get burned too. I recently had to replace all my bookmarks (I use Liberte Linux) and when I tried to log into S/R address I found there was another box for the users pin number and an explanation that this was a "security precaution to protect against recent hacking attempts." That set off alarm bells but the page looked legit, even the address was believable. Anyways, they got me for $82... Could have been worse because I had just made a rather large purchase; that $82 was what was left of the original btc deposit.

Now my problem is that the phishers changed my pin number. Does anyone know how I can reset it? According to the support staff there are instructions on the FAQ page. Can someone direct me to this page? I'm too retarded to find it on my own.

A lot of people have gotten burned by that site. I wish there was a way to help people who fell victim to that scam site.

What would really help is if people read the wiki and researched the forums before trying to place orders. If you have a look in the newbie sub forum you will just see the same questions being asked over and over so clearly a lot of people are not making any effort to educate themselves before steaming in. I made one order before I started using the forums when I first found SR then I researched the shit out of the place. There are a frighteningly large number of newbies stumbling around SR blindfolded seemingly incapable of educating themselves before engaging in what is a potentially very high risk activity that could fuck their lives up or deprive them of their liberty.

I just cannot fathom how some people can be so blasé about things  :-\

I agree 100%.  People are going to a site to engage in illegal activity  turning over hundreds of dollars sometimes more without thinking.

There was a point where I thought the sub forum could evolve into a great intro for people. Hasn't worked out that way.  :(

I am a member of a few forums and even a senior member of a few. I was always noob friendly but wow here, umm, let's just say I can see why some hero members want to impale themselves on a sharp object. Lol.

Geez, people could not only loose money but their freedom if they step wrong.

I have created a new sticky thread in the newbie sub forum re this issue, hopefully this will help to reduce the number of people who are falling for this scam.
