Too true, think smartly...
It's time for the MODS to get together and go to the backup plan to
ensure a smooth transition. There is way too much money involved
here for there not to be a plan in place. Turn up the backup servers,
get the URL's posted, and get all the transactional logs for BTC back
online.
It should have been done already, but the initial panic has to subside
and rational thinking/actions get moving. Everyone knew this may
one day happen, and only stupidity would have no recourse to restoration.

NONE of the back up plan has been "turned on yet"...I am not sure it will. But I think we need to remain calm and wait for more good information.

I suggest people make a local copy of these addresses, in case the forum is somehow seized/affected too or simply overloaded due to the SR outage and DPR's arrest.

It seems they did not take all the money. Clearnet news confirms $3.6M worth of BTC (about 26000) being seized. There must be a heck of a lot more in wallets and escrow. Perhaps this was (just) DPR's own money - lets not panick yet and hope some of the backups will come online and we can see the status there.
BTC are dropping in value rapidly though (4% in the last hour, on thick volume), so even they are recoverd they may not be worth as much :(

POOL PGP KEYS

Vendors and to a lesser extent buyers may have difficulty proving they are who they say they are in the event that the SR data set has been lost.
** Therefore it is vital that PGP public keys for vendors are retained and pooled. **
I have many stored and I am sure that many of you also have them stored. There is a PGP key thread in the security forum but it is 130 pages which is a lot to mirror and I'm not convinced it has that many vendors in it.

Silkroad architecture hopefully involves the use of hidden service servers that host the entry point rather than the website and database itself. I hope. If this is the case then it is possible that only the entry points are compromised rather than the web servers and the database which obviously is where the real deal is. Speculation but good security would suggest this is mandatory - I don't hold out a great deal of hope as there would be immense pressure on anyone in custody to provide access to all known servers. Hopefully SR team employ compartmentalization and two man rule for certain operations and DPR is not a god user across everything.

Thanks for starting the thread bro. RxKing is right panic and stupid theories flooding the forums is not going to do anything. We know there's no way $3.6 million is every penny that was on SR. DPR most likely didnt even have access to our wallets because then he could have just emptied everyone out and said fuck it long ago. Most likely they got whatever was in his account and possibly whatever was in escrow because his account had authority over the escrow system. Were all underestimating the original DPR because he prepared for a seizure and set the site up in various ways so that we can go on even in the event something happened to him. DPR also had several helpers who im sure are hesitantly waiting to log on after he got arrested for their own safety. In the meantime we should all start establishing connections with those whom we need to stay in contact with and keep this community running.

rxking did you read the warrant info, they have been tracking his actions snce the inception of silkroad, and know it was him back when before it ever was silkroad. =[ its pretty detailed and intense. ive seen juries convict people on less information then is in there warrant. they have multiple silkroad servers, and all the messages on them,

We lost 64 coins too, everybody lost alot of money, some had to be in the hundreds of thousands because of the amounts in escrow. but this is miniscule. If we get this back up and running we will all be making money again.but first things first:
We need to have a backup place for atleast the vendors and mods to communicate. if we cant communicate all is lost for good as everybody separates. The buyers will follow where the vendors go. I never claimed my bond refund and dont have roundtable access as i never needed it but an IRC channel is always an option. We should also ALL agree on a place, a mod or somebody with authority needs to post where everybody will go to. Without the whole community on the same page everything will fall apart.
If this is all true, the forums will be gone before long and we have to be able to speak on a professional level somewhere. New dpr may be gone but we are still here. We can all put in our 2 cents but in reality all anybody wants is a new place, screw the coins, screw the orders processing, we just need some other medium that will replace SR if this is how it seems, and somebody just needs to say when and where. If its not then when stay but that does not look promising.
also why does it say district court of NY on the seizure page?

This iS A PERFECT EXAMPLE OF HOW WORTHLESS AND SHITTY PGP IS. I Do know that the "NEW" DPR is who was arrested SO THAT means the original gangster is out and around, that of course is great news for al of us. It has yet to be seen how they busted dpr. And when that comes out that wil give us a lot more information.
As far as the switch being thrown so that SR would kick al your outstanding balances back to you is kind of a myth. there absolutely is something like that but it would not get hit anytime son.
WE really need to wait for the arrest affidavit to come out..that will tel us so much information.
Of course my attorney is already in action to get the information of what legally went down. And as son as I get it i will post it and over time you will see that I will get accurate information out as son as it is available
Another thing to point out is at this time we all need to come together and be on each others side and be patient. Of course we know that a lot of the druggies on this site act like animals when ever anything go's wrong. These people (if you want to cal them that) just feel the need to get attention and act like ass holes.

BUT the one thing this proves is that PGP is worthless in signing of messages.as even if a message from DPR was to hit this site now.no one would be able to say for sure it is him. You would be able to confirm it is his pgp.but who cares about that.and this is a reason pgp is useless. But what is more useless is talking about that. I hate PGP. But who the fuck cares. Yes and no. I have the lists and we're working flat out with all engines roaring right now but it isn't an easy job.
2nd audit was held back at the request of DPR.

There has only ever been one DPR. Unless he shared details of an early discussion that I had with him to his successors. I have had intimate discussions rather recently about the same topic, and he wasn't confused in the slightest about the situation I was discussing with him.

