Title: What is PGP?

Hi as you can probably tell I am a newbie here and there's a few things I don't understand.  Can someone explain GPG to me and how does it work?

if you search both the forums and google, you will find plenty of resources regarding this question. Take a look around and come back with some more specific questions if you need help :)
