PIN is your second password. For withdraw, sending to another user and for the purchase.
Pin is input when registering account and if system did not ask you then you can try with the following link:

When i registered my account (more then half year) i did't see any PIN or second password.

if you registered that long ago, then you should have gotten a prompt when you logged in a couple weeks ago.

Well looks like I'm in the exact same boat as you.  I honestly don't remember setting up a PIN when I established an account but w/e, it's in the hands of the trusted support team.

Having the same problem, getting the "you already have a pin" error when I attempt to create a PIN with the link posted above.  I created my account a good 10 months ago and have never created a PIN.  I hope this is fixed soon!
Title: Re: What is PIN??
Post by: shocky on January 12, 2012, 07:46 am
yeah, if it had said "second password" I would have guessed it, but PIN refers to a number, not a second password.
so now I'm locked out and can't buy anything

anyway to fix this in less than 7 days?

this feature isn't implemented properly, not only is it confusing everyone, but it's causing problems when you have to re-enter a PIN while placing an order because of flood protection. . .
bad idea, SR.

Hello,
Today when i wanna Buy, i had to write a Pin.
Cause i´m not sure whats my pin is, i tested various. After some time it appereas that i only should click one time on Order.
I thinked that means that the Code is incorrect. So i used all my 5 Chances, but bevore that, i wrote to the Support, cause of the Key, now i should contact the support either in 7 Days. My Silkroad name is whiti. Maybe we can do it bevore the 7 days, but for this i need a support answer....
I hope the best, and that i can order today...

I got some redirect to a site saying:

"sorry, maintenance is taking longer than we thought, ....."

But it seems that nothing in regard to the PIN has been changed :(

PIN AND SECOND PASSWORD IS THE SAME THING (they just put name "PIN" instead of "second password")

Your PIN is your second password.

You should hopefully know what this is as it's a fairly new feature they've recently implemented.

Why they decided to call it a PIN I have no idea, especially when they initially call it your '2nd password' when setting it up.

I have never specified a second password or PIN. It says I already have one when I try to make a new.

What am I supposed to do?

Got the same thing Marenghi, as far as I know all we can do is email SR Support (click contact us on the main site). Looks like some people have managed to get it reset this way.

Wait like the rest of us I guess. I HATE the fact that I made promises to vendors that I am now not able to keep. SR is making me look like a scammer.

How did 99% of us somehow miss the 'set a 2ndary password' notice?
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Edit:Turns out I DID have a 2nd password. The 2nd password I tried twice already, finally worked on the final attempt. Not sure if SR took action, or what, but pages arent taking 50-70 seconds to load anymore either. So hope is around the corner for all those stuck in between passwords or who had their 'pin' reset to a mystery code

I got "Please message me again in 7 days, that way I can confirm you are the account owner." sent to me twice.

I have no idea how waiting 7 days will confirm anything... Perhaps the silkroad site was hacked or something and after this they'll be like "please enter the last mailing address you used to confirm you're the original owner"

Got this very unhelpful response from SR support

Quote
re: Pin number

Sorry, but the whole point of the PIN is to prevent someone who gets into your account from withdrawing money, so we can't honor requests for a PIN reset coming from your account. You have about 10 attempts to remember your PIN before it is reset and you are given further instructions.

~SR Support

Yes but I was never given a pin. guess i have to put it in wrong 10 times and see what happens.

I never setup with a second password or pin either, and others seem to be in the same boat. Have to wait 7 days to get reset too its ridiculous

I hope not. Another user also said that they were made to wait 5 more days after the 7 days. I'm on day 3, If i have to wait 5 more additional days...

Can you please copy and paste the message SR Support sent you, saying that you needed to wait 5 additional days, for more info?

Matada you never messaged, that is untrue. If you did the message did not go through, but certainly everyone is being answered within 7 days. Your PIN is the secondary password you were asked to set, either at the creation of your account or afterwards. If you do not know your PIN, take some guesses, after 5 attempts it will lock you out and you will receive an automated message about Reseting your PIN. Reply to that message 7 days AFTER recieving it to get a new PIN. This is for your own security to make sure there are no other request for your account, a step taken to stop the phisher problem or at least severely reduce it. This will keep a phisher from getting your pass and just requesting a reset and taking your money, or making an illicit transaction and finalizing to take your money. I'm sorry for the inconvenience but this is for your safety. Please be patient, our admins have a lot on their plates.

Peace,
DigitalAlch

It has been a week for me and I am still waiting for SR to get back to me to reset my PIN.  Anyone else have any luck getting their PIN reset yet?

Its the thing you set along with your password and username when you created your account. "withdrawal." Quit making these fucking threads and utilize the search bar that was also given to you upon creation of account. Unless you forgot that too?
