With BTC price soaring, I would be very wary about buying any right now, UNLESS you're ready to spend them immediately (e.g. on BMR or Sheep).  While the new SR is still being rolled out, it would be unwise to buy your coins now at +$300 a coin, when you may not be able to spend on SR for another few days...   just saying...

It could go either way though.  You could buy some and they keep rising (happy days!), but there might be a price correction and plummet in value right around the time you're able to start using them on SR.

I read a German article which showed that big players in the bitcoin market were manipulating the price rise with dodgy trades... with a lot of people getting very rich in the process.  At some point this bubble may burst, so they can start the game again...

I have 25 bitcoins in my original wallet, never tied to SR, when BTC were between $3-$4 at an all time low only a couple of years ago. A < $100 investment is at today's worth, over $8k. It's the only wallet I've never cashed out of. I am glad I played the exchange on that one. It's not a windfall by any means, but it's not exactly pennies either. I'll just keep it in there, and whatever happens...happens. Now if BTC reaches $1k/ea...I may consider cashing in that wallet!

Really? I was unaware of this. Honestly I had 2 vendor accounts on previous SR before they even started charging. I remember initially they would only auction off like 2 accounts/day or something like that & the bidding started around $150 I think. Well, I dont really have a problem paying the bond then, with the way the BTC is going now though it'd be cool if they paid us back in the amount of BTC we put forth & not the value at the time in return, but ehh, probably just wishful thinking... It'd still be even cooler if I could just have a vendor account. I know there a re more than a few people here that remember me

As long as you are just buying BTC for an immediate purchase, the price should be almost irrelevant albeit the risk of a sudden market collapse.  Most vendors I've seen peg their prices in Dollars anyway, so their product will always be priced at $100, for example, and the BTC price is just the number that equals $100 in said example.

I actually agree with him. I think it's a little risky to restart a black market and be all about security except for the paper trail. We really don't want customers getting busted; do you think newcomers will know how to tumble their own BTC? And what, if they go down, too bad for them? They were stupid and deserved it? No. We should prepare for these things--and we DID. But to launch this site without a tumbler and practically putting everyone that doesn't know what their doing (which will be a lot of people) at risk from LE is completely unacceptable. But hey, I don't run the site. It's DPR's call and I guess his call is that it is not of much consequence.

The bitcoin system right now will work in the same way but different orientation that the old Silk Road market did as the previous market did not mix coins, it simply made it impossible for X to determine who Y is so as a buyer you could not determine which withdrawal belonged to which vendor and which deposit belongs to which buyer. The idea that Silk Road mixed their coins in comparison to popular perception is incorrect, it did not protect you from an adversary being able to determine you used Silk Road if you don't take additional measures just as our temporary measure will be.

Our mixing system which will be implemented only days after launch will be very sophisticated and is designed to stifle adversaries from being able to determine which action is a withdrawal, which is a deposit or that the funds are even part of Silk Road and we have somebody who has already helped us solve how to do this as he was one of the best minds for the job in the dark net.

Well considering the new marketplace has been coded from scratch, it should be safe. LE have the old SR servers, which means they'll know what measures the old SR took, it's better to not use the same methods of security the old SR used just in case LE can compromise the website, but I have faith in DPR and the team

from what it seems like dpr's last post.. he's rolling out the full version site (BTC transacations, ordering deposits, WD's..) very shortly, which I take it to mean imminently. If it was days more of waiting he'd probably say so. Although, remember, there will be no mixer/tumbler yet so DPR has said everyone must mix/tumble their own coins (blockchain.info's shared send/receive or bitcoinfog) until SR rolls out their proper tumbler. This is very important.

There are a ton of bug fixes coming out with the next release, so everything should be vastly improved once it launches.

It will not only reveal the buyer, but the seller as well. Sellers will of course be using a tumbler, but the deposit address will be revealed.

has anyone actually READ DPR's post on the whole tumbling misconception?  The site, at go live, will "tumble" the same way that SR 1.0 did.  Which means its up to you to tumble the coins on the way IN and once they are in there is virtually no way to link any activity to any one person.  The "tumbler" they are working on is even more secure but by no means a deal breaker if not enabled.

