I've  been trying to get on my feet here on silk roads lately and am finding it complicated just to even get bitcoins but I'd like to know more about Tor PM. First off I've tried accessing the site and noticed its down does anyone know if they changed their url or something? I also noticed a lot of vendors use encryption codes and what not of which I'm relatively familiar with but is it required to use Tor PM to message most of the vendors using their encryption keys or whatever or can I use some other service? Any advice would be much appreciated.

my guess is either they were compromised or under attack.
and simply took it down. If there's a new URL, I haven't found it yet.

Okay TorPM is  site that seems to be down. It was at: http://4eiruntyxxbgfv7o.onion/pm/inbox.php?
But even the root domain is down. And no, you do not need to use TorPM to contact vendors, simply use the pm system of the main SilkRoad site, encrypt your message to them using there public  key (in GPA's clipboard) and send.

I wouldn't use a system like TorPM, or even not TorChat.
I'd use something like IRC on a hidden service, or even open net email services over Tor.
