Wallet Address
You can generate any number of addresses (public keys) for a wallet and any previous address matching a wallet can be used for that wallet. Every time you make a transaction into your SR wallet, a new wallet address will be generated. This is done so that no correlation between your wallet and address can be made. An address is 33 characters long and always starts with a "3" or a "1".
This is from http://dkn255hz262ypmii.onion/wiki/index.php/Bitcoin
I think you will be fine.

That's exactly what he was refering to....Stop freaking out you'll get your coins. Just wait and be patient like the rest of us.

Just open the link that I posted above already...it explains it all

Lol. You`ll get your coins mate. The 'generate new address' tab is for remaining anonymous, using the same address all the time will be obvious as people can look it up on the blockchain publicly. God I love noobs. ;D

Newbies: Please search the forum when you have an issue. 99% of the time your problem has been encountered / explained before, and you also NEED to read the SR wiki which was linked above. Every 4th or 5th new thread these days seems to be somebody having an issue and not taking 10 seconds to do a search to see if the topic has been dealt with / explained before.
We were all new once, and I get that Silk Road may seem a little daunting to people who aren't technologically minded / haven't done their homework on Bitcoin and the 'Road itself, but seriously, please take 10 seconds out of your day to search the forums before starting a new thread. Also make sure you read the Security forum to get your security up to scratch. If you need help, search for it.

I`m afraid most of what you typed will go unheard. :-\ Most people new to this are overcome with excitement at their discovery, so naturally for the them the questions come later.

I know.. I just had to vent! :P

Maybe there should be a reading comprehension test taken during registration that cover all of this.

Oddly enough this is not the first time this has been suggested. It doesn't help that newbies only come to the forums if/when they have an issue though...

Even if you put a huge banner across the log-in prompt saying 'CLICK HERE FOR NOOBS FAQ AND GUIDELINES' they still wouldn`t bother to read it.

What state and city and location did you deposit the money? and what is your bitcoin address? this will help me answer your question.
You must really have no life. I feel bad for you. :'(

True. Maybe show the guide when they sign up? Or lock their account from from ordering until they read the guides? I don't know, sometimes it's frustrating, but not because I've said things more than once, just because the forums have helped me so much that I feel bad for those who are missing out and then getting scammed, or worse, risking run ins with LE...

It wouldn`t work really, most would just skip it like the agreement contract for installing/using programs. (Not that I read those. ::)) Plus how would the system verify that they read it?

I was thinking either display it by default when they sign up, or have a link to it, but not let anyone purchase until this has been clicked on. You could even stop them setting a PIN until they have clicked on the link?
Even if it just guarantees that the document has been displayed to them that's better than nothing. This way if someone posts something that is clearly in the guide you can point it out to them, and you already know they haven't read it.
You're right though, it wouldn't stop the issues from people who aren't going to the forums until they have an issue, they'll just skip and go straight to ordering.
And just to clarify for any newbs reading this, I personally am not against newb questions, better to ask and have three people call you a newb but get your answer than get screwed over. But also better to do your research and avoid issues in the first place :)

Sure, I guess you could ask the SR team if thats an option, but to be honest it seems like a hopeless matter to me. Most questions asked on here have been answered several times, and it would be nice if people could use the 'search bar' on the top right to research first. I mean, my face just turns upside down when the new threads of the day are 'Where to buy bitcoins?''Where is my bitcoins?''Is SR under LE control?''How to PGP?/etc. After a while it gets tiring. :(

Hmmm. Just a fact of life then you think? You're probably right, factoring in the time and cost of making changes it's probably not worth trying anything to 'fix' the system. It's not like it's 'broken' anyway :P

There hasn't been a blog, or forum where everything that goes on here, goes on there to some degree as well.
Thats why we have stickies, and a wiki.
People don't read, and if they did it takes days.
How does that work in an instant Ipod world?
I know I spent 3 days reading through posts.
Anyhow, newbie mistake, coins come through, don't worry, takes time.
I did it myself, but found the answer in the SR FAQ.

True, some things just never change. ::)

Old addresses can still be used to transfer bitcoins to your SR account.
My question is, how long will an old address last?
I've always changed address prior to transferring bitcions to my account, so there are some old addresses from 2011.
If someone transfers to one of those old addresses, will it show up in my SR account?
