However they aren't part of the community, their parasitesPart of the community or not, by releasing personal details we would be abandoning the principles around which Silk Road itself was founded. I include the forums in that definition as they were originally a part of the main site itself. We cannot pick and choose whom we allow to remain anonymous. Such a system would be completely unjust. It's must either be everybody or nobody; there can be no half-measures.Quote from: nanpa2001 on January 24, 2013, 07:04 amThey have a site on the clearnet. How can there be an issue with exposing their identities? There is a HUGE difference between fraud, which creates aggrieved victims, and transactions between willing buyers and sellers, as is happening here.If one compares these two things and sees equivalency then ones moral compass is faulty. As for retaliation against virwex/bitcointalks - that is a philosophical issues between eye for an eye or turn the other cheek. I think that exposing them is a good idea. It gives the victims of this fraud an avenue for the recovery of their stolen money. Is there anyone here that truly thinks that virwex should be able to keep it's stolen money?Addressing grahamgreene - you say that 'doxing' someone goes against the spirit of the forum. Let me give you an alternative example.None of us wants to see people thrown into prison for taking or selling drugs, is that correct? That would go against the spirit of the forum, no? What about a murderer? With a few exceptions, I would say most people would want a murderer to go to prison, and the spirit of the forum has nothing to do with it. Same with virwex/bitcointalks. The spirit of the forum doesn't apply to them.Hi again nanpa2001,Yes, they have a site on the clearnet and have presumably masked their identities. If someone were to find their identity (and could confirm with 100% certainty that it is correct) then sure, post it all over the clearnet, make life difficult for them etc. However, posting it **here** would be the problematic issue. It would also be subject to immediate deletion by the moderators, in line with the rules regarding anonymity here.Nobody is saying that committing fraud and engaging in free-market transactions are the same; however, anonymity is the number one rule here regardless of the actions of the offender. We cannot expect anonymity when we refuse to offer it to others. Like I said above in reply to dbz4u, we can't pick and choose who remains anonymous. Anonymity is **guaranteed** here, which is why people feel comfortable discussing certain topics freely and openly. If we remove that guarantee of anonymity we do not deserve it ourselves. In response to the example you provided above, you're pushing your morals on others. Who is to say that one person's morals are superior to another person's morals? To some, taking and selling drugs is immoral behaviour. To others, murder is immoral behaviour. One cannot simply presume that because one holds a certain set of values, others share the same.People being thrown into prison for taking or selling drugs has got nothing to do with the spirit of the forums, nor has murder, as neither have anything to do with the anonymity provided here which is the issue in question. You're not employing sound logic in your argument. If you know the name of a murderer and wish to see your view of justice served, then by all means post his/her details on the clearnet, or go to the police yourself. However, the Silk Road forums are not the place to take away anyone's guarantee of anonymity - a guarantee that is enshrined in the very principles by which we operate here.- grahamgreene
