Whats a good route to go? A simple search online directed me to mtgox.com which is at 10.37 per coin. Just looking for some feedback seeing that mtgox is cheaper than most users on the market here. Just want to stay anonymous.

Just want to stay anonymous.
Then don't touch Mt. Gox, they will freeze your account and make you verify your identity with ID to release funds.
There anre many other options for buying bitcoin, do a search on here "buy bitcoin anonymous YOURCOUNTRY" and you'll find lots of info.

The above is simply not true.
Mt.Gox has no reason to freeze your account or ask you to verify your identity before releasing your funds unless they suspect you of money laundering or financing terrorism. Accessing Mt.Gox via TOR puts you under suspicion of money laundering as it falls foul of their anti money laundering policies (due to a lack of a verifiable IP address.) However, accessing it using a VPN will allow you to bypass this problem and move your funds around anonymously. It must also be stated that you won't have to provide ID for withdrawals under 200 BTC; note, however, that in Mt.Gox's terms & conditions they do state that you can be asked to provide identification at any time, without being given a reason. This is not to say that you WILL be, only that you MAY be.
You can read up on the Mt.Gox AML / KYC process here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=86224.0;all
Were you to use Mt.Gox, as your main goal is staying anonymous you should only access it using a VPN. Set up and access a Mt.Gox account through this and ensure you keep all withdrawals < 200 BTC. When you receive your Bitcoin run them through a tumbler such as Bitcoin Fog for 7 days, in various amounts, ensuring your anonymity and severing the link between the original Bitcoin you bought and the Bitcoin you spend on Silk Road.
However, as BigEasy mentioned there are plenty of other ways to obtain Bitcoin anonymously and without the risk of Mt.Gox asking you to submit identification.

grahamgreene - thanks for the further clarification about Mt. Gox.
Overall I have just heard way too many people complain of Mt. Gox asking for ID after they use tor to access their accounts and for the sake of less worrying about such things think other options are easier. There is something to said about blending in to the haystack though, and VPN's can be used anonymously just as long as one knows what they are doing.

Ahh I see Ill read up on btc fog right now actually. But in the mean time I did stumble upon another thread about using Bitinstant's option to send cash anonymously with fake information via your local WalMart/CVS. I'm just a little confused on the process so I'm waiting for someone to respond to my question over there before spending a few hundred on btc

One way I did this was with MoneyGram to Bitinstant to a Bitcoin address. This was fairly anonymous although I know they have video of me at the MoneyGram counter handing over my cash. (I might not feel too good, but I look marvelous.) However, it looks like Bitinstant isn't taking MoneyGram now.
Check out https://get-bitcoin.com/. It looks like you can do cash deposits to WellsFargo or BofA and get coins in under an hour. (They also look like they do WU and MoneyGram too.) All of these are fairly anonymous -- certainly good enough for a SR user.
It's not hard. Just follow their instructions. (Basically it boils down to going to WellsFargo or BofA and depositing cash in an account. You don't have to show ID or anything.) My advice is to make a wallet on blockchain.info and use get-bitcoin.com to send your coins to your address there. Then, use the mixer at blockchain.info before you send your coin to your SR account.
Note that I have no idea how trustworthy get-bitcoin.com is. Not only am I not associated with them, I have never even used them. Tell us how it goes!

No problem BigEasy.
I definitely agree with you that other options are easier and carry a little less risk, I just wanted to let people know that Mt. Gox isn't impossible to use anonymously, and that they don't freeze accounts as easily or as often as people seem to think.
Like most things concerning Bitcoin, if one researches their method fully to find out what to do and what not to do (finding out about accessing Mt. Gox via TOR for instance) they are far less likely to run into problems. The issues arise when people only do their research AFTER they have a problem. Prevention is better than the cure 'n all that!

hello.
i'm not sure whats going on with bitfloor so i'm looking for an alternative. when i look at get-bitcoin to make a deposit its asking for my bitcoin address. is that my wallet address on SR? any help would be greatly appreciated
-
09g8gt - it's best to have an Intermediary step between you and SR. Sign up for an account through Tor for blockchain.info or any other wallet service and have your btc sent there first, tumble for extra security and then send it to your SR address.
get-bitcoin --> blockchain wallet --> tumble --> silkroad --> buy stuff ;) --> get stuff --> be happy
-
ok so i have a bitcoin wallet on blockchain. but when i try to buy coins thru getbitcoin.. using my bitcoin address i get this error.
We're sorry, but something went wrong.
We've been notified about this issue and we'll take a look at it shortly.
what do you think about this?
-
Are you sure you copy and pasted the address correctly?
Double check it and try again?

thx BigEasy. I got the payment slip for depositing into my wallet.

An interesting thread over at Reddit, i came upon today:
Set up an account (it now seems that someone else has blocked it by multiple failed login attempts, although that could have been due to me accessing it over Tor?) Got as far as going to add funds to the account by bank transfer to UK account details, but it said "* Please be advised that accessing your account via the Tor network and/or public proxies may result in a temporary suspension of your account, and having to submit AML documents. " My question is: what is the proper way to add/spend funds from this point on? Is making a direct transfer from my legitimate bank account a good idea? (not over Tor?) Also, how do you go about setting up a 'wallet' once the BTC are bought? Sorry for silly questions, can't find the answers
Also, what is the transfer limit at which I need to provide ID to mtgox? I was thinking of transfering just ~£25-£30 to start with
