There has never been anyone as good at resolving conflicts as I am. I can deal with the most Irate of customers, 5 years as a customer service rep for a popular computer company has helped me not care about the verbal insults that are thrown my way.

But sadly I have a feeling those positions are already filled :(

I deal with the goddamn customers so that the engineers don't have to!  I have people skills!  I am good at dealing with people! Can't you understand?  What the hell is wrong with you people?!

It was a "Jump to Conclusions" mat. You see, it would be this mat that you would put on the floor... and would have different CONCLUSIONS written on it that you could... JUMP TO.  :D

fair play you make some good points. this is not an attack on your way of life just a question, probably from a point of ignorance.

bizarre....I mean to me a man who has handled all sorts of weaponry while in the middle east just cant see why any civilian needs an AR15 or any auto, semi auto - endex.

I think our yank cousins would say that "need" doesn't have anything to do with whether a thing should be legal or not.  Lets face it.  Who "needs" a sports car?  If my American brother, who has committed no felonies, wants an AR15, then who is there to say he can't have one?  After the early American colonials broke from England, those same colonials recognized that without their right to keep and bear arms they would not have been able to throw off the oppressive foreign government and won their freedom and self determinism.

A few years have passed since the constitution of the United States was written, but I have heard Americans argue many times that the purpose of the Second Amendment remains the same: personal ownership of firearms is necessary for the security of a free state.  The primary purpose of the Second Amendment is not to enable hunting, but to stand as a deterrent against a tyrannical government.

My yank mate once looked me in the eye and quoted the following:

"We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.--That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed, --That whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it."

If it ever comes time to abolish a government, then how, besides through armed insurrection, would that be accomplished?  If it ever comes time to protect ones family from civil unrest, the aftermath of a natural disaster, or a simple home invasion, then how besides through armed resistance, would that be accomplished?

Not all of us depend or rely on our governments to provide our safety, and to provide our freedom. Some of us like to be self-sufficient, and there are just some situations that may arrise one day that one will need to provide for his own safety, and more importantly his own freedom. I like the example of civil unrest, as it's a fairly common thing in this world. When there are hordes of looting gangs running around in some sort of chaos, (think New Orleans during hurrican Katrina) then what better to use than an AR-15 to stand your ground as one man against 30?

What the OP wants to buy is a Saiga 12 with a drum magazine. In my opinion it's hands down the most "powerful" and destructive civilian legal firearm available in the US. You can spray 12 gauge shotgun shells down range as fast as you can pull the trigger. I don't think it would be too hard to bring down an entire single family home with one of those things by emptying a few mags into the support beams/foundation. It's definitely what I would use in a zombie apocalypse.

Full auto guns aren't legal without lot's of paperwork and licenses so I wouldn't necessarily count those as "legal".

I think you might have meant an AA-12 with a drum mag. I haven't seen a Saiga with a drum mag. Either choice is pants-shittingly awesome.

I didn't think the AA-12 was civillian legal, due to being full-auto and all.

Yes they make aftermarket drum mags for the saiga 12. I think the biggest I've seen was a 20rd drum mag, but I don't see why a 30rd wouldn't be possible as well.

Being paranoid is a fundamental necessity to winning this war against the current oppressive regime that we are locked in battle with. Without paranoia, and the consistant carefulness that comes with it, our cryptography and other technological tools of anonymitity are flat out worthless.

Nobody should trust me with their lives, freedom, or anything of similar value. But then again, you shouldn't trust ANYONE on the deep net with those things either. Just because somebody can verify that they also own another username with a PGP key doesn't mean you should ever let your gaurd down. It's like Libertas said from the get-go, "treat every marketplace as if it is compromised".

If you do not possess a healthy amount of paranoia, then participation in places like Silk Road is not a safe idea.

Good to see you back, Inigo. I encourage you to open up here. Your ideals and libertarian views combined with your influence in building this community from the start are very inspirational. I'm sure I don't have to tell you of all people, but make sure to stay safe. It would be a terrible loss to see you and Ross in the same situation. Welcome back, mate. ;)

Thanks friend. I'm certainly staying as safe as humanly possible. Only way to live when choosing this path of life to walk on.

I may even consider starting my own onion server where the books we read can be downloaded from.

