I am a newbie i am currently working on my first purchase. I am wondering when i give the other user my wallet address. Do i use the one on bitcoin client or the silk road address?? i plan on spending the coin here on sr. any help is greatly appreciated

You should find another place to buy your bitcoins. Using an anonymous market place isn't the safest way of buying bitcoins. Are you in the US, if so then I recommend using bitinstant.

Please do not buy Bitcoin from another SR member unless that person is a vendor on Silk Road. Sales are not allowed on the forum, and are not allowed at all without a vendor account.
It's highly likely that you'll be ripped off if you try to buy Bitcoin off a forum member. Ideally you should buy your Bitcoin off-site but if you want to go the SR route, perhaps try getting in touch with Sugar Mama over on SR; I've read nothing but good things about her and her service. I think her rate is about 10 or 15%.

The only thing the vendor needs to know is your silk road account name. They don't use the bitcoin address. You can transfer funds directly between members without going through the blockchain.

I'm not sure what you mean about what kind of money you use when you send via Western Union. I think you mean does it matter which currency you send? If that's what you're asking, no, it doesn't matter what currency you send in. You go to a Western Union agent with your local currency and the person you're sending it to gets it paid out in their local currency. Western Union do have their own exchange rate though, so they'll pay out less than you think. Go to the Western Union website and you can find out how much the receiver will be picking up when you send X amount of money.

Choose your vendor very, very carefully.
Every time I read a post about buying btc off a vendor, especially for a buyers first experience on SR, I just assume they are about to get ripped off.
Good luck.

If you want to make the things right, I'd say you get the BTC in a trustful clearnet site, and THEN launder them. There are are some trusted BTC laundrys in these forums I guess.. you should search one with good reviews.. since it's quite common to read about people ripped of by "laundry"... again,.. that's MY advice but can't be far from the recommended by most users

Hey,
I made a deposit through bitinstant and coinapult now that they are back up, SR has been spotty all week long, I used to barely be able to connect at night and now not at all. I know coinapult does not keep your BTC forever unless you transfer them to a wallet which I don't have at this point besides the SR provided address. I was wondering if anybody depositing money to their address and if it's safe to do now that the site is down or would it just show when the site comes back up? How secure is their wallet?
Also, does anyone know the exact time coinapult lets you keep your coins there before it disappears? I rather not open another wallet (i.e. got.mx) unless I have to.
Any advice? Thanks!
GZ.
