Title: Mushrooms In The Mail
Post by: WiredLain on August 12, 2011, 11:51 am
I am new to The Silk Road and I am strongly considering selling my home grown shrooms on here, but I don't want to go and pay for seller status until I have all my basses covered. Most of my worries lie with the shipping. I took a look at the thread started by the former postal worker, and picked up a few things, like using priority mail so it spends less time in transit, using inconspicuous packaging, etc.

I was thinking of paying for flat rate boxes from USPS and using a fake return address/name, and sealing the mushrooms in a plastic bag within, but I am not quite sure that is enough. Any advice on sending mushrooms would be greatly appreciated, especially if you have done so first hand.

Thanks in advance!

weed looks and smells like weed, coke looks like a suspicious looking powder that is easily tested, but mushrooms....there is thousands of legitimate types that all look the same when dried.

Yay, a post just for me :P. Don't worry, shipping mushrooms is pretty easy. I don't think they're really looking for us.

I don't think we should be discussing full on details here, but here's some notes to point you in the right direction.
- Fake return address, yes, but make sure it's still VALID. Pick something feasible for the size/weight package you are sending, and switch 'em up.
- Weight. Those small flat rate boxes feel practically empty with a lil baggy of shrooms in there. Why is this guy sending all these package at the flat rate $5 when the package weighs <2oz? Kinda fishy.
- Gloves. Odds are your package isn't going to be suspicious enough to tip off anything, but if you want to sleep at night you won't want your finger prints on -anything- inside or outside of that package.
- Buyers might want extra discretion. Consider grinding and capsuling your shrooms so it's not immediately obvious to someone who might intercept a buyer's package, or be there when they open it. Capsuled mushrooms look like practically any other white-ish herbal supplement.

Welcome to SR! I was getting ronery being the only shroomer in the US (and I might have to take a break so somebody's gonna have to take over).

SG

A, Great Name- Serial Experiment: Lane is F****ng amazing.
B. Everything the poster above me said EXCEPT -
Please leave it up to your customers whether they are in Pills are not. I have considered buying shrooms on here a few times but seems like everyone want to powder/pill them.
Put shrooms in plastic bag with some air left (so it makes bubble) - then vac-seal it twice. Put this inside some paper (possibly add some stuff for weight like she said -candy works great :) )
Good Luck : )

Peace,

I hadn't really thought about it but you are completely right. Makes sense.

THIS helps SO MUCH!

Thank you very much, that is the kind of advice I needed, all fantastic stuff.

I agree, I will leave it up to the customer whether or not I put them into capsule. Now that spacegirl mentioned the weight issue, I am considering padded envelopes, which would make the weight a non issue I think. Also great advice though, I will definitely use the packing method you described.

And yes SEL is fucking amazing lol.

Yes, definitely offer all of the above: whole, powdered, capsuled. I believe most  listings I've seen do this. I just grind by default since I got enough requests for it and it gives me more packaging options.

-Small- padded envelopes also fit into most mail boxes, whereas sometimes mailmen won't put the small boxes or large envelopes in the box. Apartment customers aren't going to like having to go to the office and possibly sign for their package.

And yes yes yes, Lain is awesome :)

I will definitely leave the option to the consumer, seems to be the best idea. I don't know why, but I assumed most people wanted whole shrooms so the idea didn't even cross my mind! Thanks again to everyone, all of this really put my mind at ease in terms of shipping. One thing I thought of today though, about finger prints, is there any way to get them off of packaging? Just in case I goof and manhandle a package, I don't want to have to get a whole new one. I imagine since it is paper, you can't just wipe it off, but I could be mistaken.

And yes, this thread is full of awesome lol. I wasn't sure how helpful other members would be, but turns out I was able to get some genuinely great advice.

WRT fingerprints I've heard of people wiping with a damp cloth or alcohol'ed paper towel. I have no good way to test this, but it makes sense that it could smudge them up pretty good. My hunch would be to use some oil or solvent since the finger print is left by the oils on your skin you'd want to use another oil to smudge it. If you're really worried though I'd just toss the packaging. It's all pretty cheap and should only take a couple minutes to repackage.

A few years back SWIM recieved multi-pound shipments of mushies every time with simple easy packaging:

- Priority Flat-rate boxes

- Broken into QP shipments

- Mushies packed into gallon zip-loc bags, then wrapped in a garbage bag w/ heat seal (ie put the ziplock into a black garbage bag, put all of it inside the flat-rate box, blow some air into the garbage bag, and use a hair dryer/heat gun to heat up then seal the bag.)

- Legit return address of a business in the same zip code as the postmark

Thats it...  x-country shipments never got looked at.  One time the zip-lock got poked somehow in transit (looked like a nail went thru the package), when it was picked up *at the post office counter* the postal worked says "here you go, it smells weird though" .  No problems...

TL:DR - Mushies aren't high on the priority list.  There are no dogs trained to specifically smell "psychedelic" mushrooms as there are so many legit mushrooms for eating that smell identical.  No need to worry much.

That is what I was thinking too, I might experiment a little bit just to see what I can come up with. Alcohol seems like the best bet, since that would in theory dissolve oil and evaporate quickly.

Good to know, thanks for the information, especially concerning the drug dogs.
