It doesn't look like the spam is being cleaned up since i've been online today ( a few hours so far ) and i want to be able to do something about it! I msgd Nomad earlier about making me a mod but he's still offline.
-
It's not that bad . Just a few here and there. I think they do a pretty good job.
I think Nomad is not a moderator anymore. His signature line says so, check it out In one of his posts .

A few here and there? It looked pretty hectic a few hours ago. Ok i didn't see his sig before i pm'd him.
Either way i want to play a part in the forum other than my usual drivel. The forum was plastered in spam earlier and it seemed like no one was around to stop it from happening. I would like to be in a position to do just that.

I, for one, was on from 9am until 3:30am yesterday ... that's 18+ hours ... I deleted all the spam that came in during that time, but none of us can be online 24/7. I think 18/7 is pretty damn good. I'm back on now and will delete it.

Somebody's gotta do something about this. Seriously. Nomad's either had it and leaving for good this time, or just isn't finished expressing his resentment at getting so little in return for all of his hard work yet.
How the fuck can anybody expect moderators to do 18 hours of unpaid volunteer time? This isn't viable. It hasn't been for what seems like 2 months, give or take.

Yes big props to scout for pulling "double shifts" pretty much!
I missed the majority of the spam fiasco due to being absent for a couple of months and when i came back here the place seemed like it had turned to shit while i was away :( Where'd all the love go? Now it's just a mess of spammers, scammers, newbs and trouble makers.. Even the mods i seen around back then have packed up and fucked off..

Not sure exactly what the state of things with nomad is ... I understand his frustration though. 18+ hours a day here, unpaid, and we mostly just get abused by new members, or criticized for the 6 hours we AREN'T here. And when I say 18+ hours, I'm talking about 18+ hours glued to the forums just reloading and reloading and reloading to catch spam / scams. I'm grateful for the opportunity to help the community this way, but I don't think some people realize the amount of time that goes into it.
I'm sure that eventually, DPR will appoint more mods to help, but it's difficult for him to determine who will or won't go rogue.

*Raz enters the room, looks around half amused, and coughs politely, quietly thinking....... yeah, that's the kind of attitude that has people thinking real phucking hard about putting their hand up to help out either modding or spam-busting...... thanks for the laugh* ::)
[Edit. sorry, this was a reference to guru. no one likes that kind of shit. i have referenced this but b/c a post of mine was pulled 2 days ago for standing up for nomad i feel i can't really be explicit as it will happen with this post as well. not having a go at you scout, did not mean i was laughing at you....] :-\

??? I don't think I was being discouraging in that statement.

If you don't want to moderate don't volunteer for the job, these forums are controversial at the best of times so you should know what you are getting yourself into before accepting the job

I don't have a problem with the forums being controversial. DPR has instructed us not to delete threads/posts unless they are spam or scams. I knew what I was getting into, but the number of moderators went from 4 to 2, so I'm explaining why there are times when the spam builds up. And I said I was grateful for this opportunity - but that it requires a lot of time. I don't mind the time it takes, but it does bug me when people act as though we should be here 24 hours a day.

Well it sure as hell is not rewarding. It is certainly selfless to volunteer for modding or spam-busting but I wouldn't expect offers to start coming in by the bucket-load and I'm pretty sure I don't have to explain that fully, and if I do, then I won't anyway.

Scout- you are doing a good job... but... on a burn-out pace. Why is there not more moderators on SR? It seemed before they were more mods present on several area of the forum (I'm not inferring you aren't putting time and energy by any means..) I find it odd that DPR would pair back resources
-
I think they are doing a good job. I barely notice the spamers anymore.
Only 2 mods on a form this active?
You are doing a great job so don't take stuff personally. Being a mod is at times a thankless job.
No one likes the new section but they will get over it and see why it was necessary and it is working. Post quality down there is even improving.

Fair enough, maybe instead of asking for coin donations you should ask for amphetamine donations instead....

What does DPR do with all his massive escrow money? He can't pay mods? Guess Agorists are the cheapest people on the planet.
On Russian crime forums when you're mod you get let in on all the best ops, cards, logins and the admins throw money and freebies to you all the time. Otherwise you're like fuck this circle jerk hassle and the place is overrun with scams and spam
