Title: A word of warning, I got FUCKED and dragged in by the cops...
Post by: stinkybuns on February 17, 2012, 09:56 am
I would love to go into detail in this post but I can't for obvious reasons.  I need to stay relatively vague about certain aspects...  Long story short, I am in Canada and have ordered dozens of treats in the past few months, mostly pills and powders from the Netherlands or Germany as well as from the States.  Never once was I scammed or was anything lost in the mail.  And then...  I ordered something from a vendor, a vendor with a lot of sales under their belt, and they PURPORTED to be from the Netherlands.  About six weeks went by, and I had pretty much given up on it.  I wasn't too worked up about it, planned to drop a message to the vendor whenever.  Little did I know, that the vendor had sent the package, from CHINA.

You can guess what happened, the RCMP knocked on my apartment door and I was interrogated at length about this.  The product had been confiscated by customs, sent to a lab, etc.  The RCMP were fucking ALL OVER ME about this.  Naturally I pleaded complete and total ignorance, but in the meantime there I sat having every silly psychological trick thrown at me including all sorts of dire threats, etc.  They weren't going to charge me, but they flat out told me they would be watching me.

And now...  I can't take the chance to order anything from outside the country anymore.  All because I got FUCKED by this vendor.  I would have NEVER, in a MILLION FUCKING YEARS, ordered what I did from China.  Silk Road is essentially dead to me now, because some of the rare and oddball things I want simply aren't available from vendors in Canada.  I am fucking pissed and being in Canada means I can't come up with another address, I can't take the chance to have the cops breathing down my neck.

I have looked through all the shipping and security threads, and the fact is we really don't know how much they keep an eye on people once they have had a package ganked.  Even with all the zillions of things coming through customs, it isn't entirely impossible that they don't have the means to red flag specific addresses and 'watch' them for stuff coming in from outside the country.  Plausible deniability is a great thing, it meant I sat there playing dumb without being too worried about anything THIS TIME.  But what about the next package they intercept?  What will they do then?  Can you plead ignorance over and over again, simply claiming that someone must be out to get you?

Some people will ask why I don't name the vendor, and go into detail about what I ordered.  I have chosen not to do this for reasons that would become clear if you thought about my position in this matter.  The only real message I want to get across in this post is to never let your guard down.  I will never know how close I came to them knocking on the door with a search warrant, out of the blue.  From here on out I have to completely change the way I do things, and I know fucking well that the cops will be watching me like a hawk.  I don't know how far their gaze can penetrate without warrants, I understand that they can't just do whatever they want without having just reason and cause and going before a judge.  All I know is that they acted like I had tried to ship a nuclear weapon into the country.  Be careful folks.

It seems to me your best moves now are:

1. Wait for a month.
2. Get a new address (virtual office, PMB etc), ideally in the next town if you're living in an area of low population density.

For sure any post sent to your address is red flagged and checked more carefully.

Also, this business about China may not be true at all. They 'be playing with you' maybe. Trying to trick you into getting pissed off and ratting on your vendor.

Little did I know, that the vendor had sent the package, from CHINA.

If you're unsure, ask. If there's a country you don't want to, or can't, receive packages from, mention this to the vendor and figure things out before ordering.

If there is a way to have something mailed to an anon address in Canada, I am all ears.  I don't believe such a thing exists here.  It isn't like the U.S. where you can buy a private mailbox.

It's not that, the buyer can't be blamed for this,  it's that all packages going from some countries to other are almost certainly going to get special treatment than usual. The vendor should have known that, which is why it's unlikely the vendor actually did send it from China. Not just because of suspicion, but also the shipping delays. Protip: shipping from a police state is bad for your health.

Do you live in, or near a city?

If the cops come back to you, you're going to tell them that after some thought, you've realized what is going on. That bastard from back in the day has decided to try to frame you and is sending drugs to your address.

And when he sends more drugs, to your same address, when the cops find them, you're going to panic, that some asshole is trying to frame you. You're going to seem legitimate, because it is legitimate. Why would you a law abiding citizen, do such a stupid thing as ordering drugs in the mail? Some jackass is obviously trying to get you in trouble. You're the victim, they have no reason to be giving you a hard time.

So now, this kid trying to get you arrested, may keep sending drugs to your house, but to be on the safe side, don't sign anything so there's no searches on your house. Matter a fact, some kid is trying to blackmail me, he keeps sending bunches of marijuana too my house!

I guess it was nice from cops to come and says things INSTEAD of as it would happen say in Russia wait till you get next letter and bust you much. Find someone who will be getting packages. Start growing your own. Get it on the street.

Seems like you got the Canadian version of the "knock and talk" and did a good job handling it, hence the RCMP getting so pissed off lol. Not sure how the law and LE procedure works up there, but it's pretty safe to say that you will be somehow flagged or watched via customs. I'd even abstain from ordering illegal shit domestically, at least for a while. There are many ways to find an alternate address, even in Canada. Actually I believe someone posted info on that as I was typing this lol

Just know that you handled the situation rather well. The same can't be said about 90% of those caught in the same predicament; those are the guys you see on the news along with a dubious cautioning such as "you can't hide, but it's only a matter of time until they catch you... bla bla bla bla bla".

