Title: Orders cancelled before shipping should not show up as "refund" on buyers record
Post by: BashfulBetty on January 13, 2012, 05:26 pm
As a vendor, there are any number of reasons i may refuse an order.  The customer may not meet my requirements (I welcome new SR users, but only allow them to purchase one item at a time; I have to cancel multiple orders).  Sometimes the buyer messed up and didn't include an address, or screwed up on the encryption.

The easiest thing to do in these cases is to cancel the order, and PM the user with the reason, and an invitation to try again.  The problem is, if I do so, the buyers record shows a refund, damaging their reputation and making less likely other vendors will deal with them.  So instead i have to sort things out through PM, which is more work and more details to keep track of.  Buyers may also be forced to choose between learning how to use encryption software or PMing their address in the clear.

The buyers "refunds" stat is supposed to be an indication that a package sent to the buyer did not arrive.  Nobody benefits when this stat also includes cancelled orders the seller didn't send.

Solution: a buyers 'refund" stat should include ONLY orders that were cancelled after shipment was confirmed.

I wasn't aware it worked this way, but I concur with your conclusion.

Agreed. I nearly cancelled an order this week and I would have been really sad to lose my 0% refund rate!

Canceling a buyer's order does NOT affect their stats in anyway.  It's as if the order never happened.

I read this before SR posted, so I fired up my buyers account and made 3 purchases.

I cancelled one right away.

I marked the next two orders as sent.

One I cancelled, selecting 'Never sent' as the reason.

The other one I cancelled, selecting 'Never received' as the reason.

In NONE of the cases was the buyers stats affected, and in all cases I got the full amount back I had spent. (The price of BTC hadn't changed, and I don't used hedged escrow as a vendor.)

According to a query I had with SR before, stats are ONLY affected if it goes to the resolution center, and sometimes it's 'ignored' in the resolution center if the vendor is unresponsive.
