As the title says....
Each SR account could have two passwords:
Password1 accesses the account normally.
Password2 will erase All messages, account history, and send all BTC to the Backup Wallet addresses which are already built into SR.
after all that is done... Password2 will log into a blank account.
In the United States passwords are not protected by the Fifth Amendment.
This means that they will detain you indefinitely until you reveal the true password.
Password2 will allow them to log into the account but prove nothing!
The coding would be almost no work at all.
Almost everything is already built in such as Delete Messages and Backup Wallet Address.
I really hope this idea can gain some support.

That would certainly be one smart move on DPR's part, I'd say.
Smart little puppy for bringing it up.

What a great idea. +1 from me too.
I can picture myself pretending to cave and then giving the number up to those stinkin pigs..... Skipping and whistling as I leave the pigpen.

Excellent idea!
I would give you a +1 if I could.

I would love this feature, you could really make some feds look like fucktards.
I would make me destroy password something like
"Inuttedonyourwifepigfuck"
Lmao

Message this to DPR. This is genius. Or post this in Silk Road discussion as it needs to be seen.

good idea nice1 would give u karma if i could or knew how to... 8)
i just wanna add sth to that about the back up coin adress...: there s loads of different opinions about traceability of bitcoins but in general its known that not all transactions r safe as in "incognito"...
i d advice ppl to think twice whether they leave their back up adr. (which may be linked to their wallet at home with IP adr)!!!
correct me if i m wrong but i can tell u not many ppl know who actually invented bitcoin (incl. myself) so obviously there s many theories anyway... i can say i know ppl dealing with it since it came out + 1 mate created a well-known wallet himself so make ur own opinion...
my advice for this case only transfer as much as u need for when u need it... ( which may also prevent u from buying shitloads of shit at 1 time u get exited about sth. and stuff hahaha)
obviously vendor may face bigger issues but for me its a way i can sleep with... even without valium :)
curious tho what u think i ll return to this thread... magicpearl x

Very good idea! +1

Sounds like a pretty damn good idea. Just to clarify...in your plan, would we create our own unique kill password or would there be a universal one for all of SR? Either way, sounds solid and it's definitely something I would support.
-
great Idea but I never heard from this SR thing before and so I dont have a PW =)
but jokes beside... This would be great!
-
This is a flippin' awesome idea.

+Karama if i could! great idea!

Brilliant idea!

Great fuckin idea for sure BUT one thing... im really stoned right now and what if you just were fucked up and accidentallly typed in your Whipeout password and then all the sudden your just fucked... sorry for the use's of fuck so much but yeah fuck thats my 2 cents

This needs to happen.

Natural selection? lol just joking... You would have to make sure is was so different to your normal password that it would be very hard to get them confused. For example
Normal password - JHGgfjdh73946hHVshj
KILL Password - Password123
Obviously not so blatant but you see my point. :)

I like this idea. Whilst the chances of ever having to use this are very slim (if you are a smart vendor), it would still be nice to have that as a reassurance in case we did get caught.
It would benefit buyers too if this ever happened. It's not very likely to happen, but again, still a nice reassurance.
-
Love it. I know a BMR user who keeps two accounts just in case. But if they get your user name it wouldn't help.
-
Another wonderful idea that will not be implemented by SR administration :-X

This is a great idea. But chances are LE will never find out about SR unless you confess.
-
If DPR doesn't incorporate such a thing you could do this with a few firefox extensions and a script.
I may look into this and try to get an open source script going at some point.
-
Yep Great Idea .... now ...who's gonna get it happening? IDK how?
All I cann do is post here and agree with this VERY simply brilliant idea HASH +1 amigo ; 0 )

simple yet genius idea

This is the stupidest idea I've heard in my entire life.
* Cops find out you sell stuff on Silk Road and can see your listings.
* Somehow, they find you because you posted it with a return address or something fucking stupid, you were stupid enough to have this stupid idea.
* They detain you.
* You give them this dubious second password.
* Suddenly all the listings are gone.
* You get the additional charge of obstruction of justice or destroying evidence, and the username matches your listings which they found and saved. Maybe that will mean no evidence was destroyed anyway.
What have we learned?
Before you argue:
* If they can't see your listings or account they're not going to even ask about The Silk Road.
Stupid, stupid, stupid.
-
hmm it is a pretty good idea..
Only thing is if your at the stage were they are demanding you hand over your SR details its probably abit late... It would probably be more useful for vendors then buyers.
but then again, if little bit of evidance (or no evidance!) helps.
-
It is a good idea, and if the cops are asking you for the password
then you know they must be pretty stuck!!

