Title: A Silk Road T-Shirt!
Post by: smodcastle on August 13, 2011, 02:13 pm
Ok, not sure why anybody else hasnt thought of this yet, but wouldnt it be cool to have a black t-shirt with white lettering and all it sed was "http://ianxz6zefk72ulzz.onion" across the chest? i guess thats kinda incriminating, but only in the way that wearing a t-shirt with a potleaf on it is, maybe less... i dunno, as a lil nerd i would love to see this happen. if anyones got pro means to get this done, i would totally buy. shit, maybe ill make it myself :D  <3  ~smod

Or maybe a sand-colored shirt with just the silkroad camel on the front in green.

I'd buy it

The camel shirt would be inconspicuous to the general public, but anyone familiar with the site would know what it is.

The direct link is an outright horrible idea. The camel is somewhat less conspicuous the only problem I can think of is it would promote a ton of blabbing due to questions about this Green camel. So it seems an overall bad idea as well :)

We can all get together in the same place and wear badges with our SR user names!

Anybody have a good idea for a location?

Capitalism at it's best. Selling your body for drugs - this is borderline prostitution, and I love it.

You guys are think this is a bad idea are paranoid.  At least in the US there's nothing illegal about promoting SilkRoad or visiting the website.  People wear t-shirts with cannabis leaves, NORML, MPP, Dancesafe.org, 420, Mary & Molly & Lucy  & Dubstep, and limitless other drug references.  Unless you hang around with some very well-informed law enforcement officers nobody is going to harass you for having a URL or a freaking Camel on your shirt.  99.9% of them have no idea what it is.  I'll make a bet, you wear a Bob Marley shirt and I will wear a Silk Road shirt and we will see who gets more attention from cops.  :D

I freely admit I am paranoid.
But I would like too add you guys make me smile ;)

Would be kinda fun to make camel meme with subtle reference to SR and release it into the wild.  I wouldn't wear a shirt but If I saw someone wearing one I must admit I couldn't help but smile when I saw them. Would have to fight the urge to wave.

oh my god seriously?!  ;D u just gave me a really big smile-on! i would wear the shirt with the url, to most people it would just be geeky but to those in the know its way more than that! its no more incriminating than being the only person on the block who constantly gets small, misshapen packages in the mail with no return address on them  ::)  now im thinking colors... freeman, dont order any til we talk about colors!!  <3 <3 <3  ~smod

I'm getting a quote for the green camel rider logo with the "Silk Road anonymous marketplace" just like on the front page of the site.  Unless I get overwhelming feedback otherwise, colors will be white and black to start in various sizes.  I may try to get some with just the camel rider and just the URL as well.  Entrepreneurial exploration: GO!

ok you guys i just had a scary thought.  what if like a LE officer person was behind one of these seller accounts, establishing trust, just waiting for something to do with his collected addresses. now, he can sell t-shirts, and all the person has to do is walk out of the house wearing the shirt as proof that he received it.... oh wait, but its not illegal to buy a shirt from silk road, is it? WELL, it would certainly take balls to wear it. i think it might make one feel pretty fucking badass, actually, um... freeman! expect this idea to take off as a new constant to the site, and dont forget who sed it first on the forums! ;)  ~smod did

Prob not the best idea to have the url, but the camel would probably be ok.

With that said, i would neeeeeeeverrrr wear it out on a regular day. I would certainly make an exception for big raves, festivals, and things of that magnitude. But that's it...

Your feedback is noted.  If I sell these, it will be Silk Road EXCLUSIVE!!!!!.  You will have to be a functioning member of the community to get one from me, at least in so much as you set up an account, jump through the hoops of getting BTC, etc.

Oh hell yeah!

First person to get a photo of themselves standing with a DEA agent (both giving thumbs up signs is optional) gets an 1/8 of their favorite weed OR two Roxi 30mg pills on me, from the vendor of their choice!  Feel free to obscure your face...but we have to see the agent's clearly.

Then the next time one the three letter acronym crowd gives you a hard time, you can include THAT with your email telling them to fuck off.

Maybe SR can take some of his collected fees, buy about 50 of these and send them to those Anonymous guys to wear the next time they picket Scientology or whoever.  Talk about sending LE off on a wild goose chase...hehehe ;)

Exactly!  It would be like being in an exclusive club and having a secret.  Most people won't even take note of the shirt.  Look around the next time you're in a public place and see how many people are actually taking note of what other people are wearing.  You could wear a shirt that says "I FUCK NUNS" and most people wouldn't notice.

I'd consider getting one if it was just the green camel; putting "Silk Road Anonymous Marketplace" seems like a bit much. You should make something with tie-dye, that's pretty much a surefire way to get some sales. :P

1. Leave a SR card or fliers in local clubs (not where kids hang out!)
2. Advertise in popular onion sites for BTC
3. Pay papers/blogs to write articles about us (it's the most common method in business world I heard)

Ssshhhhhh! Don't tell anyone. Buy/sell your drugs and be happy. SR stays open. Passing out fliers and writing about it on blogs will only serve to draw more unwanted attention. Keep it quiet. Ssshhhhhh!

