Auto-delivery of digital goods
« on: October 20, 2013, 04:39:21 am »
You should add a feature that allows vendors to auto-deliver digital goods. For example, a vendor wants to sell an ebook, so when he's listing the item, there's a text box where you input the info that will be immediately delivered after purchase. This is a great way to save time for people selling digital goods.

Shouldn't be tough to implement this, and would save digital good vendors a lot of time.

Following a decision made 2 days ago, we will not be implementing this feature. Allowing vendors to distribute content to customers through the market in a manner where we host the content is dangerous as we feel it will put users into a false sense of security regarding the dangers of digitally delivered content.

Hmm I'm not entirely sure here but what I think Nox is suggesting here is not for the Market to host the Content itself, but just the Link and/or a a pre-configured Message. This is exactly how it currently works over at Sheep Marketplace, there's the option of giving the Buyer a pre-configured Message the second he buys an item which would in this case include a link to the Content in Question which would otherwise just have been sent manually anyway. While I personally agree a solution with a pre-configured message isn't bad there's significant leeway to improve in this field, I'm quoting an old post of mine:

2. Digital Downloads; Now this isn't my area of expertise and Sheep Market has actually been fairly successful in providing a Service on this matter, as they have the option to instantly provide a predefined message with for example a Download Link whenever a Buyer buys a Listing with that option enabled - Silk Road does not have this option and requires the buyers to manually contact all Buyers after the transaction has been initiated. There's plenty of ways to improve on these types of Listings as long as they're not treated the same as a Product with Quantity. Although I will say an interesting evolution on this Aspect beyond what Sheep Market has implemented already would be having the ability to setup multiple Unique Messages in Advance, so for example say you were selling ten separate CD-keys you would setup them in Advance and each time a Buyer buys that specific listing they get a Unique Message for each Quantity - it is of course removed after the order has been Finalized.

Burning Babylon nailed it. I'm not asking for a file to be uploaded and automatically distributed, but rather plain text. So apparently SM does this , and I assume it's been going well. Two more basic features I want to add into this request:

1. Removal of "address" portion for digital good listings. Clearly, there's no need for an address box for a non-tangible item so do away with it please.
2. Automatic plain text delivery for NON-digital goods. This could be abused, but I wanted to put it on the table just in case you're interested.