Its not stupid, it would actually be very hard to prove that it was you who blocked the account and wiped it clean,
Im sure a defense lawyer could pull it apart saying it could be computer error, a glitch with the site or that
you have been banned by SR staff!!
Dont just hate, debate..

Think about this: If the LE is able to find SR and use it, they will also find the wiki and the forums, and they will know about the "kill account" password. The proposed feature wouldn't make much sense, in my opinion.

Who cares if they know you tricked them and erased it? It's gone which means no evidence. All they can get you for is obstruction of justice, and that could be a much better sentence then aiding a criminal organization or what other incriminating things you have done on the road. Especially if your a vendor. In the United States once you utilize usps, a government postal service, and cross state lines with a package you have a few felonies to account for. If there is no evidence then there is nothing to worry about other then what they already have gotten you for, you don't have to worry about them finding anything else.

After thinking about it, I don't think a universal password would work. Anybody could delete anybody's account just by knowing their username, the universal kill password, and correctly entering the captcha haha.

I'm not saying it is protected or isn't but I'd like proof of whichever one it is.
P.S. I love your signature, wretched. It made me laugh. I might just quote you on that ;)
+1 OP for the idea! I love it.

it would have to be different le are dumb but not that dumb if they kept getting the same password and they get nothing eventuality they would catch on or what if they had an account then they would know the kill password
-
AWesome awesome idea! In no way would there be a reason to not implement this, anyone trying to come up with ideas as to why this shouldnt be done is not thinking in programming terms lol
-
brilliant!
We'd have to be able to set a kill password...... if not someone could just type my name into SR login, with the default KILL PW. This would render my acct useless. So... maybe we should have to set our own Kill pw.... and not have a default Kill pw.... Im very impressed with this idea! Reminds me of the last time I was taken in and they insisted on me giving them the password to my phone. Needless to say, I suggested that the device could not be accessed itself, but must be connected to remotely (once the lockout was initiated). They bought it and even did me the solid of texting my phone the code to wipe it (in my case it was something like 'nonodonttouchmethere', which they thought was funny until my phone rebooted, completely wiped.
Needless to say, I did a hand-full of months.... but they never got the incriminating evidence on my phone (and got me labeled as a 'smart ass'). Great feature! I'd be surprised to see this option ignored.
+1 to you my friend (if and when I can do that)

I think that this is a rather decent proposal. The kill password would most certainly need to be self-assigned. I think, rather than logging in to a blank account, the account should be effectively wiped from the server. This might be a lot more advantageous in whatever dire scenario would merit it.
It certainly couldn't hurt, and wouldn't take much effort to implement. Currently, I'd imagine that DPR & Co. have their plates full, but perhaps sometime soon. Not sure how many of these requests get attention from the mods/staff anyhow.
-
Great idea, after this much initial support from the community the very least we could do is run it by DPR and co.
Maybe there are underlying cons but this could be yet another weapon for us in the fight against LE.
FTP FTG long live DPR SR and this community!
+1 Karma as well

Im posting just to get closer get closer to 100 posts and give you karma!!

good idea
-
Epic Idea, I hope DPR sees this
-
I really think this is a slick idea, but after implementation...
What happens to the account? Is it gone forever? Shut down afterwords? Or should it be like 'shadowbanned', ie you cans till send out messages and make orders but they never show up in anyone elses inboxs/order queues. That way the law enforcement can play around on the account and see if they can 'use' you account but they go nowhere!
-
I love this idea... +1
-
+1 Awesome idea.
The only downside I can see is if someone was attacking your account to hack in, and managed to guess the removal password.
You'd log in one day and everything would be gone... people accuse DPR of enough shady stuff without accounts spontaneously disappearing. ;)
Small price to pay to burn evidence though - use strong passwords folks!
-
Just came across this. Fucking awesome idea, man! The ONLY downside I see here is.. the human error. What if you're drunk or high or in a hurry and login with password#2 by mistake? That could be no bueno...
-
I reckon this is crucial. Doesn't matter if the pigs know about it, it's still an awesome extra layer of defense.
As for any accidental fuckups, SR is for grownups. I can't say it more clearly than that aye?

Right on. Truecrypt has the same protection - two passwords. One to the outer layer, and one to the hidden inner layer.

