Title: partial vendor account fee refund
Post by: brianbertz on January 23, 2013, 12:09 am
I think sr should make it so part of the now rediculous 500 dollar fee to be a vendor should be refunded after a certain amount of time as long as you have a decent feedback rating or aren't considered a scammer. Maybe like half refund or something after 90 days if you have a higher feedback of like 90 and more than 50 transactions. Anyone think this is a good idea.

Quote from: Silk Road Seller's Guide - Bond section
Bond
You are required to pay a bond when opening a seller's account that will be refunded to you after you have demonstrated that you are an asset to the Silk Road vendor community. To be eligible for a refund, you must have completed at least 30 transactions totaling $1,500 or more and have been a vendor for at least 6 weeks. To request a refund, send a message to vendor support after you have met these conditions. Meeting the minimum requirements does not guarantee you will be granted a refund. All requests will be reviewed manually.

The 'bond' referenced in the Bond section refers to the $500 vendor account fee.

O. See I thought there was something like that but a mod told me he didn't think there was so I posted it here. I think you should be guaranteed the refund tho. Not if they feel like it. But that's cool they have that tho. Thanks for letting me know

I believe the reason for manually reviewing each request is to ensure that a vendor cannot simply pad their feedback with fake transactions by purchasing their own product (say, a gram of MDMA for $50) and making 30 fake sales to the value of $1500 over 6 weeks.

A scammer could game the system by selling 30 x 1gram of MDMA at $50 per gram over 6 weeks,  paying $150 in commission to Silk Road on those sales, then getting their $500 account fee back (so in effect only paying $150 [in commission] for their vendor account), and then start scamming as normal. In this case a scammer could pad their feedback and sales happy in the knowledge that they'll be getting their $500 vendor fee back automatically, and after that would only have to scam $150 in order to break even. The manual review serves as a deterrent for such behaviour.

On an unrelated note, $500 is an incredibly low fee to pay to open up a global market for your product. Even in real-world legitimate business the costs involved in being able to market and sell your products are many times higher than this, so the cost:gain ratio is very low indeed.

That is exactly the reply I was looking for and after reading that I do agree  with the manual reviewing. That's cool you get the whole 500 back if you are proven legit. That is a low fee when I actually think about how many people will possibly buy from you on the road. The reason why I'd rather sell on here than irl. +1 to you for that man. Thanks!

If you got nothing to worry about the bond is a good idea  :D It filters out all the bad vendors and scammers and with you guys on here its a safer place more so that it has ever been for the buyer
also the report vendor button is a great idea  ;) but be vigilant tho  people do strange things for dollar

I think the bond is a very good idea and completely reasonable. As for the fee, I am still trying to get my head around hedging but I can't work out how much in fees are being charged on each transaction. A little more transparency would be great.
I thought rather than meeting the current criteria, something along the lines of charging $xx (1000) and then you get free commission to the value of $xx.

Either way, the only way to succeed is to keep 'the shit' out of the marketplace.
Great job SR

Hi universalimports,

You can find a post at the following link where I explain the current Silk Road transaction fee setup:
http://dkn255hz262ypmii.onion/index.php?topic=100160.msg702790#msg702790

Information regarding the hedging fee and post-commisson / pre-commission pricing can also be found in a link in that post.

Best of luck with your new venture here!