If this happens might it be possible to view the books on the webpage rather than downloading?

I'll definitely look into that possibility. See what's doable and what's not doable. It also dawned on me that this is still an invite only forum, and new users interested in participating won't be able to join...  :( Not sure what can be done about that. But any more talk on this matter should be on the general book club discussion thread, I'd prefer this thread to be specifically for discussion of "Chaos Theory".

If anyone else has found some other places online where this book can be downloaded for free, please share in the thread so we can have multiple sources to download it from. I may even consider starting my own onion server where the books we read can be downloaded from.

When the old SR was seized, we were in the middle of conducting a poll to select our next book. Fortunately the forums didn't go down, so the poll was able to finish and the winner was Chaos Theory by Robert Murphy. Well we didn't get a chance to start reading it, but that's okay, for this is the book which we will start the club off with here on the new forums.

I think this is a great selection for newcomers to anarcho-capitalism. It happens to be a very short read (More like two essays than a book), yet he manages to cover an impressively large number of topics in so few pages. Murphey is consice, easy to understand, and in my opinion a brilliant man.

This book is divided into two sections: Private Law and Private Defense

I think we can use that division to our advantage, and separate this book into two weekly selections. This week we will read Private Law and next week we will read Private Defense.

So this week we will read up to page 42. If you can't help yourself from reading ahead, please hold all discussion on the next section until the proper thread is created for that next Friday.

I suggest you decide where to get the book from yourself, however just for a point of reference/example, the book is available freely online in PDF form from the Mises Institute's website. The link is below:

Welcome to Inigo's book club! (formerly known as ***DPR's Book Club*** on the old forums)

This is the official continuation of the book club that the old DPR started and I moderated on the original Silk Road forums.  I can't think of a better way to pay respects and homage to the old SR and it's fallen captain, than to study, learn, and spread the ideological principles which formed the foundation that Silk Road was built upon. Besides paying respect, it will also strengthen our new, revived community here. These beliefs separated us from the rest of the marketplaces, and I believe it is this philosophically driven motive for a better world that makes Silk Road so special.

In the word's of the former captain:

"Knowledge is power, and reading is one of the best ways to expand your knowledge.  Each week, we will select a reading designed to expand our understanding of the issues that face the Silk Road community and have a group discussion on the material.  My hope is that a high level of discourse will be fostered, and as a community, we can become strong in our beliefs, with a coherent message and voice as the world begins to take notice of us.

We will focus on agorism, counter-economics, anarcho-capitalism, austrian economics, political philosophy, freedom issues and related topics.  My hope is that through this, we will discover what we stand for and foster a culture of peace, prosperity, justice and freedom.  There is so much double-speak and misinformation in the world today that we must take our education into our own hands, and defend our minds with reason and critical thinking.

Everyone is encouraged to participate in the discussion, even if you are adamantly opposed to any bias that may be in the reading, or any consensus that may form in the group.  There are however a few guidelines that we must enforce to make sure we accomplish our goals.

1) Remain civil at all times.  If you disagree with something, debate the issue, don't attack the other participants.
2) Stay on topic.  We can stray a little bit as the material stimulates discussion, but we want to always bring it back to the specific material that we are covering in the thread.
3) Forward the action.  Try at all times to build on what has already been said.  We don't want 10 ideas being discussed simultaneously."


Please keep the above rules and guidelines in mind if you choose to participate.

Here's the plan's as they stand right now. Each week I will start a thread that includes a reading selection for that week. Usually each book will be split up into smaller weekly sections, on average about 30-50 pages per week. (pace can be adjusted according to speed and demand of the participants) When a book is finished, I will put up a poll with a handful of book choices that you guys will vote on. Whichever one wins the poll will be chosen as the next book.

This thread is specifically for general discussion of the book club itself. This is NOT the place for discussing the current reading selection. Please keep all reading selection discussions to that week's thread.

I am looking forward to going down this inspiring and educational path with each and every one of you. These are the ideas that I believe will change the world. Ideas like these have the potential to spread like wildfire across the globe, giving all of mankind the needed hope and strength to stand up to their oppressors. This book club can be the spark that starts it all. If you're new to these subjects, please join us. Read, participate, and learn. I promise that you'll never look at the world the same way again.
