Silk Road Discussion / Re: Anybody know about this article.

The usual bad press and another outlet I now will refuse to work with for being ignorant of the situation. Silk Road will give you access to many more drugs than one person could usually procure on their own, that is freedom. A price of freedom (or as I see it, a duty and a privilege) is responsibility. If you are responsible, then it is very unlikely something would ever come to harm you given the resources we have made available to everyone. As Doctor X said if you put drugs on a table they will not get up and attack you nor harm you, the person taking them bears the responsibility and if they were wise and knowledgeable even bunk products would not harm them since they should have testing kits themselves which are cheaper than the drugs usually.

We have read this paper along with the many others currently out and have taken many measures to defend again it and in fact if you see my post on "Needle in the Haystack" there are solutions to fight against it further to as a community.

Customer Support / Re: BTC Exchange rate error
« on: November 14, 2013, 10:32:12 pm »
When the bitcoin price collapses, we cannot force vendors to ship out product. Yes it is unfair, but if we made it mandatory to ship the product I would expect a lot of vendors to simply not post it and so it is better to get some bitcoin back than not receive anything. It's a situation which we all unfortunately have to accept but we hopefully will have the hedging system up soon.

Customer Support / Re: UNFAIR BTC RATE
« on: November 14, 2013, 09:51:56 pm »
BTCKing - do not continue to spam my mailbox as doing so falls under the same rule as any other type of spamming and may result in a ban, I do not have the time to respond to your messages just because you disagree with something, it is getting ridiculous which is why I have ignored most of your mails because there are greater problems right now to deal with.

The idea that the price is unfair is totally ignoring the situation. We based our price on the volume of each market and give a weighted average between them so that each market price is represented according to their true size. We also must consider what is being stirred up as an outrage is quite simply not, the overwhelming majority of users will only purchase $50-$80 listings for personal use and given the difference is 1.5-2.3% the effect is negligible, considering it also sways in the opposite direction to favor buyers at times of stability.

At the current rates, when vendors cashout they also will lose some percentage of this. If I was to change the rate then vendors will compensate by changing their prices too, this fact has been largely ignored by most despite that I see these changes all the time not from a personal viewpoint but it reflects in the data which is how I draw conclusions.

In these volatile times, the rate will always be fluctuating heavily and we are doing our best to negate the impact it has of sudden spikes which occur, only yesterday the price decided to drop $40 then rise $60 - would it be fair on buyers if we then stuck with that dip precisely? No. We divide the potential for loss between vendor and buyer so any drastic changes can be reduced in a manner consistent with both sides. When the rates become more stable, I will take time to consider the rates again, but doing so in a volatile market is not wise as while you may be a bitcoin trader, I have responsibilities to both sides also on a much larger scale. When the price begins to collapse, buyers will have the advantage and often it is the case vendors will be the ones to lose out on a far larger scale so the trick works in both ways.

Silk Road Discussion / Re: We Have Takeoff
« on: November 14, 2013, 12:05:40 am »
I see other people have gotten confirmations recently on the BTC deposits....I still am lacking mine is the system still down?  Put mine in quite a while ago.

I can see you have a deposit coming in with 0 confirmations still so this confirms you definitely made it but there is nothing we can do, there is no error. My guess is that you've paid no or a very very low transaction fee so it will take longer to deposit. To speed it up you should place a higher transaction fee.

The method we use to grab the exchange rate has been updated and we have also modified our formula.

Quite a few bugs have popped up under the traffic, we're fixing them now so deposits, withdrawals and transactions have all been disabled. Anyone with outstanding deposits - they will not be lost so do not worry, the balance will be updated when they are enabled again.

Re: addresses - we are aware something has gone wrong allowing some users to finalize before a vendor has marked the product has shipped, we are fixing this now. Vendors should message customers to request their address again in an encrypted form as we cannot recover addresses.

Silk Road Discussion / We Have Takeoff
« on: November 13, 2013, 10:31:10 am »
I am happy to announce the escrow and bitcoin system is now active on the market after days of hard work and sleepless nights for our team who I'm proud to say have put in almost a supernatural collective amount of man hours for the past few weeks. We know we are not there yet, we have much work to do but I think this is the milestone we've all been waiting for and it signifies the next step of progress.

We have made some changes to the usual system to ensure all goes smoothly and not cause error which I will highlight below.

Feedback is temporarily disabled

To prevent vendors creating fake purchases and feedback early on to race ahead of the competition unfairly, we have temporarily disabled the feedback on site which will remain in place for a day or so to ensure everyone is on a level playing field. Users who make purchases and finalize their orders will be able to place feedback on these orders in a few days time regardless of when you finalize so don't hesitate to do so if you want to still leave the vendor some feedback.

Temporary Manual Support

We have added a manual dispute resolution process for now. Early on it is important to distinguish between bugs, attempted scams and genuine errors so when we are more confident everything is in working order we will deploy the resolution center.

Sub-categories

Vendors feel this issue is a big one and we agree, but not one which is urgent. We are re-evaluating the structure of products on offer and will be consider how best to go about creating the tree, but for now we will keep a stripped down version of the categories until we have decided what our next one will be to minimize how many times vendors need to keep going into their product listings and edit them.

Auto-finalize is suspended

We will enable auto-finalize tomorrow. To limit the room for bugs to occur and as there is definitely not going to be auto-finalize problems on the first day, we will not be enabling this immediately although the countdown for product orders will still begin (and be enforced when it is implemented). We will be creating a feature to allow vendors to set their own auto-finalize options too as this was a common theme on the roundtable.

Advanced Tumbling Options Are Disabled

The bitcoin tumbler/mixer is not yet enabled. We have a basic system already in place which like the former Silk Road only obfuscate which deposit/withdrawal belonged to which account, it did not however hide the basic in/out flow of them to prevent knowing it was even related to Silk Road. We will roll the full system out shortly but even then you should always take precautions such as using blockchain.info's shared send option or bitcoinfog as we have provided 5 addresses to work with for now and will soon add the option to generate more.

Finalizing Early

Vendors are not permitted to request users Finalize Early until they have completed 30 transactions. Any vendor asking to do so are liable to receive a warning or loss of vendor privileges. The escrow system is there to prevent scams - use it.

Feature Requests & Common Complaints

We have reviewed the feature requests section and also looked over common complaints and will be fixing them in the coming days. Please do not post repeated topics if it has already been said as we have much on our to-do list and will get around to them depending on their priority and bug fixes will always come first before updates. This includes domestic/country filtering, price filtering, showing Ship To/From on the main product listings etc.

I hope you all enjoy the new market release and as usual report anything unusual you might uncover!

Silk Road Discussion / Re: HOW ABOUT AN UPDATE on the launch update??!
« on: November 12, 2013, 08:47:56 pm »
I post in places brought to my attention, I don't often read topics randomly outside of feature requests and bug reports.

Full feature launch is imminent. Changes are already rolled out to the live site but only a few users have been told how to access it for a quick beta trial of the system to ensure it works. The bitcoin protocol is not something we can get wrong.

D.STORM - Do not direct people off-site for purchases or you will lose your vendor privileges. Especially to a site which says javascript is required.

and - You have just messaged me asking about your account "blue" so don't then turn out publicly and act like 2 different accounts.
