The bond system does not protect against long term scam opportunities and it was not designed nor advertised to do such a thing as there is nothing short of storing vendor dox that we can do to stop such things happening except proactively policing the resolution center. What it does do is prevent people starting scam schemes without the initial startup capital since we have found a lot of people who scammed in the days of no bonds are the people who do not have the money to anyway and have resorted to scamming to gain any money at all. Those are the people the bond system tries to protect against and as long term users will testify, higher bonds result is lower quantities of opportunistic scammers. The bond system however should not be seen as any means by which to verify if anyone is trustworthy or not, that is left to the judgement and gut instinct of individuals and collected intelligence from trends in the resolution center by staff.

SelfSovereignty is right about why this is happening. We pull our prices for each currency from the markets seperately so for GBP as in your example, we will pull and aggregate all GBP bitcoin prices just as we do with AUD. Given GBP and AUD have a much lower volume than USD it means their pricing is not updated as often, it has a small lag in price changes and the prices will be different depending on which currency you use.

As a fix to this, we will be updating shortly our system to reflect only BTC to USD pricing systems, from which we will convert the USD value into many different other currencies we wish to offer so that everyone shall receive the USD price (which makes up over 60% of the bitcoin volume as opposed to the GBP 4% and AUD 1%) which is converted to the currency of their choice using the lastest market rates. This should ensure any real price discrepancies are kept to below 0.5% and that each currency shall receive a fair weighting to purchase items and not discriminate against those using currencies forming only a small trade volume.

Silk Road Discussion / Re: these forums are nearly impossible to use

DPR: Yes it seems to be much smoother now, thanks. I have not had any server load errors for a few hours now.

Everybody else: It has absolutely nothing to do with Tor on my end or anything else on my end, server load error messages are due to ..... server load. Meaning that the server is not adequate to deal with the number of users, or something is configured such that the server is not utilizing all of the resources it has available.

The issue hits at how we allocate resources which prevents individual users slowing everyone else down should they try to DOS the forum by using database heavy functions repeatedly. In this case your average load was far higher than most users for an unknown reason so I adjusted the limits displayed on your account.

Silk Road Discussion / Re: no feedback=heaven for scammer
« on: November 20, 2013, 09:57:11 am »
Feedback has been initially disabled to prevent vendors trying to create a large volume of fake sales to get ahead of their competitors and prevent FE scams early on since everyone is on the same level. The feedback system is very close to being enabled however now everyone has had time to establish contacts. Everyone who has already made an order, open or finalized will also be allowed to leave feedback for those purchases too.

Silk Road Discussion / Re: Downtime
« on: November 19, 2013, 08:59:48 am »
We are aware of some issues which has prevented a number of users being able to connect to both the market and forum recently and we're looking into it, for now we have made some rollbacks until we can establish the cause of this.

@Coachella - Sure, tell us (in public) how you managed to obtain the server IP and what the current server IP is as well as software versions and hardware specifications and if they are correct, I will pay you for finding a security hole if it is indeed real.

Silk Road Discussion / Downtime
« on: November 18, 2013, 01:58:21 am »
We will be having some downtime this evening for both the forum and market which should be approximately 1 hour long. During this time please remain patient as we are working as fast as we can to bring it back up again.

Silk Road Discussion / Re: PHISHING SCAMS AND THE HIDDEN WIKI
« on: November 17, 2013, 04:37:22 am »
Not seeing the phishing warnings now...was I phished earlier?

Unlikely, the warning was shown to all users temporarily but we have now fine tuned our systems to only display it to those who may be on a phishing site.

Hi Coachella. You see nobody will take this seriously, but they will be concerned although no in the realm of enough to cause some kind of mass panic as you desire. Every time you believe you have legitimate information, you don't go public with it you usually message me demanding some amount of bitcoin (to the same address every time) or you'll release it, as you've done here, which is the same person you accused me of being a week ago.

If I were as low as the trolls here, I would post your dox on this forum and it would stay there for a long time, but I am not as low as the meth induced psychosis you are transfixed in so I don't need to resort to that tactic.

Silk Road Discussion / Registration is now open
« on: November 17, 2013, 01:16:54 am »
The invite system for the Silk Road forums has now been disabled. This is only a temporary break from the invite system and will be dependent on how the next day(s) fare. If we suffer from any major spam issues we will close registration again to give us some time on how to address such issues as they take up a disproportionate amount of staff time.

Silk Road Philippines Donation Fund Address: 1Ni9m1ffciS8r4PpCoix4EmdXdhkE2WsRe

I am sure by now you are all aware of the recent tragedy in the Philippines which has lead to millions suddenly losing their homes and security, but worst of all is the thousands who have lost their lives in it and the family around them who must now rebuild their lives even after such a great loss.

Here at Silk Road we are all very fortunate, we have enough money to feed ourselves, house ourselves and stay comfortable, although even in times of poverty in the western world this does not compare to the situation which has now devastated everybody in the Philippines after the storm. I am hoping as a collective group, Silk Road can help raise money for those in need and so I have decided to setup a donation fund for those in need in the Philippines.

All money in the above address will not be touched by any of Silk Road staff for their own purpose and 100% of the proceeds will go towards those who need it most. To ensure this I have made the bitcoin address one central pot which we will use to collect donations and thanks to the way the blockchain works, everyone will be able to see that I have transferred the money to the right places. Exactly where it will go and how I get it to them for now will remain a secret but it will be revealed nearer the time to ensure the receiving organization does not reject it simply because it is tied to us and I hope even if they are made aware that they will process it for us recognizing that it has a greater cause rather than send it back.

If you would like to donate directly to the Red Cross efforts in the Philippines using traditional payment types , you can also use the link below:
https://www.redcross.org/donate/index.jsp?donateStep=2&itemId=prod4650031

Before sending bitcoins, I would recommend you also properly mix them or use Blockchain.info's shared send feature so the above address does not become an intelligence gathering pot for law enforcement.

I personally will be donating and hiding my own contributions amongst your own for my own protection and I hope we can all spare even just a few cents for our brothers and sisters abroad in their hour of need.

Bitcoin foundation are a small group of people who believe they have some authority on the matters of Bitcoin, the problem of course being they do not. If it come to the position of Bitcoin Foundation against Silk Road, they are on a losing war path. Everyone who supports Bitcoin does so because of the inherent nature of the network and Bitcoin Foundation have simply folded to government pressure.

In the event of such issues ever being a real threat however, we do have contingency plans to completely nullify their efforts.

Bug Reports / Re: Cant withdraw money from account !
« on: November 15, 2013, 11:23:48 pm »
Yes, just slightly lower maximum withdrawal. We believe the error is in that we do not account for transaction fees in the withdrawal amount and so less must be withdrawn to allow a small portion of it to be paid to increase the speed of the transaction - we will however look into fixing this as soon as possible.