+1 for the comment and +1 for the idea.
It is an extreme measure but you can never be too careful.
-
This is certainly the best idea I've seen in the Requests board. Great work OP, hope DPR sees this and considers implementation onto the site. Great security measure.
-

unique pw - think about it, shoul there be a global pw - i just have to know your acc - type it in - use the global kill pw - deleted...
so i prefer a unique one ;-)
-
if they are clever enough to get the first password what makes you think they could not gain access to the second password.
-
if they are clever enough to get the first password what makes you think they could not gain access to the second password.
The idea is that they don't have any passwords and are interrogating you for one. You give them password #2, which when used, wipes your account clean.
-
if they make an arrest and show their hand by mentioning your SR dealings then they already have enougb to get a conviction. at least they think they do. the feds or cops dont barter with tbe people they want. if they tip their hand they got all the ijformation they need already. USUALLY. there are always exceptions of cohrse
-
oh damn +1....Hands down one of THEE best ideas Ive heard on here. Is this possible DPR?
-
brilliant idea.
The only problem i see with it is if some asshole got a hold of your password , by either hacking a lower security site or by any other means. Your whole account would be fucked. But the actual idea of it all is genius. I wouldn't be surprised if they implemented this. What were you smokin to come up with this mate ;D
-
I'd like for it to be possible to retrieve all the information. So either it only deletes all the info making it look like a brand new account (messages, settings, orders, etc.) but the account is still usable. Then after waiting say at least 2 weeks, there's a way to get everything back.
-
yeah its a good idea. but its probably just as easy to create another account just for emergencies - i have an account i've used once to buy a tiny bit of hash, if i ever get rolled i'll give them those account details instead of the one that has thousands of pounds worth of cocaine purchases.
if the authorities are onto you about SR it's best to give them a little rather than fuck all in my opinion - they log into an empty account they are gonna assume you've set it up just for emergencies
-
brilliant

I see where you are coming from, but that is still giving them evidence that they otherwise wouldn't have.
You could still get done for that. I dunno... there are pro's and con's to giving an empty account and one with a tiny bit of hash.
-
i just think if they ask you about SR they know you're using/have used it, otherwise why would it come up? so give them the smallest thing they can bust you on and you'll get a slap on the wrist rather than a stretch. if it's an empty account they're more than likely gonna call bullshit and you're stuck at the beginning again
just my opinion, being in the UK it would just be a slap on the wrist, can't speak for other countries
-
Brilliant idea, +1
-
Like the idea
-
Awesome Idea, I dont think I can +1 ya yet =( But just an idea on the whole information side of it or whatever, I dont think It would be too tedious to code this in a way where when you logon with the second password, A different(most likely blank) transaction history is displayed, newly created bitcoin address, while the bc's from the regular login are transfered to your backup address which you predetermine, and then the whole "shadow account" thing where messaging works fine, but when a purchase is made, the bitcoins get "stolen" essentialy and sent directly to the vendor, while seeming to be in escrow, and the purchase is not given to the vendor, but these purchases could also be added to the empty transactions list and be saved for the 2nd pass login. Awesome Ideas!!
-
This would be perfect for compromised accounts also. A secondary password that can freeze/kill your account in case of phishing/hack.
-
This has already come up a few times and it is a nice idea but pointless really. You are protected from revealing passwords. Also, at least on a buyers side, SR doesn't store anything incriminating, records are removed as orders are completed. The real key is just refuse to answer any questions, period. Your lawyer should be the only person to ever interact with leo. Everything you say, every question they ask is designed to have you incriminate yourself. Keep your mouth shut and let a professional handle it.
-
I really like this idea.
Some people might also have a trusted person who in this scenario could easily kill the SR account the second the police takes you in. At the time they interrogate you, your account doesn't even exist anymore and that WILL make it very hard to prove that you did something on SR, when the account disappeared while you were detained and hadn't access to the internet and didn't even call someone besides your lawyer.
Anyways, there isn't really a downside as this could be just an option so you don't have to use it, if you don't like it.
I think it would be great.
-
I agree with the
This would be perfect for compromised accounts also. A secondary password that can freeze/kill your account in case of phishing/hack.
however I dont agree with kill account to give to LEO.
Why? Because by associating alone! yourself with SR or criminal shit in general ruins your character in a court of law. Thus you really dont know want to let know LEO of your dealings on SR or whatever, even if they can make a connection between yourself and SR, its in your best interest to deny it also.
No connection, no nothing!
I truly believe silence is a virtue, and it will shine light at the other end of a potential long tunnel :)
Anyone else agree with me?
Cheers
-
this is an amazing idea! id feel alot safer if that were to happen