It's hard getting my thoughts together enough to be helpful right now, but is moving to another smaller site the answer here? I didnt have bitcoins backed up OR customers, and I am not sure what is safe to communicate on.
One of my thoughts is to invest in bitcoin when it hits rock bottom. I dont know. I am so flusterfucked right now that I cant even think of accurate words to describe it. I havent heard of Sheep but that seems like the main place to go right now.

Not much BS here folks. They tracked down multiple servers. In July 2013 they were able to get a full live running image of the main SR site from a foreign server. They analyzed May-July to use for the indictment.
ForeignChemist was the prick that was extorting DPR and threatened to release names/addresses. DPR tried to have him killed. He used SR clear messages to set up the murder. They have the messages.
All transactions and PM's through July 2013 can be considered in the hands of the feds.
If you used clear text PM's for sensitive info, act accordingly.
Cleanup and don't expect the site to come back up any time soon, if at all but that is too early to tell now.

I've just read in the BBC article:
A second document alleges that private communications recovered from the Silk Road's computer server suggested the suspect had been willing to pursue violent means to defend his interests.
Does that mean that the actual server is compromised completely ? Also, he was arrested in a public library although the Silk Road's server computer was seized at the same time?

Does anyone know the HOW's of this situation? HOW did they track him down if TOR is anonymizing? HOW did they get access to the servers? HOW did they decrypt his PGP messages...and of course HOW fucked is everyone that was a part of this website? Even if they do have our addresses or whatever they can't prove anyone actually received drugs unless the government was actually sending them out...fuck I've been feeling like this was coming for a while now...didn't get on for a couple days and then this....fuck WHAT HAPPENED?!?

We all need to stick together right now, Vendors & customers alike. We need to support each other & keep the drama to a minimal. DPR is just small guy to the feds. He's just a facilitator. Fed's drumming up some heavy duty charges for negotiating leverage to get him to co-operate. DPR has intel the feds want, and they are going to try anything to get him to co-operate. There is a good chance he may give up the location of the backup servers.

So, are we safe, as long as our addresses were always encrypted? I had openly discussed plans of buying large quantities of drugs through PM's without encryption, but I never revealed sensitive info in those PMs, like addresses. I should be fine, right?

What's the danger to small time buyers here? If I recall no buyer arrests were made when the farmers market went down and that was with paypal transactions. Is it likely that LE will actually comb the database and hunt down small time buyers (presumably if their address was unencrypted or in a PM)?
Plus, what are the feds going to do if they track a buyer down with evidence that he bought drugs if no drugs are found on site? Yeah, he may have bought some drugs a few months ago, but what do they actually have?

Does anyone know the HOW's of this situation? HOW did they track him down if TOR is anonymizing? HOW did they get access to the servers? HOW did they decrypt his PGP messages...and of course HOW fucked is everyone that was a part of this website? Even if they do have our addresses or whatever they can't prove anyone actually received drugs unless the government was actually sending them out...fuck I've been feeling like this was coming for a while now...didn't get on for a couple days and then this....fuck WHAT HAPPENED?!?
It's all in the criminal complaint.. He did a lot of fuck ups which allowed the feds to gain access to the SR servers basically. Everything that was PGP encrypted is safe.
On another note, PGP did not help for SHIT.

Go to http://view.samurajdata.se/ to view PDFs safely on tor. Contrary to popular belief, visiting clearnet links with tor is NOT a security risk. You shouldn't use your normal browser to visit links posted on here though, always use tor.

Has anyone considered that this is an elaborate fake so DPR can make off with all the holdings? Has there been any official information released by LE? Or just the spash page on SR and then what was fed to media?
I don't know, maybe if the risk was getting too high this was a way to cash out big and walk away?

I am certain that it's not fake. Only because there's news articles displayed on national news websites and no doubt it will make the TV news at some point over the next few days. Would be great if someone a bit higher up could give us some kinda insight on what's going to happen next with regard to backup servers or whether we should vacate?

Who knows? Massive busts usually involve large suppliers. It's always about the supply. The government wants to restrict it to keep prices up and reduce availability. But this may be different and the government may try to send a message by trying to bust as many people as possible. That means going after low hanging fruit (people who didn't encrypt sensitive info). I don't want to scare anyone but if you did reveal sensitive info in the clear then you need to act accordingly. Not the least of which is to know your rights and how to exercise them. Especially the right to remain silent and the right against unreasonable search and seizure. And the right to have your lawyer present when questioned. Also scrub any incriminating info on your computer(s) with DBAN or by encrypting your entire hard drive with Twofish using an 80+ character password then delete your partitions. Lastly you make 100% sure that there is no incriminating physical evidence to nail you.

You can assume whatever you sent in the clear has been fully compromised and is now in some sort of a permanent government watchlist. That means use alternative drops and names. Obvious and common sense but apparently not nearly common sense enough given how SR was brought down.

Thanks for the response. I am not US-based either so risk is reduced a small amount, but the FBI will no doubt share this information with international partners. What exactly would be incriminating evidence on my hard drive apart from Tor browser? Guessing Tor leaves behind 'footprints' on the hard drive?
