Title: email account compromised
Post by: lost on July 03, 2011, 01:06 am
Hi all.  My email account thats associated with Mt Gox got hacked or something.  My email is linked to my blackberry and today it was asking me to verify my password.  When i put my password in, it said it was invalid.  So when i tried to log onto my email on my labtop its said "account compromised " and it made me change me password and stuff.  I keep getting spam mail for bitcoins but dont click them and add them to spam mail.  My password for me email is and was always different from what my mt gox account was.  I have no idea whats been leaked or even what was seen if anything.  What should i do??

you should probably read the contents of the e-mails and the page that asked you to change your password.

I suppose it was a gmail.com account. Mtgox (after their user database got leaked) asked google to mark all gmail accounts that are associated with mtgox accounts as compromised as a security measurement (many stupid people use the same password for all their accounts ...). so in order to prevent an actual compromise of the gmail account, google asks you to change your password.

so you actually don't have to worry since you use different passwords anyway.

edit: all those bitcoin / mtgox spam mails originate from the leaked databse