Yeah, I'm not so much wanting to advertise or promote Silk Road to the general public.  Although, I DO promote it among close friends and my trusted networks.  I collect a lot of tshirts and I like wearing things that aren't carbon copies of what the other 300+ million people in my country are wearing.  Like some others have said, if I saw someone wearing a SR shirt it would at least make me smile.  I might even be "stoked", as the kids say.  :)

oh MAN, Raffael really missed the point! psht... just like on ninja turtles... :D  dude freeman, i am DOWN with the free shirt idea! i looked at the printfection site and i gotta say, it sold me on having just the camel logo with no words... looks great! i also agree with freeman that it feels somehow disloyal to the community to giv someone potentially outside of the community the license and profit of exploiting silk road's (our?) logo and wutnot. i dont know if thats WHY freeman doesnt like it, but thats why i agree wit em..... and cuz free shirt ;)   ~smod

Exactly.  It's like wearing a festival/tour t-shirt when you didn't actually go to the tour.  Sure, you can do it but that's kinda lame.  I'm not much of an elitist, but we're all part of a very cool "club" here and I take pride in Silk Road and the community.

Silk Road is a real-world expression of many ideas which I hold to my core.

In consideration of the feedback, I've decided to go with the solo camel rider graphic with no text.  I just spoke with the printer who is having the art department look at it and I should have a quote in the next day or two.  As long as the pricing is good and I can offer high quality shirts for a reasonable price and still make a profit, then I should have them up in a week or so.

how about we go out in public with megaphones and shout about how you can buy drugs online and give people pieces of paper with the link on it and how to access it?
i'm sure everyone will get a real kick out of that

on a serious note, i'd probably wear the green camel shirt

You want a Tshirt with a camel on it? Buy one from the cigarette company. Camels... I believe PhilipMorris owns them. Look into it.

Leave SR advertising to small groups of friends and word of mouth ways. No reason to buy nation tv ad space and put us all out there. Let like minded individuals find us on there own.

At the scientologist meetings/rallies/get togethers, lets hold up signs and where tshirts that promote building up America's infrastructure. Securing our borders and ports. Education for all, anytime. Help homeless vets. Promote the advancement of beautiful women. Something important! Not a f*n camel on a shirt.

ummmmm k?  well, me personally, i would like a large probly since itll shrink... meh prolly even large if its preshrunk. i want a color i can wear with jeans and i would like it if it was just the camel logo on the front and nothing on the back. with all the pointless graphic tees of wolves n such you can get from walmart, i really think of this more as a nod to existing community members rather than an ad to outsiders. nobody will think twice, theyll just think maybe im trailer trash and like the bargain bin :D but INSIDERS will be like... yeah... thass wassup lol ANYway...

I'd like a shirt with a camel and or Silk Road on it. Then on the back it could say "MrDdroMcGillacutty's #1 fan! " Or maybe "I don't often buy drugs. But when I do,  I buy from MrDdroMcGillacutty. Stay safe on SR my friends." Shameless self promotion ;) Lmao!

SR merch is a bad idea. Be content with being under the radar (sort of) for as long as we can. Enjoy SR, don't bring it down. Keep it on the "hush."

Kids today... Keep it real. Fo' sho'. Keep SR on the dl or we all end up cellies. And if I find out it is your fault, you will be taking a dirt nap. Quick. Word. Church.

SR merch is a bad idea.

And if I find out it is your fault, you will be taking a dirt nap. Quick. Word. Church.

I addressed concerns about Silk Road promotion at the beginning of the thread.  You literally think that what will amount to probably a few dozen tshirts with a green camel on them in the entire world is going to bring down Silk Road?  You think that wearing a tshirt with a camel on it is a greater threat to the security of SR than people buying pounds and pounds of drugs on a website and sending them through the mail every day?  You think it's a greater threat than an article in a magazine like Wired with over 1 Million readers?

And if it does you're willing to murder people for it?  How about you turn that hostility toward the people with badges and guns that want to put you in a cage instead of people that are interacting voluntarily on Silk Road.

Nobody here is threatening you or your business.  You're the only one dishing out threats.  Well, you and the pigs.

You should quote the whole quote. If not if is misleading. Don't change the context. No threats on general merch. Still very bad idea.

If SR goes down. And I wined up in a cell with the person responsible.... Ya. -1 celly.
Is that more clear? Yes, that was sarcastic. Don't misquote

I'm still working on it.  I've just been busy lately.  I had a conversation with the printer who was supposed to send me a quote via email but never did.  I have to follow-up on that and I need to pay up front for the run.  I have no idea about LexiSadie's shirt quality for that price or if they're silk screen vs iron on or what.  They might be great.  I do know that LS has great feedback forums and generally good looking listings, though a bit pricey all around for my tastes.

It's a cool idea in a perfect world but it's like those shirts with the giant pot leaf on them. I mean you are just asking for trouble from the cops. It's fucked up but that's the world we live in.  :(

You wear a pot leaf shirt and I'll wear a SR shirt and we can see who gets fucked with by cops.  I guarantee that no average beat cop and 99% of detectives would even know what SR is.

Just my luck, the cop that sees me in an SR tshirt will know what's up. I'd get the 1%er, lol. Fuck that. Why take the chance? I wouldn't wear a pot leaf tshirt either. I smoke a lot and DO NOT want to advertise. It's all about being low key. USE COMMON SENSE! If the cops don't know what it is, believe me when they start seeing SR camel tshirts they will figure it out soon enough. IF you don't have heat (LE) in your area you soon will. It's like a beacon!

To the (few) people who think this is no different than a pot leaf... uh, think again. Wearing a pot leaf suggests you smoke weed. Smoking weed and participating in drug trafficking are two very different things that draw very different kinds of attention. A pot leaf goes unnoticed in most places, especially where weed culture is more mainstream. A shirt suggesting your involvement in a market that governments world wide would like shut down, on the other hand, is pretty much asking for the cops to monitor your ass.
