Title: Uncompressed vs. compressed weed?
Post by: gtg424 on February 07, 2012, 01:03 am
I keep hearing people complaining about how sellers ship compressed weed.  Does that mean the weed is all packed into a dense chunk or something?  Does uncompressed weed have any advantages besides aesthetics?  I'm just planning on grinding it up anyway so I don't see what the big deal is, personally.

Basically just flattened buds to varying degrees so it's stealthier when shipping. As far as I can tell it really is just a matter of aesthetics. I grind my bud as well and all of the compressed weed I've seen from vendors on here smells, smokes, and feels the same as I imagine it would otherwise. Also good buds flattened still look like delicious good weed should, just in 2-D  ;)

Depending on how compressed your weed is, it can be almost brick-like, or if you request that it not be compressed too much, your vendor will normally vacuum-seal the inner bag loosely, then vacuum the two outer bags tight. There's a potential trade-off between either low compression with only adequate security and high compression and excellent security, and I think its better to receive the product compressed than not to receive it at all.
If you're grinding it up you'll be pleasantly surprised at how much you get from what you put into your grinder!  ;) The amount is still the same, the weight is still the same, its just smaller, so that little 1cm square nug has more weed in it than the 1cm nug of uncompressed green! Aesthetics is really the only reason I can see for non-compression, but if you're grinding it up and smoking it then you're not really gonna be spending too long looking at it!  :P

Yup just aesthetics as far as uncompressed.

And I'm guessing if you buy it not just for personal use but to help friends out and such, they'd probably look at you funny if you handed them a compressed 8th that's the size of a g unless you/they had a scale to bust out every time.

I believe it is not simply because I enjoy my buds nice and fluffy... when dealers dont leave some air in the first layer and then vacuum seal the bud, it completely condenses the nugs. If I wanted flattened bud, I would buy schwag for WAY less money. The best vendors take care to ensure their product is not overly compressed (every one Ive ordered from actually:  LexiS, TUS, 420med, Rook, MjMuse, MHM)

The real reason is because the delicious trichromes are actually smashed open, exposing the goodies to nasty oxygen, which cause the degradation to CBN.  This cannabinoid alters the high in an undesirable way essentially, and lower quality weed has higher ratios, one reason being due to the damaged trichromes. You can actually see them adhered all over the plastic bag and crushed on the bud which is sad.

It's not because crushed weed is inherently worse because it has been crushed, but typically crushed weed has been grown less effectively. It was grown rather carelessly in, say, Mexico, and then was compressed for the purpose of going across the border. Un-compressed weed is more likely to be from a legit local vendor.
