Bug Reports / Re: any captcha is valid?
« on: November 10, 2013, 10:34:50 pm »
You would have thought a serious problem like this would be seen to a bit faster

If you have a 5 character or longer passphrase, this is not a problem, CAPTCHA's on the deep web are like a placebo given the latency and speed limitations, plus we have optional features such as PGP authenticated login to prevent these problems. We have actually fixed it and will be rolling it out with the bitcoin transaction update shortly.

Thanks DPR. Does this mean wallets are being made available?

DPR just said this isn't a democracy on the allocation of proceeds. They will go where they need to. I'm sure if there is a need to establish a load balancing system due to high traffic or something, DPR will look into that, but at the end of the day it's his site. His rules. The fact that he is donating some of those proceeds to "other projects in the interests of freedom and liberty" as opposed to keeping it all for himself should speak volumes.

Now this is a troll thread that we can just ignore, stop feeding them.

I don't know, Syn. I got a good laugh from Alfred's response.

Are you seriously posing the question of if it's OK to hire people to murder others?

Silk Road Discussion / Re: Not impressed with the weed listings so far...

Am I the only one that's not too impressed with the weed vendor offerings so far? I'm looking for personal use amounts that are domestic, and it's slim pickens. Where are all the 1/8ths, 1/4s and halfs at?

I'm concerned that there aren't going to be enough of a variety of market offerings on opening day to maintain a good/quality supply to buyers such as myself that are planning to buy on opening day. I think supply is going to be an issue....there isn't enough.

where are you based?

I will have lovely organic outdoor when i get my listings up.  Mostly in small amounts

You probably should not be asking that.

Feature Requests / Re: Mandatory PGP encryption for all orders !

I'm guessing you asking tessellated but I'll just chime in by saying that anyone who thinks that the site should handle decryption might as well not use PGP at all seeing as it would defeat the purpose.

Artist

Sorry if I wasn't clear. My question was actually directed at you.

You are right in that it would defeat the purpose. As I had stated over PM, mandatory encryption on the site would require either a universal key used to encrypt all messages or the user imports their own key to encrypt it. Either option has risks.

It was clearly not just their criticism that got them banned. I have also been quite critical at some of the choices made by the administration (particularly regarding marketplace security) and have not been banned or even warned. I think there was something else at play here other than their criticism. If they say its because it was likely Coachella, I would actually believe that. That dude is a nutcase.

Artist

And I have been critical of the invite system as it is, but I am still here.

Artist - If you take a look at the thread he posted and the snip of code I took from the URL he linked, the cause of the ban is much more than just being critical:

From what I see that code doesn't look particularly malicious, just some stupid widget or something. Anyone ("everyone who isn't an idiot") who is running noscript shouldn't be affected regardless.

Artist

It was a clearnet URL. People would be accessing it outside of their Tor browser where they would likely have java script enabled. It was a stupid widget, but by caching locations of people who access it, it only serves to harm.

Just out of curiosity, would you like to see the decryption process take place on the site as well?

Critical of the temporary invite system?

I wont start on it again in this thread, but if you are interested in my concerns, check out http://silkroad5v7dywlc.onion/index.php?topic=2466.0;all.

I'll just copy/paste my post from the other thread:

Welcome, mate. As someone new to online vending, you will find this is a great place to ask the right questions to make you be successful at it while maintaining protection for yourself and your customers.

On a different side note, I've always had a hard time finding a good syrup vendor. What are you charging for that?

I'm guessing that a lot of vendors that were not verified from the old road are waiting to put up listings until the site is fully launched. After all, the BTC transaction process is still locked at the moment so I don't even know if new vendors can pay the bond. Many more listings will be put up once the site goes live.

So far the only accounts that i have seen to post complaining about how the mods are allegedly censoring these forums following the banning of a coachella account(s) have been for the most part founds to be yet more coachella shills.

That is not to say every dissenting voice is cochella though and the admins/mods take the banning of accounts very serious and only do so when we have fully verified it is him, no one gets the ban hammer on a whim.

We have already seen how destructive an influence coachella can be on here, his ban is for life and will not be overturned, he earned it.

Synergy

Proof?

This might come across as rather blunt but to put it clearly the administrators and moderators will run this forum as we see fit within the rules set-down by DPR and we are not beholden to you or anyone for that matter to provide you with anything.

If you have a problem with that please feel free to exercise your right to not participate, in case you hadn't noticed we are not running a democracy here.

If you feel like spinning that out into some conspiracy theory then go for it but what I have said has needed to have been said for quite some time.

Synergy

No need for conspiracy theories here, i understand you. You know in all my years of dealing with kids the one thing that has always stood out is that the harder they fight the closer to the truth you are. This is what i mean when i say it doesnt help your image to ban people for speaking critically, this is how governments and children deal with things they dont like.

While it saddens me that so many people have decidedly jumped onboard beneath a moniker created by someone not much more experienced than you, it does so even more that the face of this revolution must be framed with the innocence of youth.

Proof?
