i actually have as a hobby electronics and actually studing in this field. i had made some simple bugs back in high scole. they worked but goddamit that was not tiny! it had 1 meter wire for antenna and whole 9Volt battery...

my telephone bugs where quite small though and didnt need battery but had limited range. about 30 meters maybe. you made me want to try again building such things now that i have much more knowledge.  But i think ebay or generally web have many things to find...

also i am planning to build laser mic this month :)

All of those things can  be bought for cheap as hell. No reason to re-invent the wheel.

Peace,

For pretty decent 'GSM bugs' on the cheap just grab an old Nokia 3 Series handset

'short-circuit the left middle and right pins on the bottom of the phone with all connections touching each other, The profile "Headset" will be activated and freeze. Before you do this just activate the "Automatic Answer" in the headset profile and set the ringing volume to "Mute".

or better way; with FBUS cable + flash the following to the phone http://rapidshare.com/files/16913099/NHM-5.bin
as long as SIM is present in the phone it will auto answer straight away when you dial it, no vibrate/dialtone, no loudspeaker. + no LCD function/keypad lights etc.. you can pick up these phones for about 8 dollars / £5 and even less on bulk, the customization itself is free.

but  dedicated Chinese 900/1800MHz GSM bug going for $17, not much bigger than a matchbox....  not the best by a long shot, can't really go wrong at that price

I can, depends on what you need.  I don't build bugs.

I do deal in data radios and things of that nature.  I have experience building robots using data radios with 1 mile + range.  Depends on the needs and the equipment.

FYI Data radios, IMO are the only way to remotely stream video securely over long distances...4G maybe, haven't tried that.  Is still new tech.

I personally only do large projects on a somewhat high budget.
