Title: Bitcoin Central is requesting my ID, is it normal??
Post by: torkenji on September 11, 2012, 11:57 pm
Hi there.
I sent some money through a bank transfer on the account of Bitcoin Central, and i was waiting for the money to appear in my account.
But because 2 days passed without news i wrote to the costumer service and they said to me that because i registered on their website using Tor, i need to send them a copy of my ID and a proof of residence in order to receive my money on my account. Otherwise they will take my money, i suppose.... :/

Is it normal for a Bitcoin seller to ask for documents? Shouldn't be an anonimous service? And, can i trust in Bitcoin Central? Do you ever used it and sent your documents??
Please let me know something asap!!  :-\ :-\ :-\

First things first; Stop!
Do your research here on the forums before you do ANYTHING else. Read about what to do and what not to do concerning Bitcoin.
'pine' has an excellent guide for obtaining Bitcoin anonymously, which you'll find here

You must ALWAYS do your research first to avoid getting stuck in similar situations in future, whether that be with purchasing Bitcoin, or with making an order on Silk Road.

As far as your current situation is concerned, the only way you are going to get the Bitcoin that you've paid for is if you provide the documents requested under Bitcoin-central's KYC / AML requirements. Remember, there is nothing illegal or wrong about buying Bitcoin. However, as you have not bought them anonymously, you will certainly want to tumble your coins through a Bitcoin tumbler such as BitcoinFog before sending them to your Silk Road account. All the information you require about tumbling is available by searching the forums, or by searching for "BitcoinFog" on the clearnet (the regular internet).

Obviously it is best to buy them anonymously in the first place, but at least you know now for next time. :)
