Silkroad staff access, read and edit my PERSONAL MESSAGES! What the fuck?!

I have found out a personal message to me has been EDITED by silkroad.
Another user sent me a personal message, this was was not encrypted.

This message has since, many days later been edited by silkroad staff.

Some information was removed from the message and been replaced with a "censor message" that this information is not allowed by silkroad.
The information is about a high ranking person from older silkroad who is now working with police to bust old DPR and other silkroad users. (The information is public information and it has been all over the media.)

Soo.. Why the fuck is silkroad accessing, reading and editing my personal messages?

DPr has stated he has access to messages, and if it is a message that can potentially hurt SR and its not encrypted, I do not see a reason he shouldnt edit it. if the conversation is that private and secretive, you should encrypt.

It was auto deleted. They have said that there is a system in place that does this several times. It happened to me as well, big deal! That's why you use encryption for stuff that you don't want others to see.

This information is public and it can not hurt silkroad, unless this site is a fucking honeypot run by the DEA.
Because the person doxed is a snitch who tried to blackmail DPR, now he is working with police and he probably have a lot of silkroad user information that he stole while he had access.

Silkroad is now very afraid anything is written about this person and i have only seen this link censorship in discussions regarding this specific person or case.
All information is public, it is in the media end everywhere.

The fact that DPR is so afraid of us knowing about this snitch worries me.

Some items however are on the filter in which case you will see a message such as [REDACTED - xxx] where xxx is the reason for it being automatically redacted, there is no "censor message" or edited several days later as it is always done before the information is saved onto the disks. I do not ever aimlessly read through messages, they are only accessed when somebody brings it to my attention.

If you aren't happy with something in the filter then you can message me with the reasons why it shouldn't be there. But to clarify, doxxing any person is not allowed here and I have redacted addresses, ZIP codes and phone numbers.

I don't see why this is such a big issue that you need to create a thread about it, Unless objective here is spreading FUD.

You are totally free to have a pgp encrypted conversation about anyone you like censorship free and away from prying eyes.

It was edited several days later, because I did get the message from the user and accessed the link that is now gone and replaced by the censor message. "http://[REDACTED - DOXING IS NOT ALLOWED]/"

I know it, it seen it and I can provide both the link that was censored, screenshot of the censored message and thread all this started from so people can see the link is genuine.

As Ross is doxed why is this person who is almost at the same level and in the same case so secret? His information is public, he plead guilty and is now working with police.
He is a public person and his name nor what he have done is secret in any way.
Why do you want to protect him and not for example Ross and so many others who have their names written out in media and linked from this forum?

I would guess it the URL that one of Coachella's accounts posted claiming to "expose DPR". It was a cleanet URL that was pretty malicious. Synergy redacted all URLs he posted in that thread for good reason.

While i first said i thought it was silly that sr would care to set up filters surrounding peoples personal messages (and I do think that's silly, even if i don't think that doxxing is acceptable), because it will just push people off the site and maybe exchanging personal information, I also can't help but think that the whole thing could be avoided if people were using PGP. I do find it odd that a site with these libertarian ideals would go about deciding what's okay to say and what's not okay. But it should come as no surprise that the people administering the site would have the power to see what is on their site.

If i was DPR i'd go back to programming and leave this to the mod's though!

I PGP anything i send... xD even if its pointless information the only person i want reading what i type is the person im typing to even if DPR thinks hes gona read them they are encrypted because I dont know who DPR is and my information is sensitive

Not to mention, when you don't use PGP you also put the recipient at risk and it's a disservice to them with unencrypted info is sitting in their inbox. If they list their PGP key in the forum (look in their profile...), there's a reason. Always use PGP.

Personally, I think each forum member's PMs should be open to public viewing.  Maybe then it will be impressed upon some of the users here that you have zero expectation of privacy if you attempt to communicate without taking the steps to personally encrypt your messages.

There are various tutorials in the Security forum which explain in simple steps how to run PGP.  There's even a thread there for you to practice in.  If you can't be arsed to PGP your PMs, then I have zero sympathy for you and actually applaud any editing of your PMs, automated or not.  In this case it was the mods trying to scrub the forum of bad text which violates their rules.  Down the road it may be the feds doing doing man-in-the-middle or impersonation attacks.  We're playing by big boy rules now.
