Title: How do I Finalize Early????
Post by: jlb2010 on March 17, 2012, 04:36 pm
I am making a first purchase.   Can someone tell me how to finalize early.   My order page just shows "processing"  in the status box.  So I don't see where I can change it to finalize.   And on my account page - all the money is in "escrow" --  so I don't know how to move it to finalize early.   Do I just send the money directly to the person - if so,  how do I do that?  I don't know the address of that person??  Any  help???

The vendor needs to process your order (aka ship it) first, at which time they will update the status from processing to finalize/resolve.

Don't finalize early !

If your Vendor is requiring you to finalize early you must wait until he marks your order as shipped.  You will then see the finalize/resolve buttons.  Finalize the order (if you really feel that you must) but, don't leave feedback.  When it takes you to the feedback page just click on the SL Header in the upper left corner.  When you do receive your order, test it out  and then go back to your orders page and leave feedback.  If you don't receive your order in about 2-3 weeks, then PM the Vendor.

I would not finalize early unless absolutely necessary, once you do that you are saying you received your order and you have NO protection against being scammed and you have no recourse to get your money back if you do not receive your order. Be very careful with that finalize early thing and it does not make you one of the crowd doing it far to many people think it is the thing to do until they get scammed which has happened alot lately.

When I try to finalize early the option is not available, and the tooltip text says 'this option will be available in 2 days'.

Is this normal, or can it be expedited?

Isn't this what happens now if the seller has less than 35 transactions?

Pretty sure that's how it works now, transactions with vendors with less than a certain number of transactions can't be finalized for 3 days or something from when the order was marked as "in transit" by the seller.

That is correct.  And if a vendor with less than 35 transactions does ask you to FE, saying they won't ship until you can finalize the order, I suggest you talk to them about it, explain that SR could suspend their account if they find out and work something out.

If on the other hand it is an established vendor, and you are a new buyer with no history, be prepared to FE.  But, as everyone says, do your homework and research the vendor before going ahead and FE.

Ok thanks for the comment.

Yeah I am a new buyer with no history, and he is a new seller with no history.

It's only 6 bc, so I'm not hugely scared about being scammed, but maybe I should cancel and try an established seller.

If he's a new vendor he can't ask you to FE, so do as someone suggested and msg him saying you are really interested in his product but that its in direct violation for him to ask you to FE so can you two work something out since neither party has an established reputation yet.

Finalize when you receive the package.

They've implemented a new measure so that for NEW vendors, once they have confirmed processing your order must wait 3 day's before the finalize link will appear.  It's to deter scamming vendors (since their new they havn't established a reputation yet).  Those vendors who are established don't have this condition and as soon as they confirm processing of your order (aka they've shipped it) the finalize link will appear right away.

I HIGHLY HIGHLY suggest you DO NOT finalize until your package is in your hands.  The only exception to this is if you're a new buyer and the vendor's profile states in their policy that there are conditions requiring finalizing early for new buyers (eg. if you have less then 5 transactions you must finalize before they will ship it).  We don't like FE here on SR :D, but it's a necessary evil to protect the vendor from potentially scamming buyers who have themselves not yet established a reputation.

If the vendor is new and confined to the 3 day wait before the finalize link appears they CANNOT ASK YOU TO FINALIZE EARLY !  It's a direct infraction of the rules here.  New vendors MUST ship the package first and the buyer MUST wait until the package is in their hands before they click the finalize link.  If they try and force you to or are in any way hostile about you finalizing early, report them to SR support immediately, it's a direct violation for NEW vendors to ask ANY buyer to finalize early.

Hi Manfred,

If the vendor has less than 35 sales and has been a vendor for less than a month (as seems to be the case here), he or she is explicitly prohibited from asking people to Finalize Early. They agree to these terms when they agree to the Silk Road Seller's Guide (http://silkroadvb5piz3r.onion/index.php/silkroad/sellers_guide), the terms of which are acknowledged by virtue of agreeing to the Silk Road Seller contract.
The section below sets out Silk Road's policy on Finalizing Early:
Quote from: Silk Road Sellers Guide
(NOTICE: If you are a new vendor, you may not ask your customers to finalize their orders and release payment to you before you ship, a practice known as "finalizing early". If you do this, you will lose your selling priviledges. Once you have completed 35 successful transactions and have been a seller for at least one month, you may ask your customers to finalize early without reprocussion. In no way do we support finalizing early in general and this rule should not be construed as support for finalizing early for more established vendors.
These restrictions on the vendor are in place for your protection as a buyer.

It is incredibly important to report instances of vendors who are breaking this rule to SR Support - please also name this vendor here so as others can avoid them in future.

Hi squig007,

Yes, once you finalise an order it will disappear from your order page.
'Finalised' by it's very definition means that the deal or transaction has concluded, with both parties fully satisfied. As far as the Silk Road system is concerned, you've received your package and are happy with it's contents. Note that by Finalising Early you now have no recourse available to you in the event that your package does not arrive, and can not avail of the Silk Road resolution process.

You can, however, still access your feedback via the "View feedback" link in the "Account links" panel on your Account page.

There is something I am confused about. If a vendor needs to ship the product first before allowing you to finalize how does this protect the vendor from fraud. They've already sent out the product so how does finalizing early benefit them at this point. Or does this request mean that they will put the product "in transit" even though it isn't actually shipped but still waiting the buyer to finalize?

Silk roads offical statement is to never finalize early under any circumstance and to report anyone who asks you to. But it is really your own descion whether or not to FE. If you trust the guy, If you have done bussiness with them before.  It is based upon your own discretion and relationship with the seller every situation is different
