If you use this wallet - off tor as it doesn't load here! GET YOUR COINS OUT OF IT IF YOU CAN!
All our coins are kept there since that big SR crash last year when no one could get into SR.
2 days now it has been "Down for Maintenance". I just read a post saying it wasn't coming back! I tried for an hour to reach them in any form I could and only got the repeated "Down for Maintenance". Did we just loose our bitcoins?
If you can get into www.instawallet.org, you might want to take you coins from there ASAP!

It may be too late to help you, but for others: NEVER store your Bitcoin in an online wallet. Doing so is similar to giving your cash to a random guy on the street and saying "Hey, mind this for me for a while until I need it. Thanks."
You should be keeping your Bitcoin encrypted on your own machine, and with at least 3 encrypted backups - one in the cloud, one on a USB stick / SD card, and one that you've emailed yourself. Again, all strongly encrypted. It wouldn't hurt also to have a brain-wallet and / or paper wallet.
This is currency at the end of the day. Who do you trust holding your fiat currency for you? Treat Bitcoin the same way - realise that it is only as secure as YOU make it.

Thank you for you input!
We don't come to the forums much, but I am glad you added this. We started using www.instawallet.org because it was recommended by several reputable follow/fella vendors and so many users saying they liked it. We used it since the SR shutdown last year. We did dozens of transfers and withdraws with no hang ups at all! And when we transferred 3 days ago it was looking like usual. Hind sight is always so 20/20 - makes me sick! We have lost every single bitcoin we had for our vendor account.
I hate bitcoins! Lol!

INSTAWALLET SERVICE NOTICE
The Instawallet service is suspended indefinitely until we are able to develop an alternative architecture.
Our database was fraudulently accessed, due to the very nature of Instawallet it is impossible to reopen the service as-is.
In the next few days we are going to open the claim process for Instawallet balance holders to claim the funds they had stored before the service interruption.
Important information on claims submission:
For the first 90 days we will accept claims for individual Instawallets. Your wallet's URL and key will be used to pre-populate a form to file the claim.
After 90 days, if no other claim has been received for the same url, your Instawallet balance under 50 BTC will be refunded. If several claims have been filed for the same url, we will process those claims on a case by case basis, under the presumption that the claim we received first belongs to the legitimate balance holder.
Claims for wallets that hold a balance greater than 50 BTC will be processed on a case by case and best efforts basis.
Glad I don't use them..

I use blockchain i hope it doesnt happen there aswell

Hi all, can anyone make me feel better. I have several instant wallets with 30 ish btc's in total, after reading the message stating they will sort it out if you supply the url's what do others think ? Am I going to get them back ?
Has this happened before and turned out ok ?
Also can anyone advise on a good way of getting your btc from SR to an exchange without attracting attention. I was told not to go straight from SR to BTC exchange is that correct ?
Thanks

Are you using blockchain.info to store your Bitcoin? If so, why? You should be storing it on your local machine in an encrypted wallet, with 3 encrypted backups - 1 in the cloud, 1 on an encrypted USB stick and 1 in an email that you've sent to yourself.
You should also consider a brain-wallet and a paper-wallet - sufficiently secured - rather than leaving your Bitcoin sitting in a random person's 'pocket', so to speak.
Why "hope it doesn't happen there" when you can take steps to actively protect your funds?! ???

You cant get your coins out, cause they are gone.
They let their authentication urls being indexed by google.
That way everybody could access their wallet without password.
4.5kk $ are rumored to be gone.

M&P!! I'm so sorry to hear about your loss of ฿! I hope ya'll are doing well.

I just found this thread. A friend of mine is on vacation and I know he keeps all of his coins in an instawallet. He is going to lose his shit.
-
grahamgreene, what stand alone clients do you recommend for keeping my coins on my machine?
-
I have in the past used one time instawallets to briefly hold small sums, before I realised this did little to obfuscate anything. If I wanted to break the link between SR and my own wallet I would use a well established mixing service like bitcoinfog, only committing amounts I could afford to lose at one time.
I cannot understand why anyone would be using instawallet as a store for bit coins, If I had a need to store bit coins I would familiarise myself with how to keep them on an offline machine, or as grahamegreen suggests a backed up and encrypted wallet.
Having said that I'm sorry for everyone's losses.
