Silk Road Discussion / Re: Is there still a SILC service?

Not right now, but a SilkRoad IRC server is definitely on the drawing board.

Silk Road Discussion / Re: Bloody redditors!

Dear all, I have received the following from the author of the above post:
Quote
It's come to my attention that an article I published earlier today might
have offended some of the Silk Road community, not least those involved in
the launch of the Silk Road 2.0.

The piece was in no way meant to be malicious or derogatory to SR 2.0's
userbase, or otherwise slighting toward the decision of SR 2.0's moderators
to delay the launch of that site so as to be sure its security is airtight.
If anything, we're of the opinion the article comes off as a brief defense
of that choice.

That said, I understand there's particular issue around the word
"fiending". The idea there was to show how the community, in the wake of
the SR 1.0, are eagerly awaiting a new, reliable alternative--or in my
words, "for a return to something like normalcy." It was perhaps a poor
choice of wording in the end, and for that I apologize for any harm done.
We've gone ahead and removed that word from the piece.

Once again, my apologies to anyone who might have been offended by the
article.

Respectfully,

Brian A. Anderson

(Exceptions to this include the very talented, lovely and brilliant Eiley from allthingsvice.com, obviously - sorry, Eiley I know journos get a bad rap so pls don't take offence) xo

The 99% give the other 1% a bad name.

I have withdrawn all consent to work with VICE or associated agencies until I see a full apology from the person who composed that trash for insulting this community. I have said it time and again, I am not going to work with anybody who wants to go about throwing derogatory pieces of crap online at the people here, especially when it is based on poor research and a complete lack of understanding.

i just spent all afternoon getting to 50 posts, clicked to generate an invite for a friend, only to get this...

Quote
Sorry, but you can not generate anymore keys for now.
Please contact your administrator to find out when you can generate more keys.

what the hell is going on? ..i demand answers goddammit

It is generated after 1 day, not as soon as you hit 50 posts to act as a secondary barrier to spammers who act quickly and then simply give themselves invites.

Quite simply - we have no idea, but the forum has received over 1.75 million views in 4 weeks and we're cruising past our records for the most online repeatedly for the last few hours.

so is an invite needed to sign up to the main site when it goes live later or what?

i'm guessing its just the forum to prevent spam, but figured i should check now before its too late.

The invites only apply to the forum, anyone may sign up at the market. For now unless you have an invite you will not be able to sign up here to reduce the amount of spam we have been the target of recently. I will be reconsidering this decision in a few days time depending on the success of the scheme and also find ways to allow newcomers to the community to sign up where they may not know anybody already.

At 50 posts you will be allocated 1 invite per day which are valid for up to 5 days once generated. Those with 100 posts receive 2 per day and those with 250+ posts receive 3 per day. Vendors receive 5 per day and moderators have an unlimited amount.

Silk Road Discussion / Re: Expected Delays

If there are security concerns they should be fixed before the site launches, even if it takes another week or two weeks.  I am sure you are all working very hard to get everything ready for us as soon as possible, and I cannot wait to see the fruits of your labors.  :)

Delay time is still not certain, but none of the team have slept in 70+ hours so we might need a little few hours before we go unconscious.

As said before, do what you need to do. This gives me a chance to go and celebrae Guy Fawkes night and see some pretty fireworks :)

Whats a few more hours after all?

Go celebrate Guy Fawkes night, bitcoin will be down for launch either way so purchases will not be possible except adding items to your cart.

This will come as somewhat a disappointment to many of you, but I believe it is necessary if we are to be secure from the start. We are currently considering adding hours to the launch time to allow us to continue fixing bugs and patching security holes that have been uncovered. In addition, it is likely we will disable the bitcoin process on launch until we can gauge the traffic more accurately - this is to protect your bitcoins as high traffic sites and bitcoin processes do not work well over Tor.

I will try to keep you updated, but launch time will probably not be 4:20PM UTC I am afraid.

Registrations are now possible, but only if the user has an invite code. Those who invite spammers or trolls who have their accounts deleted will also face repercussions so please only invite those who are customers or associates.

Off Topic / The Discussion of Child Pornography
« on: November 04, 2013, 02:46:36 pm »
If any members wish to debate the ethics, punishment, morals or whatever else related to child pornography, please do so below as it is becoming tedious for moderators to now keep topics in line and prevent every other topic becoming the battlegrounds for this debate.

I would also like to clarify the stance of Silk Road on these matters. The discussion of child porn centered debates is allowed, you are free to debate the morals, ethics, punishment, perception and evidence of the issue. However, the sharing or distribution of actual child pornography (such as images, videos or graphic literature) is prohibited. Whilst we are open for as much freedom as our circumstances allow, we are a drugs market and as such that is what we would like to stay orientated towards.

I feel there will be some who will not like this ruling. However, consider that your right to discuss drug usage on this forum is given the same protection as ultimately, there are also people against even discussing the usage of drugs. I will not be reviewing this decision unless there are extenuating circumstances surrounding it so please use this thread for all future discussion to prevent the rest of the forums becoming littered with the debates.

Our market and our forum are on different servers, but we will not discuss further our technical organization for security purposes.
