Did coachella write that piece? good to see they can't spell correctly either, it's "original" you dumb ass Brian Anderson!

"In other words, SR 2.0's admins, which include one "Libertas", a shadowy figure who was one the top moderators on the SR 1.0 (and who some even believe is the origianal DPR, or Dread Pirate Roberts), want to assure their fiending userbase that yes, their bitcoin won't be compromised. You know, not like the founder of the so-called "next Tor market kingpin", who made off with all his users' money last week."

I'm going to reboot and go read it, but I can guess the gyst of it with that quote.

I think a little FUD is good to have out there on clearnet. There's a few million new potential users out there that said "damn I missed it" when that Time magazine article came out yesterday. It's going to be a rush to the Silk Road over the next months or so, the BTC going up may even have a little to do with that rush.

I'd rather see a trickle of new users than a bumrush.

Good point, it will also further undermine the FBI's case against Ross, something I am sure has not escaped them given their 'victory' will have been rather short lived.

I wouldn't take anything posted to reddit serious. I'm pretty sure dod/coachella/etc has so many accounts he just posts and responds to his own posts.

I have withdrawn all consent to work with VICE or associated agencies until I see a full apology from the person who composed that trash for insulting this community. I have said it time and again, I am not going to work with anybody who wants to go about throwing derogatory pieces of crap online at the people here, especially when it is based on poor research and a complete lack of understanding.

i'm very happy that DPR won't work with journos unless it's done in a straightforward and truthful light. the forbes interview made DPR look like an absolute joke -- the whole "see me on your next 'top richest' list" was cringeworthy. at least now we might have someone who takes the public image of SR seriously

I'm confused, what part of the article that OP posted lead to this reaction? Or was it something published in another article? I just glanced over the article posted by the OP and I don't I read anything particularly bad unless it has since been removed.

As a side note, I don't disagree with your stance not to work them (I personally think its a good move). I actually believe that making public statements to the media should be avoided at all costs. Every word you put out there is another word that can be analyzed by LE to help piece together information. Regardless..

I'm just curious as to what led to the reaction.

It almost appears that all the false garbage in media/reddit, combined with the forum trolling, is an attempt to solicit anger or violence out of the community. It all appears to be a feeble attempt to get DPR or other members of the community to get heated enough to, well, repeat past mistakes of others.

Just my .00002 BTC on the matter

I dont really think you should be talking to any media or external connection as DPR. You role should only be concerned with the site and its management.

You should be hiring or appointing a PR spokesperson or an ambassador to do all the talking to outside parties. Let them be deal with this bullshit and you look after the real issues.

Not trying to tell you how to do your job or anything, its just my opinion.

i've thought about it and I'm fine with DPR talking to journos as long as he's smart about security and doesn't say stupid, egotistical shit like "I want to make it on forbes' rich list", which I think gave a lot of people the impression that he's in it solely for the money.

how many times have we read a news article since Ulbricht's arrest that completely lies about SR, what the purpose was, what was being sold there, etc.

I think DPR could help dispel some of the bullshit by outlining the SR philosophy in that we don't sell guns, murders or kiddie porn.

Dear all, I have received the following from the author of the above post:
Quote
It's come to my attention that an article I published earlier today might
have offended some of the Silk Road community, not least those involved in
the launch of the Silk Road 2.0.

The piece was in no way meant to be malicious or derogatory to SR 2.0's
userbase, or otherwise slighting toward the decision of SR 2.0's moderators
to delay the launch of that site so as to be sure its security is airtight.
If anything, we're of the opinion the article comes off as a brief defense
of that choice.

That said, I understand there's particular issue around the word
"fiending". The idea there was to show how the community, in the wake of
the SR 1.0, are eagerly awaiting a new, reliable alternative--or in my
words, "for a return to something like normalcy." It was perhaps a poor
choice of wording in the end, and for that I apologize for any harm done.
We've gone ahead and removed that word from the piece.

Once again, my apologies to anyone who might have been offended by the
article.

Respectfully,

Brian A. Anderson

I bet he had to choke down some ego typing that out, personally I do not believe a word of it but you asked for a retraction and an apology and you got it DPR so there you go.

if they were truly sorry then they would print that as a retraction column in their newspaper. i won't hold my breath tho.

all they did was take out the word "fiending" in the paragraph I quoted on the first page. that's it. no apology. also they didn't take out the sentence comparing SR2 to PBF

He doesnt even understand why we're annoyed. If you're so new to this community that you cant tell the difference between DoD's meth head rantings, and the real story, you shouldnt be writing a fucking article about SR in the first place. If you dont realize /r/SilkroadUNcensored is run by our resident paranoid schizophrenic meth head scammer, then you arent qualified to be saying anything about silkroad.

On the other hand, from the same company  http://www.vice.com/en_uk/read/good-news-drug-users--silk-road-is-back?utm_source=vicetwitter

A pretty decent article that shows SR in a good light, thanks to DPR interacting with the media positively rather than shying away.

It seems vice operate different departments independently, motherboard/UK/US/Germany etc and may not communicate.
But that's as far as any defense goes and I hope the author gets ripped a new one for almost costing them the documentary and any future working relationship.

That article was almost as trashy as their "DPR was a shit artist in our too good for drugs hipster eyes" piece.

In my view their documentary's are the only thing that isn't hipster garbage these days but then again it's hard to make a Documentary based on conjecture and reddit comments so I hold out a bit more hope for their collaboration with the BBC.

While it might sound rich coming from me if I was DPR I wouldn't support their documentary project without guarantee any future articles published were at least presented to me first
