Onion.to is so that people can access .onion sites without having Tor installed. Right on though, probably not a good idea to access SR or anything like that from any computer or internet connection traceable to you. It's not anonymous; your ISP and hence anyone eavesdropping that traffic will easily know what you accessed.

This has been addressed many times before.  Onion.to is a clearnet gateway for TOR hidden services.  It is owned by Xxor IT security company.  They can see your username, password and all of the data when you're using it.  Google spider crawls onion.to so pages get indexed.

Yes, we always think SR need to try block onion.to access. have on clearnet is bad and people post onion.to link and click on by mistake all time.

We can't block it.  Onion.to can block SR but SR cannot block onion.to

onion.to is a fucking disgrace, if more people would just use tor it would help us all as a community. it is insecure as fuck. if people cant use tor as a minimum they should not be on sr.

Yeah!!! ::) There are many other interesting sites on the TOR network other than SR, so having it installed opens up a hell of a lot of stuff  (and not JUST illegal stuff)  you just wouldn't find on the clearnet. I can't see what the need is for a site like that, it only takes 5 minutes to install!! ::)
Although, i admit, drugs, illegal or legal, always have a magnetic sales pull, all of their own! ;)

i almost fell for it when i started... i was using TOR, but as others have mentioned, i forgot the SR link address so i just googled and the onion.to address was one of the first that came up. luckily i went in thinking someone might provide a phishing site so was careful about double checking the address from multiple sources.  sure enough... i then noticed onion.to didn't seem right.

i wonder how many bitcoins those schmucks have robbed from peoples accounts.

About sums it up. I remember a few months ago some people proclaiming they used onion.to to not only access the forums.. but to use the main site. Yes, you read that right.

wow.. I monitor the network I share and often use netstat -n
There are a few people on the same network that use TOR lol. when you don't use tor and only use onion.to you can clearly see where the connection is coming from.. onion.to = LE @ your door lol

ok since I had twice or thrice accessed SR Froums through onion.to,should I delete my User account on SR Forums to play safe, since usernames and passwords get detected via onion.to or should I change my password a couple of times and continue using SR forums

Any advice?

change your password, log out, log back in.

change your password, log out, log back in.
But for God's sake, don't do it when you're logged in from onion.to...

Best bet is to get the fuck away from onion.to, log in from regular Tor, change your password, edit all your messages to be totally blank, log out and make a new account with a new IP.

I thought onion.to is useful when you don't have an access to an computer with tor or don't want/cant install it to another computer(someone else s). Or is there better options?

If you don't have Tor on your computer, don't access hidden services. Don't take short cuts with your security. Don't let onion.to sniff your passwords.

you should never use onion.to.  if you're concerned about not wanting to install something on someone else's computer, then use a Tails LiveUSB or put Tor Browser Bundle onto an encrypted USB.

there's really no reason (or excuse) to use onion.to.

Oh, thanks. I really didn't know that onion.to was something hated in here and dangerous :-[

the biggest problem is that many people assume that .onion and .onion.to is the same thing. i wonder why was it even created considering that tor2web.org could be used for the same purpose and was much less ambiguous

Is it safe to use an onion.to from within a TOR browser?

Why would you do that? ???  No it is not.  You are leaving the TOR network and allowing Xxor to capture your username, password and all of the data.  Also allowing the NSA to capture the data.  Why would you want to leave the TOR network? ???

Not intentionally. Somehow the bookmark I have for BMR- at which I am registered and very rarely browse though never purchased anything- is a .to link.

Sorry for going off topic a bit here but do the other "hidden network" providers, other than Tor, have different hidden services or are they just part of the "onion" thing.  :-\
