Title: Technical question...
Post by: chronicpain on July 12, 2011, 06:24 pm
I'm somewhat of a noob when it comes to all this new technology. I was wondering if purchasing a VPN network thru hidemyass.com would tor work with that just fine? Im using a mac mostly. I think it would make it nearly impossible to find my ip. Even if the LEO puts a trap or whatever its called on tor.

That way you would use somebody IP on that web service and any IP trace would point to that IP and not yours. However, there are potential that traffic between your computer and computer from that web service via VPN could be monitored.
You have good safety as it is.(IMO)

more likely to hurt your anonymity than help it imo, particularly now that you mentioned the specific VPN you would be using. But yes, you can do VPN + Tor. The primary advantage of this is hiding the fact that you are using Tor from a local observer, nobody is likely to trace you through Tor as it is.

It probably wouldn't be the clincher, but would say it deff would pose more risk than potential to help
