The buying and selling of vendor accounts is expressly prohibited. If an account is found to have been bought or sold from a source anywhere other than Silk Road itself, it will be shut down immediately.

Yup, it's completely against the rules due to the possibility that a vendor could sell their account (along with all their feedback) to somebody who decides to take advantage of that feedback and pull a scam. We can't control what appears on other sites, but if somebody attempting to sell a vendor account appears here, please report them immediately.

Actually, I clarified this with DPR and inigo last month. You ARE permitted to buy/sell a vendor account. Not sure how safe or smart that would be, but it is permitted.

I suppose it makes sense because if the new vendor did pull a scam, they would get shut down anyway.

Well, if it was one of us forums users that bought the account, and the transaction was publicly verified on here, wouldn't that be better than letting a brand name rot in oblivion?

I dunno. I can think of several reasons that selling a vendor account could put the new vendor, old vendor, and old vendor's buyers at risk. It still stands, however, that DPR does not prohibit the sale of vendor accounts, but not through the forums because you're not permitted to sell anything through the forums. (so you can still sell them on SR itself)

If you can't pony up the money to buy one, you may find yourself cutting other corners that post a risk to everybody!
Are a few reviews really worth it? What if some agency you don't want watching your account is?

Ah, thanks for the clarification, scout! Things have changed since back in the day!! For anyone interested in doing this though, Silk Road vendor accounts are essentially free as the $500 bond is refundable when you meet the terms of the bond!