As a seller I always re-mix my coins after taking from SR. The entire security philosophy of the Silk Road is that you do not need to trust the marketplace to protect your identity. This trusting the SR tumbler would defeat this philosophy.

Any system that lets many people use the same shared wallet will serves as a method of skipping off the blockchain for a transaction or two.

Please post proof that you can show blockchain history from when you:

Initial BTC Deposit --> Your SR address --> Your Seller's unique BTC address (lol) --> The seller's cashout address

I refuse to believe that you can do this.

Even the old SR tumbled BTC. I checked; I deposited to one of my buyer a/c's --> bought from another vendor --> coins out of escrow to buyer. Who owns the end address between tumbling/checking the blockchain and adding up random amounts to nail a buyer? And who owns the addresses in between?

Even old SR tumbled to an extent.

Even if LE were checking the blockchain, where is the proof that whoever owned the particular BTC address for any part of the transaction?

While I have and continue to be an advocate of the slow and steady proper launch of The Road, I don't feel it's fair to consider those a little peeved about it's delay to be "crybabies".

Many vendors, such as myself, made our livelihoods on The Road. Fortunately, other markets exist to allow me to continue and facilitate the system I've built but not every vendor trusts markets outside of The Road, and with rightful reason.

And on the flipside many customers/buyers who used The Road as their supplier(s) for street dealing know full well the risks of investing on a fresh and uknown market. And it's these customers that are dying to break into the new SR, as I'm sure their customer base may slowly be losing faith in their ability to deliver.

There's many respectable and real reasons for how a lot of people are reacting to the delay.

With that said, I'm in a much better position to be able to wait, but I can empathize with others in their frustration, which isn't aided at all by those who scoff at them for being this way.

Try and understand another person's point of view before branding them, we are a community after all, are we not?

Im honestly surprised at how excited I am right now. Its like the beginning all over again. I have the same feeling I did when I just stumbled across a thread over 2 years ago on Topix titled "Silkroad" I only clicked it because I used to play an MMORPG called Silkroad in my younger days, so I was interested to see what it was about & why it was on the Drug forums. I'm sorry we need to keep posting this D, but we believe one of SR2's first priorities -- after security of course - is to put out a hand to those vendors who were with Silk Road - faithfully for years with impeccable reputations their entire time before SR-1 fell to get these loyal vendors back on line with their lost vendor-ship's. You may understand what "Sarge" is asking for to verify our previous existence on The Road, but I for one - DO NOT! We do - did - however have a vendor page at the forums, but we very seldom visited the forums. We just weren't that big a vendor.

I guess the requirement/demand of attending SRF's and/or being an active member of same, is/was part of  having a vendor's permit was missing from our vendor hand book! Besides too often in too many of the SRF's threads, they are plagued with cyber bullies and wanna be 'shot callers' who with out forums, would have no life at all! That's not enjoyable or productive. We told support about this negative activity there years ago! As often as not, these offending bullies were the mods. Shrug? Sorry - that's just the way  it is!

No what? I'd be happy if I could just log into SR without having the 'wrong captcha error' kick me back 10 times
before allowing me onto the road. I wonder how many buyers trying to get in to finalize payment have no choice
but to abandon their consciencence attempts to honor the vendors and their responsibility to pay as quickly as
possible because they have to go to work or keep an eye on the kids - what ever.

And vendors; y'all must be going crazy these days trying to get in to check for all the things vendors have to
check on each day - several times a day - just to keep things runnin.

Everything else is a mute point if no one can get in or communicate with anyone if this captcha thing isn't fixed
or remove it! I doubt it provides any security and it's a pain in the ass!

i had this "wrong captcha" error a couple of times right now.

it is a perfect excuse for buyers why they couldnt finalize ("i tried many many times but couldnt get in ... so sorry ...").

i hope they remove it.
since it worked before, i wonder that it is there at all.
obvioulsy there were changes made to the captcha procedure, it might be better to roll back

there are many buyers that mail you every minute with "did you send?" , "when will my stuff arrive?"
etc., but as soon as they got their sending, they dont use computers anymore.
they are too busy consuming.

really, escrow is a hassle anyway,  but with such an error it will get worse.

i hope they fix it now.