- unlikely to be LE's own delivery because they would have had to know too many intricate details about your orders to get you the same subs & by weight, unless
they have been on to you for some time to build up enough intelligence and build the case.....

- its likely to be the vendors actions of getting it posted from china....
theres no harm in the vendor communicating with the buyer as part of the order process to confirm whether this sort of delivery is ok, cos thats the whole point of having
the seller profile as "selling" or delivering from country X, to put this down to my anonymity as a vendor and shipping methods would seem to be an excuse to not
providing a professional service....how about importing the whole 500g's yourself and then posting it yourselves from the country its claimed to operate from....
theres no harm in getting all creative with these shipping methods but does the buyer have an indication this is the case and what about their security...?!

- its my guess 95% of rc's are being manufactured in china so ultimately even if you've order it from a us vendor the only likely source to manufacture in bulk is china -the
factories are in the online news....

I am gonna jump in on this one.

Although I have yet to have a visit from the LEO's I have been caught out by vendors listing their source country on SR and then finding out that the product has actually been drop-shipped from a red flag country. This has to STOP!!

This puts the buyer at so much risk and goes back to what I have been saying for almost my entire time on SR that buyers NEED protection. This is a two-way street.

What's the phrase they use in the real world - 'truth in advertising' - it applies here as much as it does anywhere (perhaps even more).

I have made no secret that I am from Australia and perhaps sometimes I give a little too much info but it is all to help my fellow countrymen. Like most western countries there are a list of countries which ring alarm bells for our customs service. It's sad but it is the state of the world we live in. If vendors want to do well both financially and morally then buyers have to know what they are getting into when making an order.

If vendors feel uncomfortable about publically listing their true sources then at least could they let the buyer know after making an order where the product will be shipped from and of course give the buyer the opportunity to cancel without incurring a penalty if they find out that the true source is a country of concern?

I agree completely, but country of origin is very hard for vendors to give up. Naturally we want LEO to be searching through the Universal Set i.e. the planet, instead of our particular subset/country. While for a country like USA with a large population it makes relatively little odds, it's uncomfortable for those vendors in smaller ones. Thing is, with a country large enough, LEO starts using From/To States to configure their package profiling. Now, do we really want Americans having to declare what State they are from?

Similarly, a German or Norwegian vendor would want to be classified as 'Europe' rather than a specific country. That would be more analogous to the country wide anonymity our American colleagues have.

On the other hand, as a Buyer, I would want to ensure I don't buy directly from red flag countries. Thus giving those in red flag countries an incentive to lie, or add to their expenses by setting up anonymous proxy re-mailers as some in the Netherlands have been doing.

It seems like a somewhat intractable problem. More Buyer security vs More Seller security. I can only think that having a professional trusted remailer service for countries like India, China, Netherlands, and this to be made mandatory. Seems like there should be another way somehow.

In Canada anything from China/Asia is automatically searched. ANYTHING.
They are typically looking for cigarettes and prescription drugs. If your letter is the least bit bulky it will be opened.

India, China and Pakistan have zero concept of stealth shipping. They chicken scrawl 'GIFTZ' on the customs declaration and the address is always barely readable.

Now if you import from the US or UK, Western Europe or Australia nobody will look at it unless a poor job by the shipper.

Also I hate vendors that say they're in 'Europe'. There's a big difference between getting a package from Estonia, a known LSD exporting area than Germany. For buyers in Australia, getting anything that says Netherlands on it is a red flag. I don't see the problem in telling people where you ship from. Not like the cops can't order your stuff anytime they want and check it anyways.

Yeah, but look at it from their point of view. European countries are comparable in population size to states. So it's like Americans being forced to state they are from Texas or New York.

Now, that would be useful to buyers for sure. Useful to LEO too, which is kind of the problem.

Yeah, there is two sides of the argument, if too much information is given by vendors, it will make it slightly easier for LE to track them down.  They are the ones taking the biggest risk and most often, and SR should be aiming protection at buyers, I dont think too may LE would go to a great deal of effort to bust a buyer (unless it was a token conviction - we can get you on SR).

I am from Aus and would only buy from UK, US that is by far the largest volume of mail and would have lowest amount searched.

Having said that, there must be some protection for buyers, if a seller is shipping from a "red-flagged" country he should have to specify.  Shipping from China without telling is a pretty low act.  But looks like you handled it well.  Well done, didn't crack, and you are not going to give up buying from this site.  As a friend used to say "AA is for quitters"

I don't know seems like someone is pulling your leg about where it came from. Getting a package from China considering the SHEER volume of exports and Direct to Door retail business (think DealExtreme or Meritline), China is one of the safest countries to receive any kind of mail.

In fact, I have had more success with packages coming to Australia from China than the packages that I send myself from the USA.

Maybe Canada might be different. I honestly wouldn't know.

There are vendors with China connections who do not live in Chine. They are just middlemen taking your orders and getting a cut. The product is then sent out from China.

Hell, I didn't even do what I stopped in here for. How are you holding up with all this stinkybuns?
