WE RISE AGAIN
« on: November 06, 2013, 02:52:31 pm »
Quote
Dear Community

It is with great joy that I announce the next chapter of our journey. Silk Road has risen from the ashes, and is now ready and waiting for you all to return home: https://silkroad6ownowfk.onion.to [Warning this quote has been modified by poster]

Welcome back to freedom.

Over the last 4 weeks, we have implemented a complete security overhaul. This overhaul marks the dawn of a brand new era for hidden services, and it would not have been possible without the patient support of this community. So for waiting patiently; for offering encouragement; for keeping the community spirit alive in Silk Road’s temporary absence; for all of this and more, each of you has my deepest and most sincere gratitude.

It took the FBI two and a half years to do what they did. Divide, conquer and eliminate was their strategy… but four weeks of temporary silence is all they got. And as our resilient community bounces back even stronger than ever before, never forget that they can only ever seize assets – they can

I suppose who needs tor anyway? Hey fuck it let's just use chrome

Why direct people in launch thread to use tor2web? Why is this? Who runs tor2web gateway?  Do you know? I certainly don't ,but I'll tell you this ,you use the Link DPR is telling you to use and everything you do is possibly logged , how do I know ? Read the disclaimer.

Any traffic through the .to link is unencrypted by tor that means it can be monitored.

Read about tor2web doc do u know  who is in control of it?
tor2web logo
onion.to does not host this content; we are simply a conduit connecting Internet users to content hosted inside the Tor network..
onion.to does not provide any anonymity. You are strongly advised to download the Tor Browser Bundle and access this content over Tor.

Yup which is why you don't access it that way. The old road had the exact same thing. Its on every Tor link.

.to is a proxy server that proxies all TOR sites through to the clear web.

Its a way (which should NOT be used) to access Onion sites without TOR..

The old SR Could be accessed by .to and every onion site can be accessed by .to.

Read DPR thread I posted and ask why is he directing users to use it stop apologizing and think about it . opsec out the window, why is it in his thread ?

I know what it is I'm no fool, what I'd like to know is why is DPR directing users to use it?
I don't need tutorial on what it is ,I'm familiar with onion sites, some are not and they are being directed to use tor2web, why?

I can confirm that I saw the ".to" in the original DPR post. However I was on a friends computer at the time and used tor2web to get to these forums to show my friend that SR was back. didn't log in or anything don't worry  ;D

Is it possible that when using tor2web, it automatically changes all .onion links to .onion.to? Because when I first accessed the forums, I used tor, and i don't think I saw the ".to" in his post

To all saying there was a .to link - this is untrue. The .to link which was posted was a quote I made from clearnet source and that was a link to the forums, which was redacted within 2 minutes of the post. The post being referred to in "WE RISE AGAIN" has never linked to a .to URL. An error made regarding the market address was on Twitter and the forum when a www. was placed in front of it when it shouldn't have been which was simply an error cause by spellcheckers auto-inserting it.

EDIT: To clarify, the "WE RISE AGAIN" post is still in its original condition when I first posted it.

I suppose I could be wrong. When I first read the post, I was on my computer using tor, and I do not recall seeing the ".to". However, later that day, I used a friends computer to access the same post using tor2web over clearnet, and I am pretty sure I saw a ".to"

I am not saying that you deliberately or mistakenly put the onion.to link in your post, what I am suggesting is that perhaps OP accessed the post using tor2web over clearnet and maybe tor2web automatically changes .onion links to .onion.to, as I feel that is why i saw a ".to" as well

I can confirm that if you are accessing the a site via the .to network, it will ammend a .to to any onion link

This makes it look like DPR posted a .to link, but in fact it was just the .to network appending the url.

Feel free to test this. I just did :)

DPR you may not have said it but it wwew in your post here so its a quote, its in your post that makes you responsible for it, you should have modified it. I just hope no new players have bookmarked it and are using it. I waited days for someone to post this. If your moniker is beside it its your quote, as you know your word carries ereight so it must be unlike mine graphically corect. Its fine saying its edited but its still a post by DPR. Mods or someone should have been onto this. A tumbler and all the security measures mean nothing if a user uses the link in that post. Anyway that's my opinion and we all have them I still love silkroad and DPR:-)

The www link was a mistake, and if anyone tries gto use it that way, it will not lead anywhere (the www makes it invalid).

If you are still talking about the .to part, you should read the last post by Sarge. The tor2web proxy automatically adds that, to any .onion when you are browsing through tor2web.

Every .onion site has a .onion.to link, this thread was stupid to start. You could have got that answer with a google search - you are wasting the mods time starting shit like this, but not only that you are being a fear monger at it's highest form.

I believe this DPR is more compatent that the last - I highly doubt he is going to be providing users anything other than top notch security.

Just to be clear. The operators of onion.to could read and modify anything you do through them.

That means if you enter a pin number the could change that request to changing your withdrawl address and taking all your money with the pin number.

Not saying they are doing anything like that, but they are in a position to do that.

If anything, it serves as a PSA to people new to Tor not to use a .to link. The original purpose of the post was incredibly stupid, but there was still concern about it for reason.

.to is the worst thing

.to is a proxy server that proxies all TOR sites through to the clear web.

Its a way (which should NOT be used) to access Onion sites without TOR..

The old SR Could be accessed by .to and every onion site can be accessed by .to.

It does nt provide anonymity.  Tor2Web openly admits this.  why you would use a .to is beyond me.
